The Buhari & Amaechi Handshake That Has Got People Talking – PHOTO

This photo of president-elect Muhammadu Buhari and Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi shaking hands has been circulating online and it has got everyone talking – and we are wondering why.

A summary of ongoing online discourse of the handshake is as follows:

a. Some say governor Amaechi looks subservient in the photo

b. Others say Amaechi’s posture is a sign of deference to Buhari, indicating his respect for him

However, we think it’s just a harmless handshake. What do you think?

I think it is a harmless handshake with a bit of ‘awe’ thrown in for good measure…….

      April 16, 2015 at 11:19 am

I think it’s none of the above.

It is neither subservience nor deference.

Its is pure eye service (which Amaechi has been about from time immemorial).

Let him have the slightest hitchwith Buhari, then you will see his true character come out.

How do greet people naturally older than you….in your culture?

    • HausaMadam

      April 16, 2015 at 11:25 am

It’s a sign of respect in the North!

You say “rai’n ka ya dade” translated as : May your life be long (my spelling in Hausa is atrocious) and you either shake hands with the person your greeting is directed to or slightly bow lifting up you forearm.

Nigerians are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Isn’t that Ararume? Has he already jumped to APC? It means his in-law Theodore Orji will soon join him.

      April 16, 2015 at 11:23 am

yes oo it is him Ararume…d man na silent prostitute

      April 16, 2015 at 11:31 am

And that’s how APC will become the new PDP.

    • Dee

      April 16, 2015 at 11:48 am

Aaah! Now I see why Ararume’s daughter @makybenson was all over the presidential elections on Instagram.

Throughout the elections, she provided enough spreadsheets and analysis for a PHD holder to applaud her. Plus her comments showed she was clearly for Buhari. I admired her at the time, thinking her dad was a strong PDP member and she was standing for what she believed in and not what will benefit her and her family.

Alas, my admiration was for naught. I will await the ministerial appointments…we will probably see his name on the list. Oh well…

      April 16, 2015 at 12:48 pm

Dee, I wondered too. Until I saw a picture of her and Ararume on her IG and thought hmmmmmn, ah ok. We can’t help who our parents are, both soooooo many things made sense once I came about the realization. She is still a lovely girl though but her and Adanna Ohakim kinda rub me the wrong way now. Sorry, but that is my opinion. I guess this is the change Maky was talking about. Daddy don move from PDP to APC, sharp Buhari ass licker, pikin too join the change bandwagon. Politics in Nigeria just reminds me of taking off your clothes at the end of the day and wearing a fresh set the next morning. You are the still the same person, and yet their children will come and be talking one thing. Sipping my tea and waddling around the house.

That’s why people say vote for the candidate & not the political party. Both parties have corrupt members. Same shit different toilet. But Nigerians make so much noise that they forget to think before acting.
The people in these major parties are basically the same. The same mothereffas in PDP are moving to APC. When APC is no longer the reigning party, these same things will move to PDP. Most just want power & money. No loyalty here. If APC produces more useless leaders, trust Nigerians to jump on the PDP ship again. Sheep a.k.a followers.

Abeg jor… Nigerians like creating issues out of non-issues. Most Nigerians prostrate etc for people much older than them. Buhari, i’m sure is old enough to be Amaechi’s father. I believe it was a harmless gesticulation of respect and nothing else hiss

    • Jen

      April 16, 2015 at 1:31 pm

I’ve seen some of these governors & men older than Goodluck Jonathan’s wife kneel down to greet her. Well, that will change when she’s no longer the first lady. The ass kissing will be transferred to Aisha Buhari who is very young. 44 yrs old.
Didn’t Chimamanda also say a popular male writer in Nigeria knelt down to greet her? This is about power & ass kissing. People will do anything to be on the good side of influential people

Lol I have to say i was a huge fan of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi…… I am still a fan (but not as huge as before)……. he started off well and lost it along the line and sometimes I worry for him, he tends to look disturbed….. Chibuike I truly hope you get that thing you are looking for and have peace of mind soon. stand up like a man in position of power,, what is this?

All i can see is a looser, after using the media to confuse Nigerians he on ground in Rivers state , loosing the Presidential, all seat in senate and Reps, Governorship, and almost all seat in State house of Assembly, he had to pledge his loyalty in Shame by bowing his head…so he can still get a Position in GMB! Administration…Mumu Governor shey you don spend all the states funds doing APC campaign your eye don clear….

LOOOOOL e pain una ooh!!! Amaechi keep soaring high jor!. His mission was to unseat his clueless brother and he achieved it. He made history. Please don’t eat our heart out. Amaechi won big in this election and get prepared to see him around for the 4 years..yup at the top!! Federal things!!….Pele ooohh!!

    • Taipan

      April 16, 2015 at 1:56 pm

@ Missy J , you should be ashamed a clueless president ruled you for 6yrs, you need medicated glasses because you can only see someone soaring high by loosing his entire state to an opposition, the votes are there, check the figures….y can’t you ask your self y ameachi’ wants to die as he lost Rivers, let me remind you bcos i know you are ignorant, APC has 2 states ( Lagos and others) while PDP has 3 Juicy states (River Akwa Ibom and Delta) the Allocation that comes to these 3 PDP states is more than all 19 states won by the APC, Hope you know the only Export Terminal is in Rivers state as well….at the federal level there are alot of big wigs battling for one contract or the other so Ameachi won’t have the luxury to lash on Rivers resources… so he should take his APC to ABJ and battle with Tinubu and others

Abeg wentin you kn0w? You are the one that is clueless. Amaechi is not loyal to anybody. He is self-centered. Mark today, Amaechi will turn against Buhari and APC the same way he turned against Odili and Wike. These men fought PDP in Rivers State and reinstated Amaechi as the Governor of Rivers State during his first term.

    April 16, 2015 at 12:17 pm

Buhari is not Ameachi’s mate, hence he will have to respect him. Simple

Clearly Amaechi and Buhari no be mates. Why won’t he show respect when greeting Buhari.

Me i think the pic was circulated more to stir the pot on Ararume’s decamping. That is what happens when political parties in naija don’t have ideologies. Na to move to the winning side in 3, 2, 1, …….

@Taipan correct o. Oyel things. Being rich no be population things. Let the resource make sense biko. Oyel na very great natural resource. Now if Imo too can just go to either Apga or Pdp. So that that mumuish Rochas ewu hausa can just go and rest. He should go to AbJ and be carrying files up and down for Gmb. E go fit am.

Nigerians will be acting like fashion police reading meanings into everything like they are psychic yet just like the fallen fashion police they can’t predict the outcome of presidential election they can only predict the after math. In my opinion that’s myopic stop the hate.
