AfriMETRO Holiday Gala: Help Raise Funds for the Global Literacy Project

The Afrimetro Holiday Gala, organised by the NYU Wagner Students Alliance for Africa, will be celebrating some distinguished Africans and a friend of Africa this week. Here’s a great event and opportunity to interact with a dynamic group of professionals. The evening’s festivities which will include an award ceremony, live entertainment, dinner, auction of Arik Air airline tickets, silent auction of numerous items, fashion show, dancing and much more, are geared towards:

(i) celebrating the “Rise of Africa – The Golden Jubilee Year” (17 African nations celebrated their 50th independence anniversary in 2010) and AfriMETRO’s progress in advancing its mission
(ii) recognizing the achievements of the award recipients (see below for who they are),
(iii) conferring scholarship awards on deserving high school and college students, and
(iv) raising funds for the AfriMETRO scholarship program and the Global Literacy Project (www.glpinc.org).

Billed to be hosted by Ngoli Onyeka Okafor, No. 1 Male Supermodel, the Gala has an amazing line up of special guests including:

Immacule Ilibigaza – Bestselling author, humanitarian and survivor of the Rwandan genocide
Gbenga Akinnagbe – Accomplished actor best known for his role on the popular HBO series “The Wire”
Tayo Okusanya – Managing Director at Jefferies & Company, a securities and investment banking firm
Bruce Charash – Founder of Doc to Dock, a charitable organization that collects unused medical supplies and delivers them to countries in need
Dr. Chika Onyeani – Publisher, founder and editor-in-chief of the African SunTimes newspaper.

Also to grace the occasion are Her Excellency, Ambassador Joy Ogwu, Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, (former Nigerian Foreign Minister and Director-General of the NIIA and Hon. Ibrahim Auwalu, The Consul-General of Nigeria, New York .
