The 20th South African Music Awards took place at the Sun City Superbowl in South Africa on Monday 28th April 2014.

Pop duo Mafikizolo ruled the night picking up 8 awards including Album of the Year for Reunited.

BellaNaija Style was able to get images from the event and we were wowed by the red carpet choices, as well as amazed that a few people pushed the fashion envelope not in a way that all will agree.

Take a look and pick your best dressed.
Enjoy!

no! i understand she is trying to be “thick” but just no! she needs spanks to smooth her shape under that dress! uhh! she just looks soo disproportionate

The lady you’re referring to (Mbai Mlotshwa) is actually a very slim and petite girl.
The dress she wore had padding around the hip area in an effort to look more dramatic and haute couture (I assume).

I agree though, I didn’t think the look worked too well.

Such a tidy red carpet (even with some odd fashio) but this one had to go and ruin it http://static.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/South-Africa-Music-Awards-May-2014-BellaNaija001.jpg

Everyone looks effortlessly nice. S African blacks have really come into their own just 20 plus years since apartheid To think that a lot of great potential was repressed for so long. Blacks and whites mingling freely in their own country. God is good

everybody wears hair extensions get over it. im really sick of these terrorist naturals that dont look pretty talking about others not accepting themselves. my hair is relaxed but its still growing out of my head therefore it is MINE!. just because yours is dry and nappy does not mean you should go around intimidating people that look good.

    May 16, 2014 at 8:32 am

@SOLO ACT I totally agree with you!I Cant maintain dry, Nappy hair doesnt make me any more unnatural or less beautiful, so lets quit with the terrorism of natural hair and stuff, they wear makeup and doll up so having tons of dry hair doesnt make them any less natural, lets keep that in mind before criticizing

    May 16, 2014 at 9:22 am

Ok, guys it is common knowledge that most SA women are naturally light skinned and my own are mostly dark skinned, so to say no bleaching take note is not really fair, yes I agree that one should be happy in the skin God gave em and I am black and beautiful as well, I dislike bleaching with the scare of cancer it brings. So yes no bleaching but please lets note that the SA women are more fairer than others. That said, the red carpet was very nice, and decent, no bulging thighs or tummies and showcasing of twin peaks, SA women are very content in their own skin o. that is confidence we all can take note of. Kudos

@SOLO ACT.. I should give you presidential handshake. I have been looking for a name that aptly describes these “team natural chanters” especially those that comment on the african city webisodes. I just read your “terrorist naturals” and laughed like no tomorrow. As in ehnnn the natural hair thingy in my opinion usually makes people look so unkempt and dirty and it is just disgusting generally but I don’t go about trying to force relaxed hair down their throats. Some actually pull it off. Its their preference, so I let them be. However, when they bring it to my face like one tried to do at my salon the last time I went….. I can’t help how I snap. You should have seen the nasty evil eye I gave her. She literally shrunk back from me.

That being said, the S.A tipdrills are here again. lmao

South African women don’t bleach huh? I know this is late but I watched a video a while ago talking about the bleaching epidemic in African countries. I remembered there was a South African celebrity who they interviewed on the topic, she had just “bleached” her skin in the video. Here’s the link- bbc.com/news/world-africa-20444798

I don’t support skin bleaching one bit.
Although we clearly have a higher percentage of bleachers(lol). I just don’t like how some of the comments make it seem like Nigerian women are the only culprits in the horrible epidemic.
