Nigeria Looks On Helplessly as Boko Haram Again Claims Responsibility for Bombings in Kaduna

It’s really sad how time and time again, innocent people are attacked and killed brutally and after every attack, the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram claims responsibility, rejoicing about the killings and the government, the people and security forces just look on helplessly. It has happened one too many times.

The blood bath in Kaduna state on Sunday 17th June, 2012 where about five bombs went off in the state killing over 60 people is no exception. Yes, the government declared a curfew in the state, yes, there might be plans to declare a state of emergency in the state, but they haven’t shown any real progress in tackling the sect which is taking the lives of innocent people daily.

Boko Haram has again claimed responsibility for the bombings in Kaduna which targeted mostly children and women.

The sect spokesperson Abu Qaqa said the current massacre of Christians was done to avenge the past killings of Muslims and desecration of Mosques in Zonkwa, Yelwan Shendam, Tafawa Balewa, where they said Mosques were turned into brothels and drinking joints, while Christians continue to carry on with impunity and government support.

The statement also claims that Christians must all convert to Islam in order to have peace.

Abu Qaqa started the statement by saying, “Today Almighty Allah has given us victory against Christian Churches in Kaduna and Zaria which led to the deaths of many Christians and security operatives.”

The statement also said that Allah has tasked all Muslims in Quran chapter 9 verse 29 to launch a attack against Jews and Christians who refused to believe in him, his messenger, Prophet Mohammed.

It also said that attacks against Christian children and women will continue, since security personnel now attack their women and children.

The statement concluded that residents of Maiduguri, Borno State are suffering because they did not support the sect when federal forces waged war against them in 2009, accordingly, the sect wants Kano residents to examine and change their ways towards them.

Meanwhile, a new pan-Yoruba group, Apapo Oodua Koya, (AOKOYA) has warned that it has “trusted” information that Boko Haram, the dreaded extremist Islamic group, is likely to attack Lagos and Ibadan in the next few days or in the month of July. The group’s warning is already stirring up tension in the south.

Now, this is really sad. When people are fleeing the North to take refuge in the South, there are rumours that the South would be attacked.

However, I think that the Federal Government should stop treating this group with kids’ gloves, thinking their activities are only limited to the Northern states and not other parts of the country. Their deadly abilities have been grossly underestimated in the past and the Government must begin to take things more seriously and see it as a national problem.
