Inspired by the Yoruba Culture! O’Milua debuts “Ibeji” Collection for Spring/Summer 2015
Presenting the new collection from Nigerian fashion label O’Milua owned by Olajumoke Adenmilua. Titled “IBEJI” which translates to “Twins” in the Yoruba language; the collection was inspired by culture, people and especially the designer’s heritage.
According to Olajumoke – “As a Yoruba girl I wanted to capture and share my take of the research I came across that says the Yoruba people (especially the Igbo-Ora people of Oyo ) in Nigeria have the highest amount of twin birth in the world. I thought it was an amazing find and what better way to share this beautiful knowledge of my heritage than through a story telling collection using textured batik fabric I designed and had made by tie-dyers from Abeokuta“.
It is a blend of a contemporary approach fusion of African culture, geometry and fine lines. The collection is set in an art gallery which gives life to the rhythm of the collection’s pieces.
