A Nigerian male stowaway was found dead on Saturday on the main wheel well of an Arik Air aircraft at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

The body was discovered when the airline’s engineers were checking the aircraft in preparation for a flight, The Sun reports.

Adebanji Ola, spokesperson for Arik told newsmen that the incident is currently under investigation.

According to reports, “the Airbus A345 -500 where the corpse was found is used by Arik Air to operate the Lagos – Dubai, and Lagos – South African routes.”

Reports also state that this would be the third time in the last three years that Nigerians would attempt to stowaway on flights operated by Arik Air.  One of the most popular cases was that of a young boy who successfully stowed away on a Benin –Lagos flight in 2013.
