Exclusive – Bimpe Onakoya Takes NYFW ’15: Unusual Looks for Gypsy Sport & Clean Makeup for DKNY’s S/S16 Showcase
The Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week for Spring 2016 may have come to a close, but we are still living in all the fun and creativity that took place.
BellaNaija Beauty has been following Artistic Director, Maybelline New York Nigeria – Bimpe Onakoya as she returns to New York for the fashion week, for a few days now. If you’ve missed out on any of it, you can find it all HERE.
She has been creating makeup looks for fashion labels such as Jason Wu, Marissa Webb and more; and now we have all the scoop on makeup she created for 2 more show – Gypsy Sport & DKNY.
For the Gypsy Sport Spring/Summer 2016 sportswear showcase, it was all about messy makeup and unique hairstyles. Bimpe got to meet & create the makeup look for popular albino model, Diandra Forrest who opened the show for Gypsy, pregnant. The looks created for the show were quite different with models sporting faux locs, mo hawks, shaved heads, cropped haircuts and more.

The models got messy makeup and hair that was very eccentric and drew inspiration from all over the world. The makeup was based mainly on messy blue mascara, and messy glossy red lips.
The fashion brand used ‘imperfect models’ showcasing the grunge-inspired sportswear. The looks definitely got people talking as they showcased a very distinct view on sportswear.

Next up Bimpe worked the DKNY showcase which was a very far cry from the Gypsy Sport showcase.
The looks created for DKNY were very cleans and understated, with some models rocking red lips. Their hair was kept very sleek and swept back, which went with the clean and minimal pieces from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2016 offering.
