Fans Slam Wizkid for Not Featuring Dark Skinned Girls in Video Shoot in Miami

Wizkid in Miami - August 2014 - 01 (3)
Star Boy is currently in Miami, Florida to shoot a new music video.

As we all wait to see what Wizkid has in store for us, his fans are not so happy with his latest move.

The 24-year-old “On Top Your Matter” star posted photos and video clips on his official Instagram page and his followers are going in on him for not featuring dark skinned girls but Latino ladies.

This stupid wizkid is getting on my last nerve these days. From his incessant fights on twitter calling people poor to jealousy killing him ontop Davido’s success to his color-struck ass! Its clear the idiot is struck…he grew up wretched so everything he wasn’t “used to” is shacking him like crazy. He keeps churning out rubbish music these days too without remorse. Please allow him…u can’t take the bush out of a bush man.

Omg, Chai see how you are so mad untop someone else success, you expressed how mad you are and how terrible life have been treating you… without knowing you, i know you are so unhappy… I understand you, I pray God help you, before you commit suicide…

Shut the hell up and allow people voice their opinion! Do you know him/her to ascertain that life is treating them bad? Air-headed rats roaming around here looking for ass to kiss. Put a sock in it and concentrate on praying for your own jobless self. I can’t stand you people coming here attacking people for having their own POV.

      August 2, 2014 at 2:04 am

Wrong the fans money…They pay for the concerts. Don’t care as long as he is not giving out only a one-sided superficial idea of beauty… oops he does well…I don’t know what the song is about but figure he doesn’t have meaning in his songs anymore except booty like Timaya. Don’t really care I say our female artists should only use Hot latino men like Enrique Iglesia, young Antonio Banderas ooo I like this yep hot latino guys only no dark skinned guys and if we choose to have one token one he can’t be Nigerian.

      August 2, 2014 at 11:33 am

Love your comment for the first time….btw people crying he didn’t feature this and that, they are always d first to discriminate against others…. And what if his idea and message of the song is wat he’s trying to portray in d video?…am so over this dark skin this light skin that.

    August 2, 2014 at 12:42 am

Very stupid of him. Does Pitbull put black girls in his videos? Does Enrique Iglesias? Marc Anthony? No, they put their own women in their videos, regardless of where they shoot them. Whizkid should get a clue. There are plenty of black, even Nigerian girls in Miami that he could have put in his video.

He clearly went they Kanye route, “But when you get on he leave your ass for a white girl.”

thats some very stupid argument to make….if you are not intimidated by light skinned girls why should it bother you who gets put in what video..are they not women????get some education or take a self appreciation class and stop talking rubbish…………

    • blessing

      August 2, 2014 at 2:35 pm

its not about being intimidated, its about african women being told they are not pretty enough for the white standered of beauty and by these black men excluding black girls they are telling the world that we are not good enough.

    • Honeybooboo

      August 2, 2014 at 4:18 pm

Alvin the chipmunk, I have education (check), I’m not intimidated by half naked Hispanic girls dancing like strippers in a music video (check). Maybe if you were educated you could manage to look deeper at this situation as being about more than jealously. Its about the message black artist sent to people all around the world about how they feel about themselves and their culture. Music videos are an opportunity for black artist to showcase beautiful women. If all of the women they showcase look nothing like them, that says a lot. Considering only black artist do this, that also says a lot. That was my argument, and its perfectly logical and sensible.

      August 2, 2014 at 9:19 pm

thank u oo! black guys are STUPID! these girls are LATINA! no light skin nigerian girl has these features! i swear down people dont think at all how many times have u seen other artists or other races use black women? its always Stupid BLACK men that want to unite the WORLD! give it a rest! no one like u like that.

If he had used dark-skinned black girls now there would have been people complaining about black women debasing themselves and Wizkid having no respect for women of his colour. Obviously I’m not saying that he picked light skinned girls so that dark-skinned girls would not be “disgraced”, but the point is people will always talk. If you don’t like it, close your eyes. Did you finance his video? If he decides to use dark girls only because his fans are complaining and not because he wants to, how does it change things? Abegi.

  8. anonymous

    August 2, 2014 at 2:10 am

ah ah. people don’t be mad at wizkid. He’s just a crass unenlightened african who is still living in the social code of ; white=beautiful. Don’t be mad at him. it is all he knows. It is like some african who travels abroad for the first time. Obviously, as expected, you will be initially marvelled by the various diverse shades of white you see around you. but then as you become ‘accustomed’ you soon realise that it is really not that special. Patience, he will eventually reach our level.

why is anyone surprised? the only black woman i’ve seen wizkid with is the girl who had a child for him. the man suffers from short man complex, hence the need to be noticed, so he likes light skinned and biracial girls. then again, maybe these girls were some of the hottest who came for the casting calls. trust me, most video vixens who come for auditions are not hot, but the ones who get into the videos are sluts, sometimes picked from strip clubs, etc.

Whenever these Nigerian artists come to Twxas, they go for the Latinos or whites, because they are men with low self esteem, so in their deluded mind, they think hanging around with women other than blacks elevates their status. Just because someone is suddenly rich, doesn’t mean they didn’t have low self esteem.
I love country music, but I’ve never watched anyone that features black women.

    • Tagoc

      August 2, 2014 at 12:38 pm

This is a very moronic answer. A guy travel thousands of miles to a new land (America) the melting pot with women from all over the world, especially Houston which is one of the most diverse cities in America and you want him to interact with dark skinned girls only? And if he dare interacts with Latinos (which I’m sure are plentiful in Texas) he has low self esteem? You are very ridiculous. It is this kind of thinking that makes successful black men avoid black women.

    • David Nwachukwu

      August 2, 2014 at 2:34 pm

Babe calm down, we are all championing DIVERSITY. We just want him to feature a mix of beautiful women of different, equally stunning skin tones. That’s all.

    • Honeybooboo

      August 2, 2014 at 4:38 pm

You are the moron. She clearly did not say that she expects black men not to interact with people of other cultures. She said they shouldn’t exclusively feature those women in their music videos. 2 very different things.

    • TexasHausaGirl

      August 4, 2014 at 10:31 am

Because some black men date white women as a “come up” I’m half white, and half Nigerian Hausa. But I’ve seen that Nigerian celebrities when they come to The U.S, gravitate towards the Latinos and Whites. Wait! Houston is what?? Please child.

Inferiority complex…your name said it all. So no more comment. Have you ever watched a Country music, and see them feature black women!? I understand it’s his video and his money so he can do whatever he likes but seriously they couldn’t find a beautiful black dark skinned woman to feature in an Afropop song made by an African artiste? There are no black women/video vixens living in Miami? I have personally experienced artistes/ directors picking white/non black girls over beautiful dark skin ladies so this is not hearsay. I just don’t understand why these people keep choosing not to represent what their mothers/daughters/sisters look like, i mean black women are already under-represented enough but black men are still choosing women of other colours to represent their own people in their own production, something they have control over! It seriously irks me when i turn on the music channel and 95% of music videos with a black artiste features mostly non-black women, while 100% of white/latino/other races hardly ever have black women in their videos! And this under-representation of black beauty transcends beyond music videos – movies, tv shows , print/tv ads etc. Until we start appreciating ourselves as black people, we will keep being the underdogs in society, our dark-skinned women will keep bleaching their skin to look lighter, our young black girls will have no dark-skinned women in the media to look to up and instead ask mummy “why didn’t God make me as light as those other beautiful girls on TV” Sorry for my long rant yo!

    • TexasHausaGirl

      August 4, 2014 at 10:39 am

Thanks spicy, all these people with inferiority complexes see it as an achievement. You listen to Latino-based raps/hip hops, it’s all Latino women. That’s why Spanish, is the second language in the U.S because they are so proud of their culture, while Naija people even in Nigeria are proudly shying Way from their tribal languages.
A Naija men will come to the U.S, for most of them their greatest achievements are ” I only date white, I don’t date Africans” especially most of them that came from poor families, didn’t grow up with silver spoons in their mouths. For them, dating a white woman is a “come up” Period!! And simple!!!

Made some good points but they are Nigerians that married black such as black American.. you mentioned that you are biracial mixed which mean that your dad did not married an African women. I am also half Nigeria (from yola-dad) and African American (mixed)-mother.. no matter how much you stress that Nigeria should love they woman understand that people like to try something different that is human nature…everyone have a choice and it does not mean the other choice is good or bad..

This is reverse racism. These girls (of course, they are mostly African girls) who criticise have inferiority complex tucked in somewhere in their criticisms. Naija boys don’t get up in arms just because a female African act used a light-skinned or white boy in her video. Wizkid’s last video was with very black, very African/Naija girls. Artistes put out whatever they like, and it’s either you wanna watch or not. And like I also commented elsewhere, I would even want him to diversify more, maybe into Malaysian or Japanese girls next time. 🙂

Stop generalizing. If I’m treated badly by a black woman, does that automatically mean all black ladies will treat me badly? I live in a state where I see women of every ethnicity/ race (Hispanics, Black, Asian, White) that I’m attracted to (including Nigerian women).

At the end of the day, if I end up with a non-black or non-Nigerian, it doesn’t mean I don’t find black women attractive. In fact, if I had to rank, I personally find black women as more physically attractive (maybe it’s because I grew up in Naija), I just don’t want to limit myself because I meet people of other ethnicity daily.

It’s Wizkid, he’s not curing world hunger, ebola, cancer, or proffering a solution for world peace. It would be nice if he was less clueless on diversity and socio-political issues but since that’s not the case we could simply leave him (and his videos) be; and instead ensure that our more impressionable young women around us aren’t overly affected by this video (amongst several other similar videos.). Truth be told – he has made better videos… “Holla at your boy”, Pakurumo…, Even “Tease me” wasn’t so bad, female strippers aside. He needs to evolve a little bit more though. Jus’sayin…

Love Naija music, don’t care for these music videos. Post colonial beauty standards in such blatant display is saddening and embarrassing. Yes, there is an inferiority complex. But to say it’s internalized only by dark skinned women is naive and plain wrong. The sad part is these music videos are the best opportunity to brand ourselves and declare our own beauty standards (I can’t think of a better way, commenters please offer opinions). And look at what we do with the platform. I feel hopeless that things will change.

All I can do is be the change that I want to see in the world, which simply means not endorsing this beauty standard with my YouTube clicks or album purchases. I don’t know what else to do.
