Ebola Spreads in Nigeria - BellaNaija

Sadly, Ebola is spreading in Nigeria.

Nigerian health officials have reportedly announced that there are 10 confirmed cases of Ebola in the country, NY Times reports.

As BN, reported previously, two people have died from the disease: Patrick Sawyer (the Liberian-American) and one of the nurses who took care of him.

Speaking on the spread of the virus in Nigeria, Dr. Frank Mahoney, an epidemiologist who has been leading the Center for Disease Control’s Ebola response in Lagos, said international health officials are working with Nigerian officials to curb the spread of the virus.

Mahoney also revealed that health experts are working with the government to reach out to religious leaders including T. B. Joshua, to stop large gatherings that could encourage the spread of the virus.

According to reports, most of the Ebola cases involve individuals who had some direct contact with Sawyer, either at the airport or at the hospital where he was treated -First Consultant Medical Center.

Not sounding overtly realistic, but T.B should kindly heed this plea and ensure that, at best, his members from other African countries are scrutinized for cases of Ebola. In such times, wisdom is essentially profitable to direct. God help us

Bella Naija please clarify. Are the 10 new cases separate from the 7 confirmed cases stated by the health ministry? Are there now 17 confirmed cases?

these foreign news bodies are dedicated to hyping this disease. it is the same number of people that had it before. One new case has been added. Ten fresh cases from where overnight? BN behave urselves and stop contributing to a culture of fear.

But BN stated clearly that most of the new cases are people who came in contact wit Mr Sawyer either at the Airport or Hospital.

If BN stated clearly, y are they re-reporting it. These are the same people we know with the ailment. Not a new group of 10. This is not 10 + the initial 9. Basically rebranding and reporting the same thing. People are scared enough.

Its now 10 CONFIRMED cases including the patrick sawyerr and the nurse that died.
I suspect the additional confirmation may have come from the mother who was picked up from NNPC hospital since she had been at First Medical during the time Patrick was there but she was a secondary contact though

You people should please leave Bella Naija alone! Is BN the Ministry of Health or Information? Why dont the appropriate ministries do their jobs of telling the people of Nigeria the updates? What baffles me was when I watched the minister of health saying there was no one with ebola in Nigeria last week Sunday on NTA. He told people not to worry or express any anxiety then some days after we learned the nurse had died and now we have 10 cases of ebola???? Somethings dont just add up? Lagos is one of the most crowded cities in the world, that is why we desperately hope and pray this monster is contained. May God Help us O!
