Eldee: A “Runs Girl” aint nothing but a High Priced Prostitute, Stop Celebrating these Hoes & Making them Role Models for Young Girls

Eldee 1Nigerian rapper, record producer and architect, Eldee, shared his views over the weekend about “Runs girls’ and the role they play as role models to younger girls.

He shared his message on Instagram and Twitter saying ‘A “Runs Girl” Aint Nothing but a High Priced Prostitute, Stop Celebrating These Hoes & Making Them Role Models for Young Girls’

He then added to his Instagram post, ‘#tellitlikeitis #AshawoNobework Stop encouraging little girls to sell their bodies for electronic gadgets, plane tickets, and designer bags, just to be able to flex on Instagram. Our society now condones prostitution so long as you’re not standing on the road, but a whore is a whore, whether for N500 or a Birkin bag. #SaveTheNextGeneration #StopMakingProstitutionAwayOutForYoungGirls #ThereAreNobleAndLessDestructiveWaysToEarnALiving Anyway sha, I no holy pass anybody, I jus dey observe, and I get loud speaker.’

Some of his followers used his comment section to express their thoughts.

I agree with Eldee’s comment but if he knew his hands weren’t clean, he probably should have thought twice before he wrote it. Thank goodness I am not on Instagram, can’t stomach all the drama, would rather watch jejely on BN.

There are “runsboys” and “runsmen” don’t be fooled. I know a top naija babe who flies men around the world just to sleep with her…. it’s extremely sexist on Eldee’s part to suggest that this “runs” work is for women only… absolutely NOT.

    • APK

      November 24, 2014 at 6:50 pm

Being a woman, i absolutely agree with you, but i would also mention in all fairness the percentage of women involved in Nigeria as to men is quite higher and becoming an acceptable norm. Its no longer seen as immorality as long as you get something out of the relationship.

I’m quite appalled some people really took their time out to insult him and call him names for standing up for morality. Like I don’t get it. Our generation disgusts me with their new found mentality. Hiw celebrating and applauding women shaking their booty for a living is now a thing is amazing. Lord help us.

    • Surely

      November 24, 2014 at 7:57 pm

He isn’t standing up for no frickin morality. Eldee is a dog and a ho himself. how dare he call out women? Yes women sleep around and do runs and cheat but you think the percentage of them outweigh the men??? Think again!!! The men are notorious for being whores and are even proud of it but he wants to sit on his ho ass and call women names?

Eldee, you thought you could get away with this crap? Oshi. Now the world has seen your ass. You’re a ho as well. Join the runs girls in the back seat. You must have fallen and bumped your head on Ifa’s sacrifice.

It’s the double standard people are protesting. Are the women forcing them selves on the men? Especially in Lagos where men will not see yansh and let it rest. It goes both ways. Men should keep their wallets inside their pockets and women close their legs too.

      “Tenks” for coming.

Speak on it Eldee! I noticed one thing very prevalent on social media. Once something is done by certain people….popular people, it is suddenly ok, meanwhile its frowned upon when less popular pple do it. This applies to this so-called “runs” which babes arent even ashamed of any more and will even brag of the caliber of (married) men financing their lives on IG. So because u are in the social scene, have popular/rich friends, many followers, it is cool. Senseless things nowadays are validated when certaiin people do it. Babes will go ham on cossy and maheeda for posing half-naked but will call kim k “bae” and applaud her nude pics. Like really, people of today no longer have a mind of their own. People esp alot of those active on social media just goes with whatever’s popular . Grown ass folks dont think for themselves anymore and the double standards are outrageous.

preach eldee, especially in Lagos and Abuja. And the sugar daddies who patronise these girls need to be called out too. These girls make it seem as if a young lady cannot amount to anything or make money with her hand/head without sleeping around. Steady displaying their ill gotten wealth on social media unashamedly. They’re calling themselves stylists, MUAs, interior designers, upcoming actress and the most recent rampant one “entrepreneur”…..unfortunately tainting the image of those who are really striving to make a name in these industries. Who told you that opening a shop in lekki phase one to sell accessories makes you an entrepreneur??? Is it the profit from the accessories that’s paying the shop rent, sales girl salary, your house rent on the island, bought your brand new car or paying for your vacations? Unfortunately this is what people appreciate and celebrate these days….designer shoes and bags. And the stuuuuuuupid men would rob these girls of their self worth and self esteem, feed on their confidence for filmsy thousands to millions of naira, and carry different diseases to their wives back home. Unfortunately this is the generation we live in.

I agree with his post. We should not be glamourising prostitution or runs or whatever fancy name we want to give it. However I find that the Nigerian condemnation of prostitution is very one sided and sexist.

    1) Prostitution is not exclusive to only women. I cannot speak for other cities, but I know for a fact that there are tons of men selling their bodies for contracts and other things in Abuja. There are men sleeping with rich older women, rich older men or even both. There are some who are married with wives and children but still have sugar mummies (usually very powerful women who give them contracts) and in some cases their wives are aware.

    2) In the case of female prostitutes, if you’re going to insult and condemn them, extend the same ‘courtesy’ to the men who patronise them. After all if no one was paying for it they would be out of business long ago.

    • Bisi

      November 24, 2014 at 11:32 pm

Yes, but the men don’t go on Instagram or any other social media to display or flaunt their ill gotten loot from these sugar mummies or daddies, passing it off as an acceptable way of life, which is the message these ladies put out and young girls aspire to.

As long as a woman is sexually active her motivations for doing it should be her business. Whether she does it for money or gives it free to her boyfriend or husband. It’s her whatever and she should be able to do whatever she wants with it. After all when men are scheming and lying to increase their body count nobody calls them ” hoes”

Eldee presumably speaks from experience, but has eronously generalised by insinuating his views are norm in today’s society. Naturaly we live to witness change. Every microsociety would respond to cues from the broader society. Celebrating glamour is not a trend peculiar to our society. The world over assiciates with flamboyance as a measure of success these days. The conservative socialist states are warming up to capitalism, and we live to witness this. It shouldn’t then come as a suprise that our hitherto simple maidens are gearing as debutante. This is called change. It may challenge our norm, but its no reason to generalize that anyone in favour of this change is depraved.
Comparing flamboyantly classy girls to prostitutes is rather shallow. Eldee, an entertainer, in as much as he has every right to his opinion, may need revise his views with an open mind.

    November 24, 2014 at 9:16 pm

If Eldee was truly concerned about the issue Runs Girls and prostitutes in Nigerian society, then he would have mentioned the ‘Johns’ who help to fuel the industry. Doesn’t he live in America? He doesn’t know that in other societies, the men who patronize prostitutes are arrested, sent to ‘John’ school for reform, and in some cities, their names are published in local news papers! Where is his rant about those paying prostitutes? No where. Typical sexist nonsense.

Women should be warned because a man is a man, and they will enticed you with anything.A woman should have dignity, or she will be tossed like a football. This is what is happening now.No respect for womanhood, they now look at women as sex toy.So wake women and take your stand and work for your money and you will be dignify.

  26. brownchocolate

    November 24, 2014 at 10:10 pm

The movie ‘Pretty Woman’ cleary shows you that not every ‘runs’girl or female prostitute is in it mind, soul and body. For many its a case of use what you have to get what you need. The same goes for the ‘runs’boy and male prostitute. The reason why there’s so much attention on the women is because women are almost always at the receiving end. A woman is raped, people start to ask what she did to make the man rape her without questioning the man. I think I understand where Eldee is coming from but he was rather too harsh. Or was he? Maybe he’s just playing the devil’s advocate. Again how else do you shake people’s sensibilities? When you go on social media sites all you see is girls posing in high heels, fake hair , make up that makes them look western and expensive designer bags they cannot afford with 6 months salary. The boys looking all wierd in their tight fitting pants and stupid expression. What scares the shit out of me is how materialistic our society has become. Young boys and girls are in school living above their means all to what end? A large number of them graduate more disoriented than they got in. No sense of direction whatsoever. Who do you blame? Parents are busy chasing money to care about the most important thing which is to be parents to their children. We’re sitting on a ticking time bomb going tick! tock! tick! tock!. This matter is a serious matter and we don’t understand what we are doing to ourselves. The things we are allowing. We seem to think its someone else’s job to make it stop. To reset the clock. Our young kids soaking in western culture like their lives depend on it. And the wrong kind for that matter. Ok oh. Make we continue to sidon dey look and see where it takes us.

I read this blog and the responses one time too many because I wanted to understand the outrage. Perhaps I did not see all of Eldee’s postings but the one on this site simply refers to a specific category of women. My conclusion is that this blog and Eldee’s social media page has some solid data on something that is usually so intangible it cannot be captured – the shift in societal norms. His posting was a social experiment that was unplanned yet so stark in what the data says, which is that societal norms have changed, and interestingly, that the average Nigerian female social media user believes selling sex is abominable. This is intriguing because given that the age long condemnation of sex selling still has a strong hold in Nigerian society, perhaps in RENAMING it to terms like “Runs girl” and “big girl” we comfort our emotional sides, avoid our demons, and avoid self-condemnation.

Unless a significant fraction of Nigerian women are now doing runs. I simply cannot fathom the need for the venom he has been dished. If you date someone because of what you can get from them, it does not matter the premise for your actions (acute poverty, death in the family, loss of the breadwinner, need to train oneself, etc), you are exchanging a commodity for cash Its trading. If you had gold and you got cash in return because a loved one was at the brink of death and you needed funds to pay the physician, you just “sold your gold”. If it is sex, you are selling sex; in other words, sleeping with you has a price tag. I think what might be scary for sociologists is what the boundaries are – virtually none. High class prostitution is no different from street side prostitution and that is what Eldee was trying to say. the bottom line is money exchanges hands in what is going on in Nigeria. Blaming the men patronizing the prostitutes is not going to change the name of the game, unless someone was going to work and a man kidnapped her, raped her and handed her a Birkin Bag. All are complicit – the demand and the supply sides. If the girl refused the offer, there will be no transaction. If many girls refused the offers they receive, we won’t have many men who are engaging in the habit. If many men did not approach women, there will be no “market”. I had a friend who had this girl visit his office 2-3 times a week. He said he met her at a friend’s party and she claimed her school apartment was near his office. After about 3 months of stopping by his office 2-3 times a week, the lady returned and this timensaid she had a question for him. Her question was “Wetin dey worry you self? I no fine reach? My [private parts] no dey like other people own? I dey come here everyday and you no wan sleep with me. I no fine reach?” Buddy was taken aback. He begged her not to come back. He said the girl was visibly upset that he had not offered to sleep with her.

High class prostitutes have the same health exposures as low class prostitutes – exposure to murderers and other types of criminals, high depression rates, high prevalence of STDs and diseases like Hep B, C and HIV. No amount of money can buy self worth. Renaming the act of rolling in sheets with people you would not care for if not for their deep pockets because of a trip to Europe, a Range Rover, a furnished flat or treatment of an ailing parent would not change these risk factors. While we may justify the need to exchange what we have, i.e. sex for what we need to survive or brag (money), we should not struggle so hard to redefine it. If people want to engage in the behavior, accept it and just do it to your heart’s content and forget what people say.

This is what we get when our country doesn’t strive to benefit a graduate man or woman. Someone goes to school for years, graduate with flying colors yet cannot find a job. Seriously, what do we expect besides male/female prostitute. Some of these ladies/men are knowledgeable, well read people but circumstances wouldn’t allow them succeed so they succumb to the pressures of the wealthy rich man/woman. We can sit to point fingers all we want, these trend will not fade itself if our leaders do not do their jobs to empower or make provisions for the generation now or ahead.
There are those who prostitute and then others who strive by all means to leave the country; So is either that or the other.
However, thi spoint is not a new thing, it has been happening long before eldee decided to use his voice. Nigerian home videos have made countless storylines on things like this in past and present time.
The bottom line is, what is the way forward, how do we reduce the infiltration of prostitution in our society. There is definitely a cause that has to be addressed.
Another side to the coin is, some of these folks are just too damn lazy, looking for the easy way to riches.
Eldee sorry for the backlash but i am guessing you are not innocent too yourself, you should have probably just closed your mouth, drink your tea in peace.
    My 2 cents.

    November 25, 2014 at 6:23 am

Eldee gave his opinion, ofcourse we can blame the men who patronize these girls, we can also say there are male prostitutes, we can even insinuate that eldee has a questionable behavior hence he should not point a finger. But the real reality is hidden in the message, that lifestyle is now what some young girls look up to, there’s little role models for the up coming generation and it is sad. We can be sensitive to his comments but let’s be realistic, a young girl/boy who believes in his/her talent, skill, potential, intelligence or even in his or her strong moral views will not allow herself/himself be enticed by whatever the man/woman proposes,it is like the old “blame the devil for your sins” game

One min Femi Otedola is to be probed for example, the next min he’s being celebrated on the cover of magazines and blogs. That’s just a mild and probably one of the least examples. But we need to stop being so wealth crazed as a society. Stop clinging to and licking the asses of “rich people”, just because…. they are rich.
Selling your pride, soul and future.

Listen, we need to attack the cheating married men!!! Maybe if they chose to keep their marriage vows and stop sexually harassing single ladies, then we wont have so many “runs” girls in business. Its the married men keeping them in business na, stop cheating and they will go away!!!

I agree with Eldee 100%, you loose a lot of tins selling your body for material tins, forgeting that they are perishable items nd we would not take anytin wen we die, the end result is not alwys good, go and check the lives of older women who did runs ,i have aunties who did runs wen dey were younger, today their lives are so scattered, ull pity dem,i can neva follow in deir footstep, one of them her womb was completely removed, now shes old with no child .Godliness with contentment is great gain, nobody is ready to be contented with wat they have, everybody wants the gud tins of life. There is truly dignity in evry labour, pick gud role models that are gud examples. The wealthiest men in the world live simple lives, real money speaks for itself

Eldee pls I want to correct something you said with your hashtag #Ashawonobework. this is simply not true Ashawo is work. Lets see the definition of work : As a noun it is an activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a result” Using the premise of this definition The activity involving mental or physical effort is sex and the result achieved is money ( Ego Igwe). loool! Merriam webster dictionary – a job or activity that you do regularly especially in order to earn money, according to ‘exertion or effort directed to produce or accomplish something’. with this few points of mine Eldee nwanne m I hope I have convinced you that Ashawo is work..Loool!

Now lets move on to the definition of runs – Sadly in Nigerian colloquial runs means having sex with different men for money. ok. Now lets observe this scenario ,if I Nkechi dated John for 2 months wherein I and John had sex regularly and John as my beloved #BooofLife continuously ‘provided’ for me by giving me money, Dubai trips, versace bags etc to maintain myself and look good for him. But alas we broke up and I met Yemi after healing from the heartbreak of John and the cycle continues wherein Yemi takes over the responsibility of my boo of life, with our sexual intimacy intact , adequately providing and all sorts till we break up 3 months later. After recovering from Yemi induced heartbreak I meet Ikenna of whom I am convinced that I will walk down the aisle with and Ikenna being the perfect gentleman picks up the ‘provision baton’ where yemi dropped it and holds forth till next 2months wherein we break up and now I have met Adamu ready to mingle. My BN ppl can this not be categorized as runs, seeing that I, Nkechi in this scenario have slept with different men and received money & gifts from them.. Ajuju ka m na aju? Loool!

The thing is, if you spend time with some girls into runs or have them on your bbm/WhatsApp. There are certain things they do that don’t add up or give them away. So even the ones that don’t brag about it. It will only take you to put a couple of things together and you will know she is into something shady. With the age of social media, these actions come to haunt them later maybe when u wan marry. Dem go expose your past for your hubby or something. We live in a very materialistic Society and this is encouraged by politicians, musicians and even the growing number of prosperity pastors. This trend encourages the make money at all cost mindset. We’re people are not concerned about how u made money, as long as u made it. This dangerous mindset applies to more than prostitution, it applies to fraud, robbery, and looting.

Eldee is right and there’s nothing to justify runs/prostitution, nothing at all. Let’s stop trying to console ourselves with a known fact that it’s the men that patronize and fund such lifestyles. It’ll only encourage young ladies that there’s a way out – men.

If women could opt for hardwork, dedication, contentment and patience( sometimes getting results takes time) we could become as successful as the men feeding crumbs under their table. I still don’t understand why a woman wouldn’t aspire to be the one with the money rather than some man funding her lifestyle! We’re all entitled to our opinions but spewing out all this venom? Come on!

Men will continue to use material things to get these girls cos, it works. If tomorrow the norm changes to example girls falling or sleeping with only guys with 6 packs you will see that guys will start having six packs cos it works. Some will even draw the six packs on their stomach. So tomorrow if a man offers u iPhone 6 for Sex, tell him no. For a start.

odikwa serious! lol, eleyi o le mehn…well in as much as eldee’s tweets may appear one sided i am appalled at the ‘there is no shame in my game ‘attitude of Nigerian girls these days. Okay so we know that the sugar daddies are agbayas etc, then why don’t you as a girl try to assist your fellow girl by not dating her granddad, father, husband or uncle biko!!! our morality barometer keeps chipping away as a society and I pray for our children oo…what is bad is bad, runs girl o, asewo, lekki bigz gals, sugar daddy/uncle/granddad etc
