Desmond Elliot to Run for Lagos State House of Assembly 2015

Desmond Elliot Lagos State

The trend continues!

Nollywood stars Julius Agwu, Kate Henshaw and now Desmond Elliot have announced their interest in political positions for the 2015 elections.

The first photo has the posters and campaign slogan, while the one below details his platform under APC, the leading political party in Lagos State.

It’s refreshing to see a new crop of political aspirants and leaders.

We wonder who will run next… any guesses?!

      But why not?

We’ve been screaming for change for decades, yet I don’t see many new faces trying to get into positions that can effect change.

I have no knowledge of Mr. Elliot’s political capabilities but if I’m tired of the same faces rotating themselves and yet I won’t run for office, then by all means let someone new do the running. Who knows? He might have good intentions.

He doesn’t have to choose one, he is a talented man and it would be useless if he forgot to use all his talents, stay there and be forming I go be ordinary instead of becoming extraordinary to change the lives of those around you and those to come in more than one way. At least he is doing something rather than just talking to change naija. And by the way nigeria is a democracy and considering that he is mixed tribal identity, the culture still remains his father is a yoruba man, and as we say you are what ur papa be. It is also refreshing that lagos state is so understanding of true democracy we originally had in the first republic that it’s allowing whomever wants to change naija, especially lagos state for the better, no matter their hometown or tribe to contest, to me this shows improvement and I pray for other states will follow its example. uncle Desmond continue doing your thing and may God lead you and May thy words and work be blessed. Please be a change we have longed and show the greatness that can be this country. I trust you!!!

Let’s cut them some slack …lol. .I mean Ronald Reagan was an actor before he became the president of the United States and let’s not forget the Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenneger who later became the governor of California…I am not saying I am 100% all for it but let’s just hope for the best. I don’t just think we should conclude that because they are Nollywood actors, it means they will flop in politics…it’s worth a try, noh?

    • bad examples

      September 13, 2014 at 5:04 am

Well, we all know what that actor turned governator did to cali… darn near left the state bankrupt. Don’t let me start with Raegan and his cohorts. .. the party of family values. Well, we all know how much of their family values the repugniCANT brought to the US. That said, if you are an actor, keep your career and leave the important decision to the grownups.

Not surprised every body wants to eat out of the national cake, even the so called pastors have their own political parties and run for office. Everybody is hungry, for both power and money, nigeria is now a free for all waste land, I don’t think there will even be a nigeria in the next 50 years.

BRUNO I hardly comment but I read a lot of comments when I visit Bella to read up news. however, it is good to be critic when giving comments but not being harsh and bitter. u seem to be a SADIST. Abeg chill a bit. E too much cos whenever u comment it says a lot about u. though I know everyone is entitled to their opinion.

The’ve realized that there is a lot of money to be stolen in the government, thats why they are all jumping in, to get there own part of the national cake (people money)., Its all about money.
    Very sad.
Like Jonna, who added Ebele to his name in other to full the Igbos, this one has also added Yoruba name to his name, just to get the votes of the ignorant people that will be carried away by his fame and vote.
Jack off all trade, will alway be a master at nothing.

      September 12, 2014 at 9:57 am

As a matter of fact, Ebele is a name also borne by the Bayelsans… Take note!

    • Trina

      September 12, 2014 at 2:17 pm

Calling him an idiot was absolutely uncalled for. You appear to be an idiot yourself if a man’s ambition is enough for you to label him such.

So the next line of work for “artists” is now politics?? Na wa o!!!

I mean, i guess its good younger/new people are getting involved but For some reason it all leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Nigeria, you definitely have your work cut out for you.

Only Lagos accepts non-indigenes to run for office. Let a non-indigene go to Delta (or anywhere in the country for that matter) and try….we Lagosians accept all sorts of things sha.

Errmmmm ma, his father is actually Yoruba, from Lagos State. He said that a long time ago; I believe it was even in an interview done after Eji Owuro (by Bimbo Oshin) was released and the journalist asked him how he challenging he found being cast in a Yoruba movie…..

Olusola… Laughable! Well, let the best man win. If he has anything tangible to contribute, then he should be given a chance.

The new name he added though, is laughable. Is that suppose to garner more votes for him or what? LOL! Are we Yorubas mediocres or are we short of intelligent Yorubas who can vote for office? Why the new name?

  25. Halia

    September 12, 2014 at 12:55 am

I’m skeptical but optimistic. Obviously what’s in office now hasn’t worked since 1960 for the greater good. Can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results; n’est-ce pas? That’s called insanity. Perhaps , just perhaps who knows. #outwitholdinwithyoung #changeisconstant #youngpoliticing

  26. Mama mia!!!

    September 12, 2014 at 1:03 am

So you people would rather allow these rogues to keep chopping the money. While. I am not a fan of politics I’d much rather they be given political appointments without conforming to the perks that goes with politics. I cant help but encourage it. After all, the money is enough to go round! useless politicians!!!

As much as this sounds funny that all of a sudden all actors want to go into politics all in the name of changing Nigeria and planet earth, it does not cancel the fact that as humans some of them can make positive change. Acting is what they do not who they are. An actor can be a politician, a banker, or a pastor. There should be no limit to where people can go.

As earlier asked, who do we prefer? Illiterates who parade themselves eating government money all over? As for the name there are many people whose full names are hardly known to the public, especially those in the entertainment industry. If you ask me Jim Ikye’s full names i would not know.

Nigerians judge people a lot. Pull out the lock from your eyes before proceeding to remove perks from others eyes

    September 12, 2014 at 8:44 am

at first glance, one would go wth? but on second thought, he’s young, bright and educated. if he can bring something positive to the table, why not? even if he is going to “chop” money, at least let the money change hands. enough of all these semi-literate old men that refuse to die.

Olushola ko! Olushola ni! So all of a sudden he remembers he has a Yoruba name eh! Guy, contest if you want but don’t come up with any name thinking it’s gonna change anything! I’m sure GEJ is your role model cos you’ve started towing his path of adding Ebele to his name to gain favour with the Igbos. Small time you go come dey tell us how you no get shoe and you dey trek the streets of Lagos! Who even knew this dude was Yoruba! He never identified as one and now all in the name of politricks, his name is Olushola…..Oga park well biko!

I don’t have a problem with him going into politics, but the fact that he never proudly identified as a yoruba man(used english names, never spoke yoruba or did anything to signify he was yoruba), but all of a sudden because he’s running for office in yoruba land whips out his yoruba name, tells a lot about his dodgy intentions. Its such a cunning and manipulative behavior.

I don’t have a problem with him going into politics, but the fact that he never proudly identified as a yoruba man(used english names, never spoke yoruba publicly or did anything to signify he was yoruba at all), but all of a sudden because he’s running for office in yoruba land whips out his yoruba name, tells a lot about his dodgy intentions. If he never mentioned he was Yoruba before it showed he was a good politician because he would not have survived in Nollywood if he was blatantly announcing he was Yoruba. FYI Nollywood when it started by the Igbo marketers was an Igbo-centric stronghold and only Igbos could excel and go far. For Desmond to go navigate those treacherous waters and go far as a Yoruba man shows he has the skills to make it in politics. Nollywood I believe is a platform. It is a platform be be seen and from there launch yourself in whatever direction you want to go. I wish him the best in his new endeavour..

though this is good but it is rather good to always to show one identity in all situations while believing in the Master of all circumstances. though I’ve heard n seen How it common to some tribes to show hatred to other tribes. So I support him to run but he must go there to show the whole world that only youths can do it. Perhaps this place is not our own, all is going to be burnt up after Christ would have taken away he’s own elects.
