Bola Tinubu Says Oba Akiolu isn’t APC’s Spokesperson

Bola Tinubu Bella Naija

Former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu on Tuesday stated that Oba Akiolu is not APC’s spokesperson and therefore, his controversial anti-Igbo remarks should not be seen as APC’s viewpoint.

Tinubu stated this during a rally in Iganmu, Punch reports.

He also stated that PDP leader, Bode George, and Coordinator of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, Ifeanyi Ubah, were only making baseless accusations against the APC.

“The oba is not a politician. His job is to accommodate all political parties, whether PDP, APC or SDP. So, what did he (Ubah) go and do at the palace?

To you Igbos, don’t we pay your children’s school fees like others? Or is it the palace that pays for it? When we conducted an exam and a spelling competition, an Igbo boy, Ebuka, from Anambra, came first and he became the governor for one day.

Those that won the competition three times in a row were Igbo. Ebuka was sent to Switzerland computer school and then Obafemi Awolowo University. We did not say he was an Igbo boy and he would not enjoy. He became an executive in Oando and he is now in Canada.

Another boy, Felix, won and went to Switzerland and OAU. We paid his scholarship; we did not deny him because he is Igbo.”

In a separate statement, the Lagos State APC Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe said:

“Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos is not a card-carrying member of APC. He is not a leader in the APC. He does not speak for the APC. He did not speak for Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state.

He did not speak for our national leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He did not speak for the incoming governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode. His Royal Highness is at liberty to speak for himself and he spoke for himself only.

Lagos APC appeals to Ndigbo not to take the statement as the position of the party in Lagos. We passionately appeal to Ndigbo not to carry the statement credited to Oba Akiolu too far so as not to put a knife on things that have held us together for more than 50 years now.

If out of annoyance, you throw your cap away, a mad man will take it and use it forever.”

Exactly, let’s leave sentiments and face the issues of what will be best for Lagos. Vote based on issues and not all these rubbish

It’s high time we give this issue a rest, as we can see, most true lovers of this nation have condemned his ridiculous statements and I think it is high time to move forward and live as one. If we are expecting the king himself to come out and apologize on this matter, that will never happen due to the Yoruba customs that says “Oba Ba Lori oun Gbogbo,” which simply means that he can never be questioning for anything he does either good or bad. That doesn’t mean that we can’t criticize him whenever they go beyond their boundaries.

#If we keep reflecting on yesterday’s words, we won’t find someone to play with………Let’s move forward as a nation.

Thank you, It is an abomination in Yoruba land for an Oba to apologize publicly. It will have negative effects in his people, so forget Oba apologizing because it won’t happen. The best thing that can be done is others apologizing in his behalf which is what APC leaders have done. Abeg let’s move on and start asking real questions like where are their manifestos

Correct me if I’m wrong, so if he apologizes would there be famine in his land, would his people die, will there be frogs flooding his palace like the days of Pharaoh, would he have a heart attack, I could go on and on. Please NO ONE IS ABOVE APOLOGIES, I repeat NO ONE IS ABOVE APOLOGIES. If you are wrong apologize and move on, what the hell is -its an abomination for an Oba to apologize publicly, insane!

If he is not a card carrying member of the APC. Explain how this crazy Oba managed to impose Mr. Ambode on your party. I heard the Oba on the radio in October, 2014 pronouncing Ambode as his candidate for the governor of Lagos State when I was on vacation in Lagos. This was months before the APC primary election ever took place. I was surprised after viewing the video of the Oba of Lagos psychotic episode where he repeatedly clammed that he imposed Mr. Ambode’s candidature on APC party. Please do not use a lie to cover another lie. We are no fools. We now know how Mr. Ambode became APC choice candidate through godfatherism. The Oba of Lagos had vested interest in APC and especially in Mr. Ambode’s candidature. That’s why he threw himself under the bus by intimidating the Igbo people. It’s true APC did all that for those children. APC crazy godfather, Oba of Lagos has showed his bigotry side. Put him under control before he rained on your parade. The more you know. A word is enough for the wise. I ‘ m Just saying.

All this is propaganda. Politicians using people as pawns in their game. Anyway, as for me, I’m voting Ambode on Saturday.

    THAT OBA OF LAGOS
Some people really amuse me. Give them small power, they think they’re God.
I have been under the impression that Obas/Traditional rulers are meant to be intelligent and exposed. I therefore find it curious when the utterances and actions of one in such position appear to par with the actions and gibberish of motorpark touts.
Need we remind the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, that we are not in Neanderthal times. We are in 21st Century Nigeria, where individuals do not go about conquering and ‘owning’ territories. Nigeria belongs to Nigerians and under her constitution, the Nigerian has freedom of choice to live wheresoever he/she pleases, without hinderance; and to vote for whomsoever he/she chooses, without undue interference.
With regard to freedom to exercise one’s electoral franchise, if such were not so, then the Nigerian government would have no need to expend taxpayers funds, energy and time organizing elections. It would simply approach the likes of the Oba, to select for it, requisite manpower to man positions of governance.
Perhaps the Oba imagines that he is still in the police force; or he believes that the constant adulation and homage rendered him since taking up the traditional stool has elevated him beyond the realm of flesh and blood.
Let me then point it out to him that the Igbo are a different breed of people. Whatever else they may be known for, theirs is a democratic spirit that can be considered innate. Go look up Igbo history. It is such that a local adage exists which translates as, ‘The Igbo have no king’. After God, the Igbo man is king unto himself. He practiced democracy before Nigeria came into existence. No MERE MORTAL dictates law to him beyond the well entrenched laws of his land. If Lagos state has been excised from the map of Nigeria, I’m not aware.
Indeed, the Oba’s claim to the territory of Lagos, in the sense that he has the power to decree and ram decisions down the throats of those within the jurisdiction, smacks of treason.
I call on the appropriate authorities to take note.
Pray, oga Oba, which inch of the territory of Lagos do you have authority (or even the military might) to defend, if the need should arise? To what extent can you even defend your stool if challenged by the state? With people making comments like these, do we need to look far for murderers in our midst?
I have resorted to curtailing my words here because the Holy Bible mandates that we refrain from berating elders. The elders , nevertheless should strive to respect themselves if they desire respect in return; and nobody should give me that humdrum about an apology from the palace.
One will conclude by stating that the Oba has inadvertently succeeded in advancing the cause of the PDP by his irresponsible comments. It’s really unfortunate how one man’s careless statements can undermine the great impact another (the incumbent governor) has made in his state over a period of 8 years.
Many who would have ordinarily voted APC (particularly those yet sitting on the fence)will likely put PDP into consideration, at this point, even if it’s just to see that thing the Oba says he will do.
I am FULL FLEDGED IGBO…24KARAT! Let the Oba bring on his VERY WORST by the time I finish casting my vote on Saturday. Lagos state had better stash away enough funds to clear its Lagoon if its Oba is not to contend with the stench of it, going forward. Nevertheless, the likes of me will be used to teach him and the likes of him the true fear of God in heaven, if and when the stage is set.

Big mouth , how can you talk to a prominent oba of lagos like that… Haaba! See grieve words o. Why not get your self a life jacket before he drown you all into the atlantic ocean to save yourself across niger river back to your home land. Quite easy hah.. Those words are inappropriate. it’s very obvious that you people loose respect for your elderly one, After all, am not suprise, just the same way you people trash your igwe of igbo land and now you want to rubbish the oba of yoruba land whereas the yoruba are not like you. Certainly, some igbos like you are very ungrateful.
