BN Do It Yourself: Sparkle & Shine on a Budget! Check out How to Make a Chic Sequin Top

Hello BellaNaijarians, hope you’ve had  a  great week!

By now you should know it’s no news that I love recycling all sorts of things and turning previously owned belongings of mine into something new and exciting, and today we are going to be doing just that. It’s time for BN Do It Yourself with me. Let’s get creative!

So it all began with the ‘sequin craze’ and my attraction to shiny & pretty things. I happened to come across this lovely sequin top by Hanni Y some time ago, and at the time it was retailing at $389 (N62,208) and I loved it so much that I decided to get it (and by that I mean make it).

So, today I am going to share how I created the top with all the amazing DIY gurus out there.

Here are the items we will need.

1. A black tank top. You can use any other colour you like.

2. Half a yard sequin fabric.

3. Measuring tape
4. Pins
5. Hand needles and thread
6. A pair of scissors
7. A Chalk for marking & outlining

Here is how I created the top.

Step 1: I used the marking/outlining chalk to outline the area I wanted covered with the sequins.

Step 2: I then measured the outlined section of the tank top and used the measurement to cut out the measurement of sequin fabric with my scissors.

Step 3: I then began sewing the sequin piece to the tank top from the bottom up. You should tack in reverse or upwards so that when you turn the sequin piece back upright, the stitches wouldn’t show at all.

Same goes for the neckline, shoulders and sides. Although you would have to fold the edges inside and secure them with pins before embarking on your tacking mission.

This is what the reverse side should look like.

Be sure to cut away any stray threads and clean the edges with a small scissors. This step isn’t necessary. And you’re done.

Voila!
