Okonjo-Iweala Condemns Oshiomhole’s Statements that She Should be Prosecuted for $2.1 Billion Arms Deal Saga

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala - Time Magazine - April 2014 -

Former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is condemning Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole‘s statements that she should be prosecuted for “approving spending of funds from the excess crude account without appropriation by the National Assembly” pertaining to the $2.1 billion arms deal saga.

Okonjo-Iweala’s team released the following statement in response to Oshiomhole:

Former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has requested the Federal Government to call Edo State Governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole to order over the Governor’s recent efforts to link her name to the alleged $2.1 billion arms issue.

The Minister stressed that she has absolutely nothing to do with the issue.

She stated that it is an abuse of public office, the judicial process and her human rights for Governor Oshiomhole whom she stopped from taking a highly suspicious N15 billion loan to make false allegations against her while hiding behind the constitutional immunity granted state governors.

As recently confirmed by the Debt Management Office, professional analysis showed that Oshiomhole’s loan request which was based on using low interest World Bank loan to offset high interest commercial loans would have left Edo state with a heavy debt burden and the the state would have found it very difficult to pay back.

She said that it is unconscionable for the Governor to embark on a campaign of lies against her because she thwarted his dubious loan request.

She described the Governor’s unsubstantiated allegations as a cynical personalization of the anti-corruption campaign to achieve ignoble objectives.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala therefore put Oshiomhole and his ilk on notice that she has briefed her lawyers and that she is ready to explore all legal means, local and international, to defend her name against corrupt and compromised persons.

It has become a pattern of behavior that each time Dr. Ngozi OKonjo-Iweala is internationally recognized, Governor Oshiomole and his cohorts embark on a cynical and devious ploy of trying to pull her down locally. Just last night, December 1st, Dr Okonjo-Iweala was honored at a high profile event attended by Vice President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton. Dr Okonjo Iweala was honored alongside Michael Bloomberg, Bill and Melinda Gates and Mo Ibrahim for their contributions to global development and humanity.

Gov Oshiomole and his cohorts should realize that their ill-motivated attempts to taint Dr Okonjo Iweala’s reputation will never succeed!

Clearly @ gorgeous you did not read where Dasuki said that the funds came from NNPC? Or is it that you have refused to read? By the way which countries allow arms purchases to be openly noted in their budgets? Not even the U.S. does that. But anyway I am certain the misguided and intellectually lazy people that then ikes of Oshiomole and El Rifai deceive with their lies will sooner than later eat their hearts out as the woman OkonjoIweala keeps soaring.

You are wrong about US defense budgeting and details of arms purchases. But that’s beside the point. The ex minister resorted to a non issue in this discourse to deflect from her possible guilt. Your country lost 7 billion dollars to a scam and possibly suffered many preventable deaths in addition to a battered image and you rush to the defense of the perpetrators who obviously have nothing credible to say in their own defense? Shame.

NOI Please Sue this short ill-mannered dwarf for defamation and demand $2billion damages so he’ll learn to bridle his tongue and not just go around accusing people without facts. In a sane country people like Oshiomole wouldn’t be qualified to govern a county talk more of a state. he’s just throwing tantrums, behaving like a little child whose toy was seized for bad behavior. he’s sounding like a broken record. Shouting corruption ever day when you are corruption personified.

How can you be the “COORDINATING MINISTER OF THE ECONOMY” for 5 years (a title and role given to you at your insistence during negotiation) and all these illegal acts happened on your watch? It’s either you were a participant and therefore A CRIMINAL, or you weren’t aware therefore GROSSLY INCOMPETENT. Either way, you can claim to be innocent. I believe if you where aware of corruption in government, you should have raised alarm or resigned like Sanusi did.

The biggest pain people like you are in is that she did not resign! So evil people like Oshiomole and El Rufai cannot paint her as the minister that resigns and runs away when things look tough because of course she had resigned from Obj’s govt. worse still the pain with which you write your vitriol indicates that you like reckless Oshiomole have found not a single wrong doing against this woman. So just go and take several seats abeg. Let Oshiomole go and viagrarize his Lola. And tell Buhari to stop junketing around the whole world like a tourist President. OkonjoIweala will keep being the toast of the more serious, enlightened and intelligent international community. Mediocrity the kind you celebrate is not in her bloodline. Only excellence is. Poor you.

BN how come you’ve not carried the Dokpesi update where he stated what he collected the money for?

    December 3, 2015 at 7:40 am

Its only in a country like Nigeria that Okonjo can still speak, she is a big shame to herself.
A whole prime minister defacto will tell us she doesn’t know how the money went, even if it was from NNPC account, was it not still under her watch.
Madam keep quiet, you failed us as a woman you shamed us , you’re no different from Dieziani and Stella.
Abanilaye jeee people, olorun wa maa da fun yin.

And now the ball is in your court ( APC ), Oshimole.

Where is the change you promised?
Or is it a change for worst????
