The train service in Lagos and other states in Nigeria is a product of the federal government under Goodluck Jonathan. The lagos state government does not operate or own any train service. Thanks

She allows her daughter to grow like every normal kid.
She doesn’t adorn her with makeups, hair extensions and othet flashy stuffs unlike some celebrity moms!

    • Leah

      March 3, 2015 at 5:25 pm

She has makeup on and she is wearing a wig, what is your point. You mean like other moms that know how to take care of themselves and look clean “Like a normal kid” her daughter is a normal kid, she is giving the child what she can afford. Please get the h3ll out of here with that your pretentious comment.

First of all, the woman is as normal as it gets, she has no choice but to raise her kids normal. There are a lot kids in Nigeria that come from privilege and hers are not one of them (not even close) let’s keep it real. And you better get your eyes checked because she IS wearing makeup and fake hair and she honestly can’t afford not to.

    • Tope

  13. Kuchi

    March 3, 2015 at 3:03 pm

Lets be honest the train looks good from what we see, BUT how many people will get to use it? How many stops or trains are there? Its too little. I think we need to stop appreciating politicians for achieving mediocre goals that won’t affect most Nigerians. The president is supposed to institute ideas that will change or affect millions of Nigerian for good not a few. AM not saying the trains are expensive. They are not enough to justify a good job. Its a no brainer to fix the rail system guys lets not applaud this as success but as a step in a direction he is supposed to go in anyway cos its his work.

    • Hakim

      March 3, 2015 at 3:45 pm

I don’t think you understand how train systems are built. I am currently schooling in Toronto. This “world class” city has been arguing for the past four years whether or not to add two more stations due to the high cost and disruption of adding new stations. So I know that even in a place where things are working It is not overnight ot easy. When I left Nigeria, there was no train system. This looks clean and organised. From my understanding there are now a few train lines now around the country. I am impressed. In fact it is one of the first things I will try when I come back. I applaud the transportation ministry’s efforts and I hope they can keep on expanding. Small by small we will get there.

    • memebaby

      March 3, 2015 at 4:35 pm

you are right..heard theres going to be an extension along yonge- spadina line heading to york university and vaughan as well. these things take time and would definitely try it out when I’m back home.

    • been there

      March 3, 2015 at 5:28 pm

Hakim, there have been working trains in Nigeria for decades. just go to the one at yaba, workers (both blue and white collar) board this to and from work. they used to be crowded and unclean. but the Iddo terminal in lagos is a landmark in the city and has been functional for so long. so say what you know

    • Shandi

      March 3, 2015 at 6:27 pm

Before I continue reading your comment, let me just add, Toronto isn’t a world class city.
Now I can read your comment and you can continue using your TTC.

    • Kuchi

      March 4, 2015 at 9:43 am

Mr Hakim no one is saying its not a step in the right direction. There have always been trains working in Nigeria. If you live here long enough you will know. The issue is quality, consistency and quantity. Are they working well? Do we keep them working? How many are they to make a difference. My point is Mr President is shoving “A Train” and not series of trains like you will find in Toronto (don’t mix that up with stations oga). How many ply one route? We have only one route in lagos and have had this for more than 20years. Let’s for once stop applauding efforts that are small and what is expected. This is not EXCEPTIONAL in anyway.

    • mujer

      March 3, 2015 at 4:23 pm

@Hakim, Thanks for clarifying. In Washington DC, some new train stations that were added cameabout after a 15 year vetting process. The Dulles corridor rail has been on the debate table for longer and only just grew wings. Nigerians want change within a blink yet they are unable to perform the miracles that they want. Can you imagine putting a train system in an overpopulated city that was not planned with trains in mind? it si okay to hate Jonathan and love Buhari or vice versa for no reason but let us be honest. I am amazed they have trains like this in Lagos. What I want to know is whether it is safe to board the trains.

    • Akan

      March 3, 2015 at 5:00 pm

Ideally current administrations build on and improve on the level of progress they met; so before you keep embarrassing yourself any further, what level of progress did GEJ meet? This is someone that salvaged a 30year moribund railway system and you are here spewing gabbage. What do you expect???????tubes and electric trains overnight???dream on

    March 3, 2015 at 3:31 pm

i think the one she joined starts from Iddo/Oyingbo area all the way to Sango, the stations are pretty small and they’re along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway. it is quite functional but the demand for it is still higher than the trains available. you get an airconditioned coach ticket for 500 naira i hear, and thats for the entire trip o.

    p.s no political sentiments implied.

    • daisy

      March 3, 2015 at 5:07 pm

500 naira is someone’s salary for a week and we know VERY WELL that the people who will want to enter these trains, most likely will not be able to afford 500 naira daily for an enitre trip.

    • Sylvia

      March 3, 2015 at 9:55 pm

If you earn 500 per week will board air-conditioned coach? Think before you type!

    • MrsIG

      March 3, 2015 at 10:59 pm

are you freaking kidding me N500 is someone’s salary for a week??? why are you people like this, yes I said you people cos you are a special breed, thats less than £2 for an entire route, more than reasonable I must say, how much is BRT from Ikeja to CMS, won oniranu oshi, why can’t you ever see anything good in what the govt does, FG especially.

    • deb

      March 4, 2015 at 10:17 am

i meant that 500 naira is the highest you have to pay for a ticket. there are cheaper tickets for purchase as well.

besides have you calculated how much it costs to go from Apapa to Sango Otta by road? people who even earn 500 naira a week will not work so far away because it doesn’t make any sense.

p.s again, no political sentiments implied.

This train exits in Lagos now. its a confirmed fact but I think the price is quite on the high side, although i understand that they re just starting and have a lot of over head cost to cover but then that is where i think fed govt should step in with a form of subsidy just like Fashola did and is doing with the BRT buses.

    March 3, 2015 at 7:39 pm

The trains in Lagos have been functioning long before President Jonathan came into power. President Jonathan has not done anything to improve transportation by rail in Lagos state. Not 1km of railway line was laid in Lagos state by the federal government. He didn’t buy more coaches to add to the existing neither did he renovate the existing train stations and terminals.
The trains are usually soooooo filled up during rush hour that people faint constantly on the trains. Mercy Johnson obviously travelled off peak period at which time traffic on the road would have reduced enough for you to bus or drive.
So don’t allude functioning train system to President Jonathan as he has done NOTHING for Lagos state.

    • Tommy

      March 3, 2015 at 8:28 pm

@Catie.. Please provide the name of the President who revived the train service in Lagos state and other states in Nigeria or forever remain silent. I am a staff of the Nigerian Railway Service and I know so much about the train service in Lagos and other states in Nigeria. Goodluck Jonathan revived the train service in Lagos and other states in Nigeria. You can walk into any train station in Lagos state and ask them. You sound so bitter and I wonder why. Please provide any evidence to show that the train services were not revived by Goodluck. Did you see anyone in a train during Obasanjo”regime? Or during Musa Yadua? U said Goodluck has not done anything in Lagos state…really? Wonders shall never end.

@catie. The train services in Nigeria were built during the colonial government and abandoned afterwards by various governments. The federal government under Goodluck has been reviving the train service including the lagos- Kano rail line, PH- Enugu and the the train services within lagos state as wel as the Kaduna- Abuja rail standard gauge line.. You can walk into any train station in Lagos state and find out who revived them as well as any other details. Thanks.

Ok so I spent almost all my life around Yaba axis of Lagos. Talk about secondary school (OLA) and tertiary(Unilag) plus masters o in the same Unilag. I’m talking about just 2013 o. I even played tennis at Nigeria railway compound far back secondary school. I have NEVER seen a train that you will want to just fashie Lagos traffic for. Never. Very ugly trains with people hanging and almost falling off. Fast-forward to last year dec , I was at Yaba shopping as usual and lo and behold a clean train without people hanging and I was amazed. Almost screamed I tell you. In Lagos? This same Yaba? O ga o. This is not propaganda and I dislike people who make annoying statements. Your finger is yours, vote for whoever you want to vote for but also give credit where due #teamRemi #Kowa party #first female president #may this dream come to pass

They are all the same thing! Nigerians don’t have a real choice yet! Real change will come when we have a real political party with people who have the interest of NIgeria as a whole at heart. It will not be about religion, tribe or zones then! They are all just shuttling between PDP APC same thing, diff names. If you ask me though, its time for Nigeria to be seperated! We have no business. Staying as one country!

Why do people have to be so mean? If you don’t understand some one the first time, would it hurt to clarify before you make your own assumptions and label them as no do gooders? We really should listen before putting down another, not acting as our own enemies. There are so many challenges in the world already.
