BN Style Sighting: Thandie Newton in Jewel by Lisa at the Hope Rising Benefit Concert in Toronto

Last week, British actress Thandie Newton attended the Hope Rising Concert in Toronto. The event was in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Stephen Lewis is a former international diplomat and the mission of the foundation “works with community based organizations in Africa to support women, orphaned children, grandmothers who look after orphaned grandchildren and other groups of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Award-winning actress Thandie wore a jumpsuit by Nigerian label Jewel by Lisa. A few months ago, the actress was in Nigeria filming “Half of a Yellow Sun” and dropped by the JBL store in Lagos. The rest is fashion history….
Love this look. She paired the dress with Anouk – the silver pointy toed pumps by Jimmy Choo.

The good thing about ‘reproductions’ (aka fakes) is that most of us can spot them and they just make the wearer look like a wanna be.

Or someone who loves the designers work but just can’t afford it right now. Are we going to call people out when they wear, Zara, Mango et al. Their business is made from knocking off the catwalk. unfortunately we don’t have a Nigerian equivalent who makes these things accessible, so people go to tailors.
I agree that someone who makes it and lies, is pretty sketchy, but copying is not a problem because if the designer has added appropriate value it will only ever be a look alike. Besides any smart designer knows that being knocked off is an indication of your brands desirability.

Yes, because JBL holds the patent for ankara jumpsuits *rolls eyes* ‘Fakes’ indeed. She pulled the design out of the heavens did she? Didn’t get inspiration from anyone else? I hope all these designers have after-sale service. Given how much their outfits cost, it’s only fair. Feel free to patronise them but stop disturbing people who like to live according to their means.

I love this look and I love Lisa’s designs! This look was perfect for the event and it fit Thandie’s style philosophy: keeping the attention to one thing – the beautiful sequin jumpsuit! I hope Thandie wear’s more African designers- the designs are so refreshing!

    JBL preggers yaay!

  • wise fool November 13, 2012 at 11:25 am

They have started again. First it was Funke Akindele, now JBL. Could you people just stop with the whole *spot the pregnant woman game* and find something more productive to do with your lives?
