“No Air”! Barbara Onianwah, Jumai Shaba & More Team Up for an Underwater Fashion Shoot

No Air Underwater Shoot - BellaNaija - Januray2016002In the mood for an underwater shoot? We know we are!

We present “No Air“- an underwater fashion shoot starring popular beauty blogger Barbara Onianwah (Barbara1923) and Nollywood actress, Jumai Shaba. Shot by photographer, Deji Olatunde & Tolu Ajayi with pieces by Obijie, the shoot shows both models looking ethereal and pretty while moving around in the water.

Barbara has this to say about the shoot;

So 5 supremely creative people got together to do ” No Air” an ad hoc underwater fashion shoot on a whim and without a budget over a weekend. These are the results.

“What happens when dreams are stifled and freedom inhibited? There is stagnation, there is breathlessness, there is NO AIR. You gasp for air, you struggle for release but there is no way you can get these without fighting your way out. There are communities in and outside Nigeria who struggle with this phenomenon in more ways than one.

That is the story behind this project. We hope to get the attention of interested individuals and organisations in the full scale of this project.

It took us 24 hours to execute this test shoot, but we did it and it was done – out of passion, out of nothing, out of a desire and that’s all it took.

    Nice Concept, even though some of the pose weren’t well executed. I love the flowing dresses and my best shots are the last three looks, especially the one with the lady’s arm to her ear.
    Thats the killer pose and photographers best shot.

    She looked scared in some of it. overall nice concept and styling. kudos to the designer as well as the overall team.

    The quality of these pictures are unbelievably awful. The technique is also bad, look at that sorry excuse for a split image. Get a high-end mirrorless or DSLR camera for goodness’ sake. And some training too.

    Beautiful concept, poor execution.
    They have a wonderful story behind the shoot but unfortunately I couldn’t see the story through the shoot let alone connect to it.

    What a pity. The poor girls look like they were struggling. Especially Aunty in the red. It’s really not by force.

    Bellanaija commenters aren’t the kindest, lol. Please don’t be discouraged with the project or whatever message you intend to pass with the shoot. I can relate to your message that when we find ourselves in inconvenient and stifling positions, we tend to be more aggressive in digging ourselves out of the uncomfortable situation thereby attaining success.
