Banky W Replies Critic on Tiwa Savage’s Dubai Wedding

Tiwa Savage Traditional Wedding, Tee Billz, TJ Balogun, BellaNaija1-97

Banky W is sticking up for Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz.

The Nigerian R&B superstar who was Tee Billz’ best man at the traditional ceremony in November, is all for the couple having their fairytale white wedding in Dubai.

Banky W Replies Critic - April 2014 -

After posting an image of a pre-party flier on his official Instagram page @bankywellington, a commenter who was appalled that they didn’t choose a Nigerian city for the nuptials on Saturday 26th April 2014 at the Armani Hotel, Dubai, had a few choice words.

@afrikaetal said “Why Dubai all the time. Use the powerful platform you have to promote your home country instead of the hypocrisy of always running to other Countries. If you all invest the money into small businesses in Nigeria or Africa at lage, we too will have others running to us # proudly African #”

Banky W was quick to respond; stating that he is irritated by the comment and no one should have a say in location for their wedding.
“Such comments irritate me. We use the platforms we have to promote Nigeria all the time. We invest our money in Nigeria, You don’t know the number of kids we put through school with scholarships, the number of health care bills we pay for people…you don’t know the number of Nigerian companies we bank roll and float or the number of ideas we invest. It’s hard enough finding happiness in this world…

Two people should be able to celebrate it any way they fell like it!!! PLUS They already did their traditional wedding in Nigeria, they should be free to do whatever or go wherever they want for the white wedding. It;s THEIR wedding. Not a country’s…not a state’s…not mine…and certainly not yours. Leave them be. People all over the world get married, go on vacations or honeymoons, wherever they feel like it all over the world. Our ppl (people) should be allowed to do the same without being branded hypocrites. You and the high horse you rode in on should have several seats.

My goodness.”. he stated.

BellaNaijarians, over to you…

Banky definitely overreacted on this one. He should take several seats. The fan was just expressing an honest patriotic opinion as he’s entitled to, and there was nothing offensive in it. And banky the warrior started barking for nothing. Na wa o

      April 22, 2014 at 4:06 pm

@nini banky didn’t just bark for nothing the couple can have their wedding anywhere they wish to have it on this earth, what’s the lady’s head ache ,why should she brand them hypocrites, for what?is it because the so called celebs give then access to their pages, she deserves every insult, which I don’t think banky gave, he just gave a constructive response

    • anonymous

      April 22, 2014 at 4:08 pm

@nini, i do not think Banky over-reacted. the fan should keep his or her opinions to themselves. one doesn’t always need to open their mouths. are they funding Tee and Tiwa’s wedding? just because we have freedom of expression doesn’t mean every expression should be spoken abeg! how many investments has this fan made in Nigeria? narrow minded people just need to sit down and shut up!

Welldone Banky thumbs up for loyalty!….and yes if u feel the person is entitled to their opinion so is Banky W no double standards here…sebi the Internet has given many courage to run their mouths anonymously…let the games continue for all.

BOTH SIDES HAVE POINTS, BUT THE PATRIOTIC SIDE WINS – if Dubai had not developed their own country in the late 80’s and 90’s [and had continued to marvel about the US, we would not be hearing of them as we are now…and it would not have been an attractive location as it is today… we would still be thinking of US and UK!

frankly well said by Banky. Our celebrities can not and fix all of nigeria’ problems. And where u have your wedding is personal and has nothing to do with the country you’re born in or your fans.

I agree with Banky. Entertainers are not responsible for Nigeria’s problems, they are victims of terrible leadership just like every other Nigerian. Why should they be forced to do certain things just to ‘promote’ the country? I mean, can’t a sister have the wedding she desires? Why is it even anyone’s problem where any one chooses to have their wedding? That commenter really should take several seats!

Banky is probably defending Tiwa bcos of what he is likely to benefit and the fact they are business partners. Seriously, people can do their wedding anywhere but Banky should not be ranting about investments in Naija and the likes…He is definitely taking it personal. How many Talents has Banky picked from the streets and invest on? Shebi you ditch scales becos you think he cant blow like Wizzy? If Skales had all the money, will you ditch him? How is Niyola a better Artiste than scales? Guy chill o…Fans are intelligent too ok?

peter, this is a rare occurance for me, i dont post comment but i guess your comment calls for it, Banky is a citizen just as you are, he is not the president, neither is he the saviour for nigeria, if you dont know he put his life and carreer on hold to promote wizkidn and as clearly stated does more than you are informed, he is only one person, as for skales the entertainer industry is a business, you peter! can you keep investing money where you are not getting any returns? Stop being a fool, coming here to chat gibberish, i beg your pardon, did you say you were intelligent? i beg to defer! im out, clearly not on my intellectual standard.

  18. Naveah

    April 22, 2014 at 4:30 pm

I see both sides even though I will say I tend to side with Afrikaetal more so than Banky who could have made his point without listing all the “they” have done for people in Nigeria after all to whom much is given, much is expected. He could have left it at people have a right to have their wedding where they chose to have it after all it is their day and all about them for one moment in time. All that other one was unnecessary braggadocio and who is all this “we” sef? Please!

I am waiting for the day an Emirati would have their wedding in Nigeria too. Our problem in general in Nigeria is that we do not think WE ARE ENOUGH so we always feel a need to go outside of ourselves for validation. How would people know you have money if you don’t have your wedding in Seychelles? We are perpetually in a state of competition with one another. Someone took their wedding pictures at the Great Wall of China then me too I go take my own underwater. Are we not tired? Na wa o!

    • slice

      April 22, 2014 at 5:09 pm

but american celebs have their weddings abroad all the time and u definitely don’t think that’s cause they don’t believe in america. sometimes you just want some place dreamy and it’s not Tiwa’s fault that locations in dubai look more fairy tale like than Naija. just saying

    • Noni

      April 23, 2014 at 1:17 am

Why are we (as Nigerians) so insecure about our country that the slightest thing is seen as an affront to the country? Them having their wedding in Dubai in no way implied that they don’t think Nigeria is “enough”, that’s just reaching. Like Slice has said, if an American celebrity chose to have their wedding in Dubai, the thought that it’s because they’re “seeking outside validation” wouldn’t cross anyone’s mind. Maybe instead of trying to tie people to Nigeria we should try to be less defensive.

If American Hollywood stars had their wedding in Brazil, Kenya or even one hidden island their American fans will be happy for them as they see the beautiful wedding pictures. but its only in Nigeria that u will be beefing a star for having their wedding outside the country.

Nigerians and their patriotism can be very annoying at times. Abeg Jo, the country is not even worth showing off or be so loyal to like that. However, I understand the person’s opinion and also BAnky W’s response. If Nigeria wasn’t in so much shambles, people will not be so concerned whether u are investing in ur country or now. This is a wedding, and it’s a couples time to do whatever their fantasy fairy tale is and play it out. Dubai, is a beautiful country so why not. Now the economic struggles and challenges is the government’s responsibility. As an individual, you can only contribute in ur own way to help out.

If spending it in Dubai on a yacht and posting the pictures all over the blogs to show how blessed they are is what makes them feel good….Yayyyyyy for them. It wont make Nigeria any less blessed or resolve our current issues. PS: afrikaetal is enticed to his opinion and Banky should have ignored it as opposed to carrying the matter emotionally. nigerians oh nigerians!!! hmmmmm…. so when the minister for education send his kids to school abroad we fold our head and stare. Look the person commenting is just saying as a celebrity u have a certain level of power and it would be nice if you use it ( although he didnt put it nicely). But on a serious note.. do you guys know how much power celebrites and pastors hold… (Fela)

How many of you have best friends and how many of you will stand down when someone you care about is (you feel) being unfairly attacked or provoked. Tiwa and T Bills are firstly human beings before being celebs. They want the same thing we all are trying to achieve, success, love and happiness and hopefully do good for our country. I feel they are entitled to have their wedding at any destination point of their will and price. that is and should be a given. How many of us with the affordability they have would rather stay in Nigeria for the wedding? we are all different -if you can afford it then go why not? Lets not be quick to judge others. As for Afritael, I believe that he needs to understand that celebrities alone cannot change Nigerian around, we need the government to assist in that too and they need to set precedence in their loyalties to the people so that we can also follow suit. Lastly, Banky was neither right nor wrong, but the detailed duties he has done are for his own benefit and not for public saying, you do good in private not the other way round, though am sure we Nigerians appreciate all that they do for and in their country, celebrities are also human first, at least they are not looting money from the people to divert for their personal use. Amen. sorry for the long write up o.

Banky W is so right on this one. What biz is it of the celebs to solve naija’s prob with having their wedding in d country? Are they Jonathan and d oda politicians milking us dry of our resources? Let us face the issues here, if our country was better, we would av other pple come here as well. How does having their wedding in Nigeria correlate to having investors come into d country or promoting the country? Is that what serious-minded investors or tourists are concerned about or they are more concerned about basic infrastructure not working. Please those criticizing them shld channel their energy and “I can talk” mentality to addressing our govts to provide the basic amenities. When you have power, good roads, schools, health care system, etc, you wouldn’t care less where anyone chooses to have their wedding; simple reason being you are not frustrated with your own life….

The Afrikeetal person is even based in America, as she is patriotic why she no dey Naija, she can even come to Borno and help them fight Boko Haram. On a more serious note, a wedding is not a business venture, it is not any ones business, where, who and when a person wants to marry. Do you know their reasons for doing it there? what if it is a way to control the crowd, cos i knw Nigerians no send Invitation only, one man go bring him whole village to come chop rice and pack souvenirs, Tiwa come be celebrity on top. People should start minding their business. Afrikeetal when your turn reach, with your new found fame, you can marry in Nigeria and show the world..

If an American, British or even SA celeb, planned to marry abroad, i doubt the citizena would care. Is there a reason Nigerians are so insecure about ,trivial matters like this? I mean i plan to get married,it should be a day, i,my family and friends never forget, not a day to create jobs and promote Nigeria..There are several other ways to do that.

I can’t stop laughing at the comments. What a way to relieve stress. May I remind you that your comments won’t change the venue of the wedding or stop others from having their wedding outside the shores of this country. As for being patriotic, please trying going to Borno state to show patriotism.

how will celebrating or doing her wedding in Nigeria change anything in Nigeria? Americans go to UK, France or Egypt to have their wedding does it implies they are neglecting the US for any reason or they should have take some jobless citizens of the street of the US first before embarking on their choice of destination wedding?
That comment was made out of ignorance

This Banky guy sounds as stupid as his comment by justifying this behavior. Total d…bag. Foreigners hardly go abroad for gate away wedding . I have them as freinds and they are extremly wealthy, but cannt figure out why Nigerians do this.

Being a public figure at times come with lots of critics, so sad really, leave them alone and let them enjoy the money they have worked for all their lives, tiwa went dancing for different musicians outside the country way back before now to earn living for herself , why didn’t you advice government to assist her then…. I beg allow her to enjoy what she has laboured for and safe the advice to the politicians, I think they need it the most..

Honestly speaking people are free to go to the moon to celebrate whatever. However, Banky has no point in his criticism cos if we are to really sit down and think and judge ourselves/ actions then we will know that Celebs such as Tiwa who was made in Naija should have given Naija the privilege of celebrating with her here. Why? Sebi she was a star in the Uk before coming down to Naija that finally brought her and her music out. Banky nko? No be abroad him school? Why him no dey dia do him music? Until we see the good in Nigeria we will never think about making it better. Abegi jor
