Earlier this month, BellaNaija Events brought you the first photos from the unveiling of Tosan Jemide of Cakes by Tosan‘s “The Tallest Cake in Africa” project which took place at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos on Thursday 16th May 2013.

Now it’s time to check out all the exclusive official behind the scenes photos as well as shots of guests at the event.

The 28ft cake was unveiled at the ceremony attended by celebrities, members of the media, government dignitaries, partners and friends of the Nigerian sugar craft cakes maestro.

The event which was planned and coordinated by No Surprises Event Architects took place from Thursday 16th May 2013 to Sunday 19th May 2013, saw hundreds of people walk in everyday to see the much publicized creation. The Cakes by Tosan team was present to engage with the crowd and explain the creative process that went into crafting the cake.

The pulling down of the cake party was a star studded affair as celebs such as Waje, Lami Phillips and IK Osakioduwa as well as Mo Abudu, Lanre Olushola and Tara Fela-Durotoye were in attendance. The yummy creation was served to all.

The rest of the cake will be donated to orphanages and other charity organization in Lagos state to commemorate the children’s day celebrations.

one person with passion is better than 40 persons merely interested. I am very glad that Tosan is chasing his passion. He makes attractive and interesting wedding cakes. May God bless him more and more.

Weldone Tosan! Great job on the creativity and passion.Looks like it was a fun event 🙂

However, Tosan, if you’re by any chance reading this, can you ensure that next time you want to embark on such a project, you set an example to others regarding health and safety? I was shocked to see the guys at work at such heights with no harness or any other form of protective equipment. Thank God nothing untoward happened but if something HAD happened to one of these guys, the whole “tallest cake” show would have been marred.

How cool would it have been if you’d used this opportunity to set the pace for safe working practices?

My thoughts exactly. I kept thinking that as I looked through the pictures of the cake being set up. Great job on the cake though. From the pictures it looks like you all had a great time.

Also, were all those who were handling the cake wearing Gloves? If the cake is expected to be eaten then one should endeavor to make sure that in such an environment all those who come in contact with the cake are covered up accordingly such as wearing the right Gloves. Let’s also use this opportunity to set the right example…

Awesome job and initiative; especially with being socially conscious and giving back to the community. I do agree with Bleed blue, I kept wondering why no protection (fall protection) measures were used by the men assembling the cake. Also it appears no gloves were used n handling the cake assembly process. It’s important we cover all or most aspect especially on such a wonderful endeavor as this so that the objective is not taken away by a mishap!

I do stress though that this was a beautiful idea and project!

My Thoughts exactly safety should have been priority for this kind of project just one little slip up would have been disastrous

@Bleed Blue. Nice piece of safety advice! I perceive u to be a safety specialist! How come u know about safety harness and PPE’S? You must be in the same line of biz as i am. Have u heard of the “12 Life Saving Rules?”

I think most people who work in safety conscious organizations have become familiar with certain HSE rules regarding working at heights and using PPEs, without being safety specialists themselves (it’s bad enough that I have to worry about being reported to HSE everything I need to use a stepladder in the office, while I’m wearing heels because I have to pull something out of the cupboards).

Also, I perceive @Bleed Blue to be a legal-beagle (yes, I’ve been playing Sherlock regarding who you might be, missy) 🙂

@ Denco Denco…Lol…I plead not guilty. I haven’t heard about the 12 rules…will check them out though. No harm in learning something new on a nice Friday such as this.

@ Mz Socially Awkward…I so know who you are too! With your yellow fine self…wink wink…And I’ve just been giving you corner eye in this granite jungle where dreams are made of. One day one day sha, all man go jam for road 🙂

Initially, I thought Tosan was doing it for the fame alone. But now I hear CSR. This is an example Nigerians need to emulate. God provides money for us to bless others, not just for us alone. That’s the key to greatness.
May God take him to greater heights than he could ever imagine.

Was there a reason why during the setup they could not wear gloves? It’s a beautiful cake but consider that others will be eating from it as well..

Nigeria sha!!! You made the tallest cake in Africa n yet see the size of cake you are serving guests. Why can’t we serve cake in saucers with forks like they do abroad or even on tv and stop this tray business? You may say its cus the birthday cakes etc r usually small in size but this guy made the tallest cake in Africa. Well,…..

      May 24, 2013 at 7:09 pm

I’m sure they served smaller pieces to guests attending the closing event so that there would be more cake to donate to the local charities.

Beautiful concept and a noble cause. I felt a bit disgusted though when I saw the cake being handled without gloves. The worst was the tray! Dear Tosan, this is not to slight your efforts, but to encourage you to make it a lot better when next you do this kind of stuff. Brilliant way to give back!

Tosan is in a class of his own. I say this with the confidence of a soaring eagle. A niche has been carved in this line of business already and I am happy it is a modest unassuming character like tosan. My respect for Tosan hit cloud 9 when I saw a post in that has him with all the cake masters world over… The Cake Boss guy on TLC was top on the post. God bless you Tosan Jemide and Crew.
