Beyonce Slays in Ankara – Do You Want to Hear Her Fela-Inspired Album?

Beyonce Ankara - March 2015 4
It’s Queen Bey the ankara slayer!

The singer showed off this long-sleeve ankara jacket with a deep V neck and leather belt, paired it with a below the knee black pencil skirt and Christian Louboutin blush pumps with gold-capped toes on her Instagram page recently.

Beyonce Ankara - March 2015 1She must really be feeling the Nigerian vibe because her long-time producer The Dream, said she recorded an album inspired by Fela.

We did a whole Fela album that didn’t go up. It was right before we did 4. We did a whole different sounding thing, about twenty songs. She said she wanted to do something that sounds like Fela. That’s why there’s so much of that sound in the “End of Time.”

There’s always multiple albums being made. Most of the time we’re just being creative, period. We’re talking about B, somebody who sings all day long and somebody who writes all day long. There’s probably a hundred records just sitting around.”

The Carters are no strangers to the Afrobeat legend, as Bey’s husband Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter was a producer of the Broadway show named after the Nigerian icon.

Hmm so BellaNaija-rians… would you want to hear this album, or is it better left between Bey and her producers?

NO! I don’t care what anyone says ( Beyhive fall back please unless she’s paying you). That last album was mediocre at best. Only XO and Partition could be managed and because of that I think Beyonce’s standards have fallen. She’s still an amazing performer though.
I like End of Time but I did NOT get Fela or Afro Beat from it at all, so I’m not sure what they’re talking about. The fact that the beat is extra catchy or has a few drums does not automatically make it “African”

Did we listen to the same album? It’s the first Bey album I ever loved from start to finish. There’s a reason its her most acclaimed album by music critics. Songs like Heaven, Jealous, Mine ft Drake, Pretty Hurts and Haunted are some of her best work. People don’t like it when Artistes experiment with new sounds like she did. It may not be your cup of tea but she put so much into it recording and shooting videos while touring and being a mother and it shows. There’s nothing mediocre about it.

Actually, Nigerian artists are taking Naija music to the next level.
I don’t find her use of Fela’s influences as a big deal.

Better left between Bey, her producers and anyone else who cares to endure the agony of listening to Beyonce trying to sound like Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Being influenced by someone doesn’t mean you are trying to sound like them. Plus the album was recorded and scrapped in 2011. She has released 2 albums since then so I doubt anyone will hear it at all.

    I don’t know oohhh

    March 20, 2015 at 2:41 pm

I don’t get it, sampling of music is appreciated more by the artist, not necessary us here anyway. You might feel its nothing or she ruined the song/beat or the song didn’t make an sense, but the royalties that is coming to the family years after the death of Fela will go a long way. As for the ankara top, she slayed and looks good.

Please Hell no……Fela was a revolutionary…his music was power against oppression and enslavement of the masses…He used his gift and this power of music to fight corruption in government and inequality in society and he is the direct opposite of these bunch of materialistic unconscious artists of this time……Beyonce pls stay the hell away from a legendary master piece work of art..U’ve made enough money already from garbage booty music so stick to it ….This is not creativity but abomination…

To all those haters out there shut your mouths. Why even bother coming here and hating on Beyonce when she is one of the most successful and talented artists of all time. Lets see you put on a show like OTR and do it better then Bey and Jay did with those dance moves that could level with Janet or Michael. Please trash music… whatever!!! And I also have to say that if you really want to see her soulful true talent then go to YouTube and watch the Stevie Wonder Tribute. It was amazing! Haters going to hate but Beyonce will still be better and great!!!
