The notorious ISIS terrorist commonly known  as “Jihadi John” was targeted in a U.S. airstrike on Thursday night in Raqqa, Syria. US authorities say they are “reasonably certain” that he is dead. However, it remains uncertain whether he is actually dead.

The Kuwait-born British citizen, is the executioner often seen in ISIS videos in which hostages are executed.

US Army spokesman, Steven Warren, says the military is still waiting for confirmation on his death, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

“We are reasonably certain that we killed the target we intended to kill, which was Jihadi John,” he said.

Warren said that the US had a great deal of confidence based on intelligence that the target identified was Jihadi John, also known as Kuwaiti born British national, Mohammed Emwazi.

Warren also said the drone strike was a fairly routine operation to kill Emwazi, who he described as a primary recruitment tool for Islamic State.

“This guy was a human animal and killing him is probably making the world a little bit better place‘’, he added.
