Am I the only one that finds Tiwa’s overt sexuality so.. well.. uncomfortable?
She’s one of the few Nigerian performers that can actually sing her heart out but I this song is so-so. And the person that did the picture no try o! photoshop on crack! lol

    • El Bee

      December 6, 2011 at 2:50 am

Not just you o. I mean the babe is very talented but all the extra sexualization is unnecessary.

    • nephetiti

      December 6, 2011 at 3:46 am

asin, i so agree. i like her and i think she’s very talented, but the oversexualisation ( is that een a word? haha) is a tad unecessary.

      na real photoshop on crack!

    • falalala

      December 6, 2011 at 7:00 am

      I agree.

And she keeps talking about doing Missionary work.s

Asa and Nneka are the only musicians I can take seriously. Tiwa is ridiculously talented but all these sex selling stuff just adds fuel to the image of women being degraded in the industry. I am waiting to hear a ballad.

See the picture. Don Jazzy in t-shirt, she in lingerie. She’s a singer not a VS model.

And I do not condone beyonce or Rihanna either before someone starts a Naija self-hate rant.

People need to get notes from Adele.

    • majo

      December 6, 2011 at 7:58 pm

exactly. she ends up looking like she’s there for his pleasure. does she feel that inadequate? NO ONE has seen ASA looking like that and ASA is internationally renown. i’m tired of people thinking sex sells. that’s cliche. kai . Tiwa is better than this.

Can I like your comment? Bella Naija you finally added social media share to your posts (thank you) but you left the like button for comments out..

LOL @ photoshop on crack! As in, the barbie effect is too much. And as for the overt sexuality…i’m so beyond lost as well. What exactly is she trying to be? Well, time will tell.

this girl has suddenly become the most powerful and most sort after female artist in nigeria….
her lyrics shows a lot of maturity

i am sorry most of you will not feel the song with your small computer speakers..

i am using my ear phone that i bought N3,000 …….and i can tell you if you hear the real drum sound of this music many of you will go gaga…..or if you download it and blast it on your CD…then you will know what i am talking about…

i have noticed that with the small computer spakers you will hardly know which song is powerful…..

i loooooooooooooove the chorus…..*no way ahaha no way ha*…donjazzy part dey mad random sha..:)

  7. nich

    December 6, 2011 at 3:06 am

the background sound sound that follows the chorus would make so many cry…

on her constant provocative appearance…i think many are following her singing power than her appearance……she is also an american and uk brought….those who have lived abroad for quite sometime sometimes overlook what those that live in nigeria care about…

the same thing with Goldie…..those of them who have widely travelled would not accept the full nija conservative life style whether is acceptable or not…

tiwa would still keep getting to the top because she is really a great talent…

waje and omawumi cannot dress like this why…they are home grown….mind you goldie and tiwa are still living half of there lives abroad……
nigerians watch rihana, beyonce and they are excited….they watch the videos at home…but when it comes to a nija girl hell lets loose cos she is nija….b4 nija music came almost all nigerians have embraced american artist…
all i can say is that talent is powerful

      December 6, 2011 at 9:19 am

very true. its cos they r Naijarians but she shouldnt also forget that our culture counts even if we embrace western style, we wudnt let our culture suck or b in d mud. what will d next generation meet. as much as the westerners preserve their culture, y shudnt we do the same. its just ridiculous what civilization has done to our generation. So i feel if she wants to portray herself as a Nigerian she shud and not as a westerner but if she must portray herself as a westerner then she shud as well change her name her nationality and den we knw we r dealin wit a westy.

    • Emy

      December 6, 2011 at 2:34 pm

Why dont you type in your local language and use a nigerian computer so we know we’re dealing with a nigerian. why dont you preserve your local language. you seem not to know that original africans were naked and didnt wear clothes until the west brought you guys clothes now ur claiming it as your culture. fucking hypocrite.

      December 6, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I love Goldie. Omawunmi is just … to love. Tiwa I don’t get yet, but men get her. Take a poll, men love her, women don’t, and we were debating why the other day. Are we just jealous?
I like her body best in this photo sha, at least now I know. Better than all that “suggestive” stuff, but I think men like that.
Ah, but I dig Goldie. She’s got so much theatre going on that she doesn’t even need to sing (though she could use some great songs).

    • Tosin

      December 6, 2011 at 9:53 pm

I just listened, I really hated it. Maybe it’s my cheap laptop speakers, but I had to kill the music halfway, it was noisy and irritating. I keep wondering, am I a hater, or do I just hate the work objectively. e.g. Most Beyonce (especially the early days, Destiny’s Child) was HORRIFIC, I’m almost crying now thinking about it. Even though Beyonce is a solid brand and a fine, demure canvas of an entertainer, and she has power to be doing concerts and all. Then by chance too, some of her stuff is good, with some artistry to speak of. I don’t think I was being a hater, I think Beyonce was selling a lot of crap successfully.
This song too may sell, but dang, it was not good at all.

    December 6, 2011 at 3:30 am

@ Abiola and co: I guess you don’t know that “overt sexuality” is not meant to make us comfortable. Clearly she’s getting to you in some kind of deep way that even you yourself do not understand. Don’t panic. That’s the idea. Lesson: Let’s stop worrying Tiwa joor. If she’s not talented and smart and well-put-together I’ll say okay. But the girl is trying, working hard. Free her. BTW, I like the song.

    December 6, 2011 at 4:39 am

It’s an okay song. Think its one of those songs that grow on you…sexuality goes with r n b which is what she does. She’d look silly all “ghettod” up and singing the way she does. Love her always…

D song iz ok, tiwa’z part wz ok bt d transition to “baby baby, nids a smoother leap”… d beat iz ayt….bt don rily lyk Don Jazzy’z part, nt clear n doesnt sound dt gud… a clear n propa remake of d song shud b done… possibly wit a diff collabo thts sounds clear. Love d “don leave with my heart” part, sounds rily good.

Don Jazzy should not have been on this track. General Pype or Rymzo would have done better job on this dancehall beat. The song is just average.

*sigh*if i said it before i’ve said it a hundred times: Tiwa savage has absolutely no originality, what with imitating beyonce/ rihanna/ kelly to the T. damn shame cos she has a beautiful voice. Find your own signature ma and it shall be well. That’s the advantage people like asa, ayo, nnneka etc have.

I know some stans are going to start throwing the word “hate” all over the place. so kiss my black hand:) in advance. thanks;p

PEOPLE IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED THAT TIWA SAVAGE IS NAIJA’S RIHANNA!! O well i have always called don jazzy the Jayz of naija(‘fine’ looks n top music producer).
May be we’ve got anoda beyonce n Jay z coming up(wink*)we never can tell.

As for the song at first listening….quite a complicated rhythm but lovely/romantic chorus….lovely….btw is it only me but Don jazzy seems to have this yorubatic appeal!!!

  46. pearl

    December 6, 2011 at 12:31 pm

She must really love brick & lace’s love is wicked. Cos this sure sounds lyk an undertone to it. And I can’t stop thinking of lumidee’s oh oh. I wonder why or is it beyonce’s get me bodied? Well wotever it is Tiwa savage must av been gud with wrtting essays in uni. Her research work is so on point. So long as she referenced. She makes an A student. I only listened to it once, & I spotted all of dat? Thumbs up savage way to go girl. U’ll go far ure obviously d only one taking d gud advice of working smarter and not harder.

  47. bcgeorge

    December 6, 2011 at 1:06 pm

Nothing sells like controversies. I love all the rants from twitter to BN to FB to 360nobs, even some female OAPs of a popular urban radio station might take it to the radio soon, if their tweets are anything to go by.
I’m a big fan of Tiwa [even with all her flaws in terms of over-doing it with her sex appeal] and of course lack of originality on this “particular song”, but when I remember she sang “head to my heart & middle passage, kele-kele and love me love me’, I know she’s an abundant of talent and the most consistent female artiste in recent times who deserves nothing but our collective constructive criticisms as sensitive consumers of good music.
Nigerians, most of us are hypocrites, what we loathe in public, we embrace in the closet and I love all the self-righteous indignation still seeping from the pores of these girls herein, (Ladies of the night have a better reputation than some of them) hiding behind their computers and phones to vent their frustration and spill bile of hatred at the slightest opportunity. If you opined that Tiwa shows too much skin and have no such condemnation for American female artistes, YOU WILL GO TO HELL, maybe without fire. Standard!
Tiwa doesn’t pay my bills, so I’m not her advocate but if judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree; please don’t forget to judge a monkey on its ability to swim as well.

Hmm, I think Tiwa just keeps pushing the boundaries with all the indecent exposure. I kinda think she loves the controversy; I guess any publicity is good publicity. Please take a cue from Nneka and Asa let your talent speak for you and be original. You’ve got a great voice, be wise cos with all the indecent exposure, people will get tired of it pretty soon.

  58. nich

    December 6, 2011 at 4:20 pm

tega…..u are right but i was not comparing her to omawumi and waje on vocal powers but rather i was talking about influence based on her background………this lady tiwa worked fully with american hip hop artist…….monica..brandy…mary j blige and the rest…..
she is the rave of the moment not cos of her dressing but talent……
as much as i do not like her dressing…..this is the brand that she has chosen to potray…..and she has been smiling huge to the bank…… it working for her?

entertainers build their brand and sometimes it works for them and sometimes it doesn’t work…..look at the movie industry and take tonto dike for example and ghana’s martha ankomar…….
and today their brands are stuck with them and they are almost at the top performing at their best……..most times entertainers care less about peoples views as long as they have built their fan base

This is a really REALLY nice song . and if anyone thinks otherwise , then they’re just hating . It shows she put in a LOT of effort into the song . as for the sexuality bit , I see nothing wrong with what she’s wearing or singing . There are many sexual Nigerian songs worse than this so I don’t know why this is a big deal .and no , she is not “naked” . It is quite obvious 🙂 . And as for the comparison with Rihanna/Beyonce , cut that out . She’s a talented individual . Face it . I agree COMPLETELY with what bcgeorge said , ” …our collective constructive criticisms as sensitive consumers of good music.
Nigerians, most of us are hypocrites, what we loathe in public, we embrace in the closet” .

I like the song… but I find myself torn between the “them & us” mentality. She is just as talented as Rhi and Bey… but as she is one of us and she is marketing herself to us, she should appeal to our “sensibilities” and tone down the sexuality a little. Im not saying cover up completely… or be like other “home grown” artists.. but surely there’s some middle ground? But then… perhaps what I see IS her middle ground; and she’s trying? Im just gonna focus on the song….. I like it!! 2 exclamation marks.

great song. great talent display from the two artist.but, the combination of both artist did not really hit it 100% 4 me. i think a tiwa banky w thang wuld hv been aight.i think we should all focus more on tiwa,s lyrical dexterity and flow of words in true r n b form rather than her appearance.

Tiwaaaaaaaaaa! Don Jazzy killed it too. As for the clothes, I’ll love you even more if you cover up a little biko. I’m still a hugeeeeeeeee fan of your talent, no doubt 🙂

Tiwa is okay,am not too sure about the over emphasis on her talent like i have read so far. She’s goot a good voice too but me thinks evryone has his or her own talent. However, she’s prolly the new babe on the block hence the focus on her for now.To me,Talent is very very complex and versatile and it doesn’t only lie within having a good voice when defining it(Talent) musically!I hope she doesn’t bore us soon. However,as regards her background and who she may have worked with in the past,I personally haven’t really seen that difference btwn her and the home grown female artists.I wld call Omawunmi a better performer, much more swagged up and more intriguing of which Omawunmi deffo has a fantastic voice too.Anywhoooo, this babe Tiwa is okay overall tho’ she can always be better!!!(My opinion)…….!

@ NICH please let me know when you buy Dre Beats headphones …about N3000 – #HAVE A SEAT – ABEG – also TIWA you are undoubtedly a talented singer on any level national or international but please put CLOTHES on…I’m not prudish or old seriously this is too much.

I don’t even get why everyone is crying about her clothes. You can’t even see any “essential” body parts. Boobs are covered and she’s wearing a pata. What is it biko?
That said, I might have to re-listen to the song. It seemed all over the place to me, like a mishmash and I wasn’t quite sure if it was the entire song.

    OK…. this is my take..

People say Tiwa has lived abroad and she widely exposed to western culture that is why she dresses NUDE… I beg to differ. abroad or no abroad if your mindset is set in a particular way it will reveal itself eventually. There are singers are abroad that do not sell sex and some do.

FACT is: There is a market for her and YES SEX appeals to that market and this all about strategy. As long as boys, men, etc are drooling over the pic and young girls are aspiring to be like HER. SHE WILL KEEP Selling.

We live in a world where everything is all about VANITY, so admittedly we can complain and mourn (she has a strategy).

This is the MUSIC industry this what some people do.

All I can say is everything is MOVING so FAST I hope she is accountable to her actions.

    BN publish my comment.

Having said that Seeing BABES doing Beyounce or copying them is so predictable and BORING.

The song I guess it grows on u…….
I am sure next time I see her I wont be shocked. Although, I thought she said she wanted to inspire young girls to follow their dreams (the interview on BN). If this is following your dreams. I CANT QUESTION UR MOTIVES…..

are we commenting on the SONG or on the PICTURE?..cos i can bet my plate of akara that most people here, didn’t listen to the song before commenting..some of you just saw the pic and started commenting, others are just following the crowd..

on the SONG: tiwa NAILED IT..especially the part were she was kinda fast..i also liked don jazzy’s part, though if he sang for a shorter period, it would have been better..
you cant deny tiwa’s talent, she came in hard on this song..weldone Tiwa..

oh let me say this: tiwa has done very well for her self in a short time, and i commend her for that..recently there is hardly any show, that she is not performing..
Dear Tiwa, take the constructive criticism and continue to build and define your brand.waiting for more songs.

artist in the states do not dress naked and tiwa is not dressed naked in that sense…..christina agulera and the rest of them dress like this……
most of you believe that this is market strategy but i can tell you that it is not…..i believe that it is more of influence… may also need to know that the music industry in the states and the one in europe is not the same…..

    December 7, 2011 at 8:52 am

Tiwa why now? U can sing no doubt, but your fashion sense is a definite NO for me. What i can’t seem to understand is why you think you have to be almost naked to be sexy. Pssst!!!! Take a cue from Genevieve dear, she’s always effortlessly sexy without baring skin. Gbam!

@nich, re u trying 2 support their style of dressing? Asa is also london based but she has gud sense of dressing & her music send messages 2 all. so provocative dressing only makes tiwa patterned after d likes of beyonce & rihanna which is nt welcomed in our societal values.

Nigerians constructive criticism differs from stupid judgemental nonsense. This song sounds better than what most Nigerian artists will sing in 10yrs. This beat has been used by a lot of people.before and after lumidee and every smart producer has modified it to suite his/her style.this is just lyk calling Kwaito Music copied cos the undertone is the same. And bout tiwa’s “exposure” u can take the girls in Dbanj’s video but not Tiwa’s d clothes in her video remind of some pieces Deola Sagoes Teenage daughters showcased in their label. Maybe you all live in another Nigeria but my dear, we now wear bikinis @ d pool ad really short shorts to d mall. Tiwa is a breath of fresh air in d industry abeg. Nneka’s music depresses me and Nigerians dnt look dirty like she portrays. I am listening to this song on repeat in the wee hours of the morning! That should tell you something!!!

You have a great body and there is scope for you in the soft porn industry. Nothing wrong in criticism as far as I know, so no need 4 the hug transformers comments because they are Tiwa Stans. Tiwa take positives from the ones u need and dump the ones you dont need> Whether u like it or not, the public will always play a part in someone becoming successful/being an Icon. I love you voice, I like your songs, I admire your drive. But Please hanging with the MO HITS boys will do nothing 4 your career other than portray u as a sex symbol to the advantage of MO HITS and not you. Dont mortgage the coins you will get now for the big bucks that will roll in if you have your identity. Yes you can do collabo’s…no issues with that. Just be careful how you come out, image, dressing and perception. Good luck Tiwa.
Lastly to all saying its nioce to strip to seel records….Remember Beyonce had her own image b4 she started to hang with JayZ and showed more flesh. B was a star b4 she met Jay Z
Keep it nice and cool babe. All the best Tiwa. Back to the studio we are waiting 4 that BIG Album…

if tiwa featured a more sex sellable guy on this song, maybe a Lynxxx or sum1 who can run with the idea of this song it wld sell alot better for me, i think don jazzy on it is just a profile move cos he didnt really do it for me!! Lynxxx in the cover and on the song wld hv sold the SEX part of the song effortlessly!

kai people!! Dont we just love the anonymity platforms like BN give us? All we need to do is sit behind a computer, type all d iish n eesh on our minds, add a random name and hit post!

I have often heard from renowned performers that when they are on stage n all, they assume a different character n personality from who they are in reality. Tiwa’s on stage/album cover ‘oversensual’ personality is one of those. cos she as down to earth n’ covered up’ as can be when she’s doing her everyday thing.

finally, there are two ways to look at it – hate her or love her, she’ll still be TIWA ! the gorgeous girl with a powerful voice! n as for me? i check the love button!

am so shocked by comments from listeners or wannabe critics that tiwa savage displays oversexuality overtly. first off, i am bemused by the fact so many Nigerians still want to hide sex in a nation rife with promiscuity, polygamy and 68888 kids per household. How about we all admit we have sex, tiwa savage IS sexy and anyone who isn’t getting some, well don’t look at the pictures, don’t listen to the music, don’t watch the videos in fact gauge your eyes out they’re causing you to sin. yes i said it, i said it in nigeria i said it.
