A female youth corper collapsed on Monday morning while taking part in morning drills at the NYSC orientation camp in Gbakuta Village in Oyo State.

PIC. 14. CORPS MEMBERS EVACUATING THEIR A FEMALE COLLEAGUE THAT COLLAPSED DURING THE EARLY MORNING DRILL, AT NYSC PERMANENT ORIENTATION CAMP, GBAKUTA VILLAGE, ON ISEYIN-OKEHO ROAD, IN OYO STATE ON MONDAY (9/11/15). 7074/9/11/2015/IBRO/BJO/NAN

Immediately the incident occurred, her fellow corpers rushed to carry her away from the camp grounds.

This raises major concerns. Are corpers typically screened by medical professionals on camp grounds before engaging in strenuous physical activities? Some exercises that may be okay for some, may be harmful to others. Also, where were the medical personnel? In an ideal situation, medical personnel should always be on stand by during such drills in case anyone needs emergency medical attention.

Nigeria, we need to take better care of our youth corpers.

    Bravo!
    Hope she’s OK.
Many slumped in my NYSC passing out parade because we were in the Adamawa sun at attention (sometimes at ease) for hours. Not sure whose idea that was. Military folk have some tricks for not fainting easily…

      Abi o.

People will faint anywhere, even in the banking halls. Do we scrap banks then? I would see a need for concern if she fainted and there were no health facilities or first aid to resuscitate her.

And BN, is Oyo NYSC orientation camp in Gbakuta village or Iseyin? Because I served in Oyo state. Did it get moved? Am confus…

Fainting is normal where such activities are carried out. Soldiers faint too at the beginning before they gain tactics to sustain endurance over a long period. However, there is always a standby clinic and an ambulance ready to convey those in need to a full hospital. I don’t see the need for the panic all panic.

No camp administrator wants a corpse on their hands, Or even death during the service year, so they take corpers health in and out of camp seriously.

I’m in oyo state camp. No one was rushed to the clinic. first aid workers versus red cross are always in the field. stating from the above picture it looks untrue bcos morning drills are usually b4 day break.
