Davido - May 2014 - BellaNaija.com 01

Just because he calls himself Omo Baba Olowo doesn’t mean Davido is willing to let go of his Naira all the time.

The pop music superstar angrily took to his official Instagram page to post an expletive filled caption on how immigration officers made him miss his flight because they were requesting for money.

I agree with him the immigration officers are very annoying. Always harassing people for money like we are supposed to pay their bills.
When i came home for my sisters wedding in December, i landed on Xmas day in Lagos.
It was terribly hot and carrying my toddler who was tired and didn’t want to walk, this idiot officer wanted me to OPEN my box for what?????…..i said look am pregnant, tired, my daughter is also tired and its freaking hot. If you want to search that box open them urself, they are not locked e begin vex i said u never see something yet…..i get ur time this night he eventually let me leave…..i no get time ….

This is very normal na. They don’t care if he missed his flight, it’s their pockets they are after.

And this is the kind of thinking that is killing Nigeria “dude get over it. It is the usual naija” And what is this “something” that he should do about it? is he a law maker? is he in the government? Why should he burdened with giving them money?

Will Davido come out and say that he has never given them money before? He is now ranting because he missed his flight…
Yes, it is the usual naija because people have been entertaining it. Do something or shut up. He should use his star power to start up something against it and not just rant for 1 sec.. u dont have to be the government to make a change. Nigerians rely on the government too much…
look at how the parents of these children took matters into their hand and see what happened. The are now getting the needed attention/help.

look at the current issue going on….it has been festering for years but everybody carry face throw away for bush…Listen to Wole soyinka interview with Christiane Amanpour..

We are always fighting change because of this mentality that you will not come and spoil it for me when it is my time chop…

I really hate how those immigration officers beg for money, and in fact some bully one for the money. Even the customs guys are equally bad, saw one take a tee shirt of a foreigner’s bag and begged for it then the one next to him asked the man to also give him one. You could see how appalled the man was, I felt so embarrassed. There should be clear signs at the airport that no one should give them money, and they should be sacked when caught begging!

Thank you Davido, it is about time someone speaks out.

And it is time Nigerian travelers start protesting against these greedy officials at the customs. I say a law should go out to report and fire, anyone of them caught snakingly asking travelers for money. I suggest each custom officer at checkpoint should wear a badge with a large unique print number on it. If he or she asks for money, quietly give it to him without arguments, but afterwards immediately text report their number to their supervisor to a dedicated reporting line, to get them relieved of their duties since what they are earning there is not good enough for them. This is becoming a disgrace for Nigeria, I do not see customer officers at other countries engaged in this despicable habit, it must stop right away.

I meant “custom” officers not “customer” officers, so no-one should twist their tongue – misplaced typing. Peace.

From the responses, it is clear you don’t k ow how the Nigerian Immigration and Customs work. For Airports, Borders, Smuggler’s routes is where they top up their salaries, extorting money to buy houses and flashy cars. The most shocking part is they pay HR upwards of 2million Naira to secure these postings so they start their campaigns almost immediately they get in,to make their monies back. It has to stop. Customs especially are a failure! They harass ppl and allowed organised criminals to smuggle arms in whilst chasing ordinary business men and women for bribes.

They make people miss their flights all the time especially young men traveling out for business on a virgin passport. They will gather all of you in a room and keep questioning you unnecessarily. Asking for hotel reservation and all what not. At the end of the day you’ll have to pay them like 30k or more before they let you go. It’s really appalling. That’s how a porter stole my uncle’s bag that he put in his care containing his passport and other valuables and nothing came of it.The guy just pretended that he didn’t know what happened to the bag.Something that was packed in the trolley he was in pushing.

We are complaining about Immigration officers??? Well, when the president of the country says stealing is not corruption what do you expect mere immigration officers to believe or think. Who do they report to? the president? or yea he does not believe stealing is “corrupt” so definitely asking and harrassing people for money would definitely be what he would expect from and exemplary citizen. Like I said before the country is only as strong as we are. Our country, is only as corrupt as we are.

We are complaining about custom officers???? When the president of the country has made it clear that he personally does not consider stealing a corrupt act. So who are to report this immigration officers to? The president??? o yea but stealing is not corrupt right? So I am sure, begging and harassing people for money is just what we should expect from an exemplary citizen of the country. I have said it before and I will say it again, a country is only as strong as its people. Our country is only as corrupt as we are.

N.B: BN, Why do all my posts of recent not get posted? or do certain people’s post get blocked for some reason? Just curious.

This immigration officers are petty thieves. I think someone should video them insisting and begging passengers for money and that person be taught a lesson. Then they stop their rubbish.
