Update: Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is the new Emir of Kano

It has been a thrilling day of maneuvering worthy of an episode of “House of Cards”.
Earlier today, erroneous news reports were distributed to media outlets including BellaNaija stating that the new Emir of Kano was the son of the late Emir, Sanusi Ado Bayero.

It has now been confirmed that former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is the new Emir of Kano.

And so what? Jonathan can still make it without Sanusi and Kwakwansos’ Kano.Do not mix politics with traditional institution. Period. Congratulation, Sanusi jare.

…it maybe too early to celebrate. This is one single move in a chess game called present day Nigeria. There are riots in Kano at the moment. No one knows the course of history, we can all watch and wait and perhaps have a plan B(for those of you in the country). This is the beginning of a very interesting saga. Sanusi’s hands are not clean, the past Emir was revered and well loved by his people; these are contentious political times in Nigeria. See who makes the next move….

Wale, those are words of a wise man. Thank you. Let us pray that all will be well with our country. Too many pressure points converging towards 2015…. We need to pray. God is greater than anyone and He will deliver this great country.

Nigeria is more than the soap opera Checkmate. Former Governor of CBN becomes the Emir of Kano and his first picture tweet is this ‪#‎BringBackOurGirls‬. A sign of things to come. I don’t want to imagine what GEJ’s camp is thinking. When the enemy you created becomes the king of one of the most populous states in the North, your election is nearer than you thought.

      June 8, 2014 at 9:34 pm

And when did kano’s votes become the major determinant for winning the presidential election or Is Kano the only state in Nigeria? And does he need WHOLE nigerians’ votes to become president? Abegiii you guys should stop causing fire where there’s none

LOL. Your comment just exposed your ignorance about the intricacies involved in Aso Rock/Northern Nigeria politics… All I’d say is that you should sit back, relax, drink chilled zobo and watch as events unfold.

june 8 so spectacular in the history of Nigeria.exactly 16years ago most Nigerians were happy over the death of Abacha its lamido sanusi

  37. Ruth

    June 8, 2014 at 11:34 pm

Sanusi, is yet to take accountable for the millions of money that was missing. So, why are people congratulating him. Naijas are fake and too carried away by power. Jonathan, is a useless president and just for that it’s enough to make him lose. Oh, I forgot Nigerians are corrupt and are ok with having a dummy as president.

  38. shola

    June 8, 2014 at 11:51 pm

Nigerians are so benighted. First Sanusi becomes the Emir over the heir Apparent, the son of the deceased. How much was he paid off. Second the role is supposed to be spiritual not political. Third the Emir is under the President. Fourth He is s sponsor of Sharia rules n Islamic banking. Once he ordered the killing of a man. He is under scrunity as a boko haram sponsor..the list goes on. God never sleeps

    • Yt

      June 9, 2014 at 10:03 am

@shola, every king chooses his heir apparent, could be his first son or even his nephew. But the heir apparent doesn’t have an automatic ticket, because his family is not the only one in contention. It’s not about been paid off, it’s about tradition, the CV of the parties involved and the decisions of the kingmakers. Bayero’s grandfather became emir after sanusi’s grandfather.

    • crayfish

      June 9, 2014 at 11:26 am

It doesnt always work that way. There are ruling/royal houses. Sometimes the seat rotates to another house/family; the heir apparent isnt always the automatic next-in-line. Besides, it’s the Sultan of Sokoto’s role that is spiritual… not necessarily that of the Emir of Kano.

  39. Realist

    June 9, 2014 at 2:31 am

It’s so shameful that a man being scrutinized for financial crime and funding of insurgency becomes emir. Even with the fact that there is an heir apparent to the throne. Nigeria is a joke.

  40. Tunde

    June 9, 2014 at 3:40 am

Na wa for this shola o, I’m sure your not this foolish read the history of kano emirate before you comment. Alhaji sanusi(sanusi lamido’s grand father) was the emir before ado Bayer. Second what makes the role spiritual? and not pilitical.

  41. NNENNE

    June 9, 2014 at 3:51 am

  45. Peter

    June 9, 2014 at 9:29 am

For your information’s,Jonathan has nothing to do with Emir of Kano and if you must know,Jonathan has the right to Dethrone him is he wish as it has happened in Nigeria before when Abacha Dethroned the Sultan of Sokoto. Please let us mind our utterances.Congratulations Sanusi as the the new Emir of Kano!

    • crayfish

      June 9, 2014 at 11:29 am

Shatap! Abacha was a dictator delving in matters that werent his concern. Besides ask your parents, they’ll tell you that it was a childish move by Abacha because the Sultan arrived after him at an event and was given the reverence his office commands.

In fact the actions of our Nigerian citizens dey surprise me as everybody refuse to see the good works that Almighty God is doing through the hand of GEJ but are bent in removing him let us pray very well to Allah not to use our hand to cause self desruction. To our emir may God give you long life to lead your people right and for now I advise you step aside from politics and allow God to choose for this Nation. Your own chidren are not here so also are your relatives preach peace rather than destruction. Lon live the emir.

hmmm! chai! chai! chai! oga Jonah there is God oh! Na only u wan no make Sunusi Lamido Sunusi enter his Palace. you go carry P0lice waka come engulf our Palace wey our Grand Pa build? there is God OOOh!!!…. Its quiet unfortunate for the Presidency to involve herself in an affair which has noting to do with her. just because you have an issue with His Highness, does that gives you the right to to stops him from entering his Palace? Well, I am not surprise because you will say that you have no hand in this case. But what happen to the securities that were withdrawn from Kano State Government House? Or will you tell me those ones too you don’t know about them too? Please let someone just tell me that we have a coward President. Oh! what a shame that I leave to see a so called Presidency In my Country. Very soon GEJ and his looters shall be exposed and mind you, you can never stops the wind of positive change coming to Nigeria 2015. Sunusi has made his way to the Palace and lets see if you Jonathan or any body can get him out. Baba Kwankwaso ja mu muyi gaba, saura farin gida na Abuja sai Mun Zo by Allah’s will!
