Smashed Glass, Horrific Robberies – A Commuter’s blow-by-blow Account in Lagos Traffic this Morning

dreamstime_s_32760416This morning, a series of robberies occurred during the daily morning commute, in the MUSON area of Onikan, Lagos.

The area has heavy traffic every weekday morning, as most workers who live in Lagos ‘mainland’ head to the ‘island’ business district for their jobs.

A popular Twitter voice, @BabatundeCASH, shared the blow-by-blow account on his Twitter page. The Lagos State government has replied as well, promising to increase patrol in the area. Here’s his story:

Others Corroborated his Report and Shared Similar Experiences

Then Lagos State responded

It’s nice that you empathise and sympathise but you need to tell us WHEN are you going to take action ?

The same gang will be there tomorrow so where will the security men arrive?

We promise to, we promise to, everyday we promise to. Can Fashola just please come back and be our governor forever? And it’s not even Christmas yet. Somebody can’t even hangout in the evenings what kind of city is this for pete’s sake. I’m just upset. This our clueless , ‘gods chose him’ Ambode is just annoying. The gods are to blame for this.

This is sad. Seems the best option is to work on the Island and live on the Island and do same for the mainland as well.

And the ‘Governor’ was watching time to take over office, said all sort and in less dan a yr, we have experienced more horrifying issues dan fashola’s last 3 years. No one says he should be perfect but common! The country’s economy presently is soooo …………, everyone is just trying to survive and to make it worse security in Lagos has been a shame. Baba Fash raised a very high standard, u just have to beat him to be a successor, we don’t need just accounting title or skills to govern a state like Lagos, Tinubu certainly didn’t get it right with this, or maybe we should wait and not judge yet.

Honestly it is not enough for the Lagos state government to increase patrol in these areas because even the patrols that intensified at the Eko bridge of recent due to these attacks have waned, as these policemen are not there at all times. The policemen and their vehicles are mostly on the bridge on Mondays especially in the morning but by Friday, there are a few men in uniform and most times none.
The main way to tackle this situation is, the police should work hard in investigating and catching these miscreants because honestly, as soon as the policemen stop patrol (which they would one day) these hoodlums will be out again.
We need scape goats! Criminals who would be caught, paraded and dealt justly with to instil fear into others.
I repeat, it’s not enough to have policemen patrol the area. They should find these criminals and end this violence once and for all.

    Ambode, the turn up king.
Maybe next time on his way back from Quilox, he will stop at Onikan for another photo shoot.
