Tonto DikehNollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has kept the world guessing about her relationship status in the past few months but she definitely cleared things up this past weekend when she had her introduction ceremony to Oladunni Obasanjo Churchill in her hometown in Port-Harcourt.

Her hubby, Oladunni is said to be one of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo‘s children.

From prayers from her grandmother to sharing a kiss with her grandmother, Tonto Dikeh, who has since changed her name to Mrs. Tonto Wigo Dikeh-Churchill on social media, looked extremely happy and joyful at the ceremony.

The BN family is happy for the couple and we wish them the very best.

See official photos from the introduction below.

So, is the guy OBj son’s or not before baba comes after you guys. I thought the guy Tonto dike was dating is Igbo. Anyway, congrats to her. She looks really happy even though I can’t say the same for the guy

I LOVE TONTO, AND I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT HER, INCLUDING HER CRAZINESS… I MEAN, LEAVE IT TO TONTO TO WEAR A SEE THROUGH DRESS FOR HER INTRODUCTION, AND KISS HER GRANDMA ON THE LIPS (AFRICAN SPEAKING).,
I ALSO LOVE HOW SIMPLE HER INTRODUCTION WAS, NO NEED FOR PLENTY NOISE.
BUT AT THE RISK OF BEING A KILLJOY, I DONT SEE ANY CONNECTION OR CHEMISTRY BETWEEN BOTH OF THEM, THE MAN DOESN’T LOOK EXCITED AT ALL. I MEAN, LOOK AT THIS PICTURE… http://www.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/BN-Exclusive-Tonto-Dikeh-Introduction-Ceremony-August-2015-BellaNaija0022.jpg

your brain is chicken-like . ever thought grandma prefers to stay in the house her husband built for her ? my own grandma refused anyone from demolishing her house even though it is crumbling , they had to build another one for her behind hers and she has refused to move in saying it is a house her and her late husband built with their hard earned money . lol

    • Deedara

      August 10, 2015 at 6:24 pm

My grandma was the same, God rest her soul. She bluntly refused to move from her little house in the village despite plenty begging, cajoling and even vexing from my dad and his siblings. She just wouldn’t hear of it. She insisted that she would live and die in her little house, and she did. Sometimes people are just content in the home and environment they are used to.

@me, that is very shallow. Some grandmas prefer to stay in their own home/village. My friend”s mom took her grandma to the US. After 3 months the woman was complaining and raising hell that she wanted to go back to the village that she prefers it there. People’s circumstances differ so if u don’t know people’s circumstances u are better of keeping quite.

So the devil can get married!!!! ( honey metaphorically speaking) I am glad that you have found a partner- no really when a coconut with double hard shells finally finds someone; the person better not break your heart, because the guy might die or both of una. It takes a lot to find love again and really open yourself. Humans work with emotions, logic is just for formality sake. Please take care of Tonto well.

Plus, there are some dyed-in-the-wool grannies of that generation that will still reject the offer of mansion in Lekki with a full roster of domestic staff, in favor of their humble village lifestyle, with its unassuming dwellings and routine physical tasks…

I pray that Tonto enjoys a fulfilling married life ahead. I’m not sure if I missed Blessing in these photos, unless I can’t recognize her anymore? Although, it’s been over a decade now, to be fair.

Adupe o!! for the first time. BN commenters are actually not bashing her.Hmm, trust nigerians its only when one marries and gets pregnant all sins are forgiven. Now you will see everybody being her friend, They will not abuse tonto again. Its the nigerian way.

    • Californiabawlar

      August 10, 2015 at 3:25 pm

I’ve always liked Tonto…i.e. until she opens her mouth or starts typing. She’s beautiful and there’s something genuine about her…genuinely crazy but still genuine. Damn! If only she’ll take the criticism positively and just attend a finishing and acting school, I’ll be her number one fan.
On a separate but not totally unrelated note, folks tend to think getting pregnant would change their lifes…you forget that you’re the one giving the child life and not the other way around….the euphoria can only last long enough and you’ll be back to your old ways.

And with that I formally congratulate Tonto. Babe is about to get harassed for changing her last name after introduction though??

Oh my heart, the picture of her granny praying for her though…*blinks back tears* 🙂

    Okay, as a non-Nigerian I have questions:

    1. What is an Introduction Ceremony officially?

    2. Is it done specifically for people who are on the road to marriage? Or it is just about introducing your family to the one you hope to marry?

    3. Is it done before or after the engagement (the dude asking officially with the ring).

    4. Does doing this mean that we are considered legally married?

    5. What weight does this have?

    Sorry – I am inquisitive! 🙂

    • jasmine

      August 10, 2015 at 3:10 pm

Introduction is just to knock and let them know you want to marry their daughter plus you get your list that day in some places

    • Inspired by Africa

      August 10, 2015 at 3:51 pm

      Thanks for the response! 🙂

But what is the list? Is that the list of gifts to bring to the bride’s family?

    • lbo

      August 10, 2015 at 3:22 pm

Answers to ur question…Firstly an introduction ceremony, is the formal introduction of both parents/family, to unite both families, Secondly it is done for people who are on the road to marriage, you can’t just keep introducing people to your family if you ain’t ready to get married, cos it’s a ceremony for both families, it also includes elderly family members. Thirdly it is done after the engagement, i.e when the guy has actually proposed. 4thly nooo it doesn’t mean you are legally married, as a matter of fact some people do it and end up not getting married. 5, it doesn’t really have any weight, it’s just a tradition in Nigeria, to introduce both family before marriage to know exactly which family their children are getting married to, tribe, religion etc….i think have answered your questions…

    • Inspired by Africa

      August 10, 2015 at 3:53 pm

Indeed you did. Thank you so much for your response. 🙂

    • Nappynekkxx

      August 10, 2015 at 3:29 pm

      To answer your questions
      1) Introduction in Nigeria n Africa i believe is the meeting of both families (the intending couple). The intending grooms family formally makes their intention known, as it is believed that not only 1 person goes to marry a wife. The guy declares his intentions in the presence of his and her family and the bride to be is also asked openly if she is in acceptance and every1 makes merry after of cos the necessary rite to undergo are discussed.

      2) From 1 above, it would be right to say its specifically for those on the road to marriage. Even though introduction doesn’t automatically confirm marriage.

      3) It is done after the proposal with a ring/after both parties have made the decision to spend their lives together.

      4) Introduction doesn’t mean marriage.

      5) In terms of weight?? Hmmm… well, it holds quite some weight as once introduced it is seen as a difficult stage to undo. Parents usually advise their kids to be certain they are ready to go through the entire process as otherwise might bring disrepute to either family.

Dear Inspired by Africa, nothing wrong in being inquisitive. I am no expert but here are some answers to your questions. Hope it helps somewhat.
      1. An introduction ceremony is the official/formal meeting of the parents/family of the couple. It doesn’t matter if they’ve met several time previously but once the couple signify their intention to get married, this formal ceremony is organised to formally introduce the members of both families to one another. You may have heard it said that in Africa, you don’t just marry the individual, you marry the family hence the importance of this ceremony.

      2. Yes, it is done specifically for a couple who are on the road to marriage.

      3. It is definitely done after the guy has proposed to the lady

      4. No, the introduction doesn’t mean you are legally considered married – introduction of itself does not confer marital status on the couple. It is just the 1st step in the traditional marriage rites. Except the couple went to the marriage registry before the introduction.

      5. The weight the introduction ceremony has, is debatable and I think it depends on the tribe. I would say it is very important. How do you get to the traditional marriage rites stage if the family haven’t been formally introduced? How do you plan the wedding proper, pick dates, when the introduction ceremony hasn’t been done? As far as I am aware, in Yoruba and Igbo cultures the introduction ceremony is very important.

Its basically the family of the groom, coming to the bride’s family to introduce themselves as the in laws to be (of course the bride and groom have to be there as well) . It is usually done after the groom asks the bride to marry him (a lot of people propose without rings, so the ring does not have to be involved). Going by just the introduction, you are not considered legally married. In my tradition, the introduction is very very important because this is the only official platform for both sides to meet before the wedding planning begins.. Plus it gives the mothers of the bride and groom a chance to size up their “competition” so that they will know how big their gold, wrappers, or gele will be….lol, just kidding ….maybe not.

Congratulations Tonto, may your marriage be a bed of roses with very manageable thorns.

BN, was this just “introduction”? This lady is from the Niger delta, Rivers state precisely… can you kindly use the appropriate term (preferably in her local dialect) to describe this event so it is clearer. There is a clear difference between introduction and ime -ego or igba- nkwu for example. I say this because I doubt if Tonto changed her last name after ” introduction”. Or was there a court wedding as well?

    • Beeeee

      August 10, 2015 at 4:13 pm

Hey girl, It looks like the introduction. My father had to rent canopies for my own introduction. I was like ” for just introduction?” lol….. Its possible that she just changed her name to her husbands name on social media as i have been seeing lots of engaged girls do these days. Or maybe she has done her court wedding privately

Few days ago, driving thru a street in ikoyi, I saw these two bouncing down the street, holding hands, beginning to end in matching all white outfits….they were unmissable, but u would only recognise them when u got close… she certainly looked fuller (so guessing the pregnancy tale is true), and they just seemed very comfy together, it was nice to see.
-Thinking about the white now- Abi dem don go registry?? Well nothing consine agbero with overload….. I wish them continued happiness. Cheers!

I’ll like to define Introduction the Nollywood way cos she is an actress.
Introduction is when the Suitor come with his father and Ichei(s) to a woman’s house to tell her father that they saw a beautiful flower in his compound and they have come to ‘pluck it’ or as chiwetalu Agu said ‘harvest it’ lol…

I am not a fan but you have to celebrate with those that are celebrating. I am happy for her. Wish her marital bliss.

“when the Suitor come with his father and Ichei(s) to a woman’s house to tell her father that they saw a beautiful flower in his compound and they have come to ‘pluck it’ or as chiwetalu Agu said ‘harvest it’ lol” –

      That is so adorable. 🙂

Tontoh seems to be a very nice and genuine person, and I am very happy for her. The pictures with her grandmother made me emotional. It is obvious that she loves her grandmother and cherishes her dearly. I know it is such a special day for her and for her grandmother as well, and no wonder she blessed them with God’s grace. I wish her all the happiness that marriage brings and abundance of blessings. Congratulation!!

Yes i tink she’s obasanjo’s daughter inlaw cos she sent a post thanking her husband and her father in law former president obj and her mum inlaw n also her dad n step mum. I was equally shocked to hear he’s obj son. Taking a look at his pic confirmed my doubt cos therz a slight resemblance btw dem but mr x is a much more cuter version.

Peaceful and happy. Even though hes oko oloko. Congrats mrs x. The emminient people that will go for the introduction is enough if hes obasanjos son. Ebora owu we are talking about. Its just him and tonto with no relatives. We do not do that in yorubaland.
