The Future Awards Symposium for Young & Emerging Leaders Postponed Due to National Labour Strike

The Central Working Committee (CWC) of Nigeria Symposium for Young & Emerging Leaders has announced the postponement of the Symposium – it will no longer hold on 11 and 12 January 2012.

The postponement is due to the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to protest the recent removal of fuel subsidy, as the protest is scheduled to begin on January 9, which is just two days to the symposium.

“While we hope this matter is quickly resolved in a manner that is acceptable to the Nigerian people, we think in fact that this moment in our national life is very instructive as it speaks directly to the questions that this symposium seeks to answer,” says Chude Jideonwo, Executive Director of The Future Project. “It will give some clarity and urgency to the issues that we are addressing, giving us a useful case study for a new generation of leaders.”

The Symposium will still hold in the first quarter of 2012, and the new date will be announced shortly.

I look forward to this important and impactful conversation with the new generation of Nigerian leaders; it is now an imperative” said Obiageli Ezekwesili, the World Bank Vice-President for Africa, who is the Headline Speaker.
