PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI (R) RECEIVING A SOUVENIR FROM
THE VISITING COMMANDER OF THE U.S. AFRICAN COMMAND, GEN. DAVID
RODRIGUEZ, IN ABUJA ON WEDNESDAY (14/10/15)

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised that by December 2015, Boko Haram will cease to be an “organised fighting force.”

Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, revealed the news via a statement, ThisDay reports.

Adesina also noted that Buhari further told Commander of United States Africa Command, David Rodriguez that:

“We must thank the United States of America for sending training teams and equipment to us. The positive results of our collaboration are evident. Structured attacks by the insurgents have reduced and by the end of the year, we should see the final routing of Boko Haram as an organised fighting force.”

According to the report, Rodriguez responded stating that “he was in the country to strengthen Nigeria/United States  military relations, and also explore further options  for assisting the Multinational Joint Task Force established by Nigeria and her neighbours, to fight Boko Haram.”

Structured attacks have reduced, Yes! but the problem is that covert attacks don’t look like they’re abating anytime soon.

But, let’s keep ignoring countries with experience fighting them,

I am obliged to ask a tactical question. Is it not preferred that the enemy be highly organized from a defense perspective? BH is not organized. In fact they have seemingly deliberate disorganization that is causing them to be both insidious and extremely difficult to predict. Those are two characteristics that organized warfare does not know how to anticipate and deal with. So I wonder, how did baba come to consider them organized? Dem see strategic plan or war diary? I doubt. If you want to win this war, please note this is a war of acute disefranchisement, disempowerment, abject and degrading poverty, rebellion against perceived antagonists defined in terms of whether they “have” or dont, and a power tussle. This war no start today. We ignored it in the Niger Delta and called it all kinds of lovely empathetic names like oil war and Niger Delta MOvement, etc. Same underlying roots and monster causes. Unfortunately, we did not handle that well and the northerners have picked it up. Like with every vice, they are trying to add a higher level of perfection to the art of destruction that is laced with an unquenchable thirst for absolute power. If you want to destroy BH, bring the element of reasoning and certainty to bear in the lives of average Nigerians. IF Nigerians can see the end of the tunnel and have at least 50% confidence it is not an oncoming train, many will prefer not to strap themselves with explosives.

BTW, as we write about IDPs in the north, I know many IDPs from Rivers State. Who has helped them? That is because we dont practice Islam? So we dont stir up a lot of apprehension and fear??. That however is not the reason the south should be ignored. Our crisis has taken on a dimension that is really now a business model that embraces high stakes (and sometimes low stakes) kidnapping and brutality against common people. If you want to stay in PHC, it has to almost be a mandate, not because you love it. When you can no longer visit your village, even with military police because the young men are willing to confront the police in gun battle, is that worse than BH? when you get kidnapped at a spouses funeral, is that peace? When young men take over entire villages and drive elders to PHC, is that better than BH? When they ride their bikes from one end of the village to the other and drop 4-6 bodies per week, and force curfews on people, and preclude people from going to the farms, and force young women to befriend them and forcefully recruit young men who have no escape, is that worse than BH? We are playing with FIRE in this country. As you addressing BH, go and find out why many villages are deserted in Rivers State.

Fellow, this your story about iDPs in Rivers is rather unknown. Is this all in your imagination or is it really happening? If it’s the latter, then please do your expedient duty as a Rivers citizen and write letters to all media houses to draw their attention to the situation. Take pictures you can take and send to Channels TV Eye witness platform – a lot of community stories that are sent there get picked up by relevant authorities and are action ed on. Notwithstanding, it’s rather ridiculous of you to allude tribal meanings to the attention being paid to the BH crisis.
