Well deserved win by Stephanie Linus! Plus she looked amaze balls! The evening ended on a high note. Yayyyyy!

      March 6, 2016 at 1:12 am

I agree! I can’t wait to see Dry… Heard it’s amazing. However, my problem is that Genevieve is always winning some stoopid crap and she’s been acting the same damn role for the last 15 years… Nothing challenging at all, “only a woman that can speak English” role lol… Like why bother, road to yesterday ko, road to last week ni. #mythoughts oo biko

      March 6, 2016 at 9:57 am

Shut up and stop calling Geneveive names , do u think she needs the AMVCA best actress that bad??? Ur not ashamed of degrading ppl who practically made a platform for the girl u just acknowledged!!!

I a agree with you, I was disappointed in the movie ‘road to yesterday’ it’s just overrated

Congrats to All the Winners.. I am so happy for Adesua Etomi, Folarin Falana and my beautiful Lady Stephanie Linus.

I was about to hate on genevieve if she had won over stephanie but at least they saved the best for the last. BTW Genevieve looked beautiful tonight.

It was a nice program but I have some critic

    – Ik what was that about? Its obvious you are not a flavour fan but that comment was totally unnecessary, how would you feel if someone insulted your craft? The AMVCAs found him worthy enough to perform.

    – Osas and Gbenro? Kilode… You guys looked lovely but Gbenro why did you not want Osas to talk? the babe decided to grab the envelope by fire by force…

    – that first comedian talking about port harcourt was dry. The second guy salvador was really good

    – the south African musician was the best performer followed by yemi. AMVCA work on your sound system a bit or is it the artist that are not singing well? I though the mike had problems until Zonke came on stage and slayed.

    – Akin Omotosho and that chinese lady how far?

Majority slayed in the style department. Once again so happy for Folarin and Stephanie

    • Tosin

      March 7, 2016 at 7:38 am

I hope to watch some of these films someday.
Re: Gbenro Osas, hmmm, Gbenro, you’re my Yoruba brother. No. Dey no dey oppress woman o. If you no wan make dem fire you. You need to understand how great Osas is already and just find your way to complement or leave that whole space alone. Me I’m sha not calling her Osas Ajibade , I don’t believe in messing up a grown woman’s name just because of a ceremony or whatever. Husband too, “carry” Ighodaro, and if you can not, then you see what we’re saying. Anyway, I didn’t watch, I’m just over-analyzing because they’re celebs and they’re fine so it’s now my business looool.

How does a movie not win from its part if Africa ( west africa ) but win Best movie in Africa overall??? What’s this compensation awards? Am I the only one this doesn’t make sense to?

    • Jenny

      March 6, 2016 at 2:20 am

You’re the only one. You’re making an issue out of nothing. Plus, the best movie overall also won in other categories. Let me also remind you: THIS IS VIEWER’S CHOUCE.

      March 6, 2016 at 3:34 am

If followed the award u would v known ‘Best movie-west Africa ‘ is based on votes while overall best movie is picked by selected heavy weight in the industry.

    • Anu

      March 6, 2016 at 9:27 am

Thank you, that makes more sense coz I also wondered how a movie that didn’t win in its region could win best over all. Best in the region viewers choice, best over all professional choice

    • Quiss

      March 6, 2016 at 10:46 am

All movies and categories are based on votes, by the viewer’s. It has always been so. Please don’t say what you’re unsure of.

    • David

      March 7, 2016 at 1:56 am

Mr Mrs Quiss kindly keep quiet. The technical categories like screenplay, editing, costumes AND Best Overall Movie are decided by professionals. The rest are based on votes.

Voltron. Best picture is always the biggest award for the night in any country or award, hence Steph’s picture. I know you are happy your goddess won but please make we see road.

    March 5, 2016 at 10:14 pm

Congrats to all the winners! The folks that were celebrated last year are #nowhere to be found on this year’s edition. I was expecting AMVCA favourites like OC Ukeje, Mike Ezu and Nse Etim to pick up some awards.
That clearly shows it’s quite a fair competition and a credible award show.
But wait o! This Adesuwa has kissed her way to an award. Does she ever act a movie where she would Kiss the male actors with that her Pat Utomi nose. Na wa.

  11. Made

    March 5, 2016 at 10:14 pm

Last year’s show was better. The energy was just too low haba. The Ugandan comedian Salvador was the highlight for me…kept flipping to see Watford vs Leicester in between. Really dry awards ceremony. No offense to Mrs Linus

    March 5, 2016 at 10:42 pm

I am happy that Stephanie Linus won an award I watched her movie “dry” and I was so impressed. But Genevieve I would like to see her in more challenging role.not just the wife of the rich guy

    • Nwanma

      March 5, 2016 at 11:38 pm

Basically, actors like Genevieve,RMD,Segun Arinze and Rita are gradually heading to Veteran status in nollywood. It’s not easy to come from the days of ‘Grab your copy’ movies to a new nollywood era and still act movies and stay relevant. Some of their contemporaries have fallen of the radar. That being said, i have seen Gen play all sorts of roles in the previous years, let’s just say we want to see her in more challenging roles in this ‘New nollywood era’. I’m happy people like Stephanie,Rita and Gen are already embracing this new industry,it not really familiar to most of them….

    • kate

      March 6, 2016 at 1:47 am

The three ladies Gen, Steph n Rita are all product of Igbo…we rock

  20. honi

    March 5, 2016 at 11:01 pm

That was so unfair to the big actors ,Amvca always like use more popular actors to promote their awards ,finally give it to upcoming actors, they should have a category for upcoming actors. They way things went today, the big stars might shun next year award. How can dkd and adesuwa win over mike, majid, van, segun, Genevieve, Nse, .If it’s actually for viewers voting and talents.

    • Shandi

      March 6, 2016 at 2:27 am

I’m sorry, you guys need to invest in wisdom.
      1. This is viewer’s choice. The viewer’s decide by voting.
      2. There is something in life called change.
      3. You do not expect the same set of people to get awards all the time.
      4. New faces and upcoming actors should be given an opportunity; especially if/when they’re exceptional.

Finally, they (old actors) can shun the next award if they so desire (all in your head though). There’s something called “growth” and you should get familiar with it. I’m so over these ridiculous comments.

  21. mrs chidukane

    March 5, 2016 at 11:19 pm

I screamed and ran around like a lunatic when they called Stephanie! Dry deserves that award and more! Even Genevieve’s acceptance speech was shaky because I believe she knew it too. That movie is a must watch please if you haven’t, make out time to see it. The girl in the movie deserves a best actress nomination. I have never seen a Nollywood movie with such a good child actor. All in all, great show. Ik’s dig at Flavor was so unnecessary.

    • Tayo

      March 6, 2016 at 1:15 am

I think he said the dig in a joking manner, it wasn’t meant to be offensive.

    • Dinma Caruso

      March 6, 2016 at 2:01 am

Lol……I thought I was the only one that did the Tom Cruise on my couch! was so elated when Stephanie’s name was called out. Dry is our Nigerian story, real and deep. Congrats to her and everyone else in her category.

    • Simon Says

      March 8, 2016 at 11:10 am

“Real and deep”… seriously??? Well, we probably didn’t watch the same movie. Dry was a hot disjointed mess that perpetuated the whole “Africa is a country” trope from start to finish and threw so many MDGs at the audience I couldn’t keep count. Anyway, that’s why our industry won’t grow because of the lackluster mediocrity we churn out daily as opposed to the progressive art type movies where we’re not spoon fed every single detail of the film. AND what made me laugh about the movie the mst was when the title was uttered in the most unbelievable piece of dialogue written…”Now I’m dry!” SMDFH!!!

    • Bola

      March 6, 2016 at 4:26 pm

It was a joke, and the audience laughed. That’s how Ik is. I think you taking it personal is unnecessary. It’s not an issue.

    • Ezinne Osuagwu

      March 7, 2016 at 9:50 am

I thought I was the only one who noticed how she kept emphasising that it was fair because it was by voting blah blah, she knew it!

  24. keechi

    March 6, 2016 at 12:06 am

Biko chelu…are you telling me that Daniel K. Daniel abi whatever his name is did better than all those amazing actors that were in the same category?? I find that hard to believe…but all the same congrats! To all the winners as well (I was so rooting for my girl Adesua. She’s a star!)

  25. aikay

    March 6, 2016 at 12:32 am

@honi tnk you for speaking my mind, having watched the AMVCA for three years now I can clearly say that it is an award for new nollywood and forget that viewer’s choice nonsense cos Genny and majid would have won cos they have more followers and fans. They intentionally nominate the mega stars to help them hype the award and finally give it to one of Osy ukeje’s friends. If I had to predict next years winners it will be lilian esoro and wale ojo. And I wonder how DRY became the movie of the yr wen it did not even win in any of the other catergories that it was nominated. I felt they just had to compensate steph for her effort and also genny too for rubbing her off her rightful award of best actress. To me d best part was d red carpet and that is what I will be looking forward to next yr and not the main event cos I kinda have lost value for the award itself.

    • susa

      March 6, 2016 at 2:01 am

Aww, but Genny is not a good actress. Deal with it.

    • Dinma Caruso

      March 6, 2016 at 2:04 am

Come on, Dry was deserving, at the least.

    • Shandi

      March 6, 2016 at 2:34 am

Genevieve would never have won. This is viewer’s choice, the viewer’s vote, Genevieve has an unpleasant attitude and she is not very loved. She lost the 1st ever AMVCA in 2013 to Jackie Appiah. Jackie Appiah herself was shocked; she didn’t expect to win. Also, get your facts right. Dry won in more than one category, not just best overall movie. Stop saying what you’re unsure of. You have forgetten this award show is decided by the viewer’s and by voting, else you won’t be talking nonsense. People should do more voting and less analysis; maybe their favorite stars will win.

    • George

      March 6, 2016 at 7:59 am

Shandi ur not getting the point, I think dry deserves best movie overall but which movie wins dat after grabbing just best makeup and costume( dats questionable ) and losing out on best PICTURE, WRITER, DIRECTOR, cinematograpy, SOUND EDITOR ETC it never happens so it seems it was given as consolation after being cheated off its rights!!! SECONDLY, eventhough ADESUWA is a good actress there is no way she wins an award in viewers choice over genevieve( ESPECIALLY DIS YEAR CUZ GENNYLANDERS CAMPAIGN WAS STRONG, the first year to jackie I understand cuz she didn’t even campaign neither did ppl even know of the nomination) ANOTHER QUESTIONABLE AWARD IS DKD AWARD FOR BEST ACTOR ( THERE IS NO WAY HE GOT MOST VOTES OVER MIKE, MAJID, VAN, etc) SO I CONCLUDE BY SAYING THOSE VOTING CATEGORIES ARE NOT SORELY BASED ON VOTING

    • Quiss

      March 6, 2016 at 10:49 am

      George, please sit down.
No matter how “strong” your campaign is, the AMVCA awards is decided by voting; the viewer’s. Simple ABC. Enjoy the week ahead. Deuces!

    • Shandi

      March 6, 2016 at 2:36 am

Best Costume Design – Uche Nancy for “Dry”

    • NANA

      March 9, 2016 at 1:39 am

And Dry also won best lightening or something like that. I know Dry won in 3 categories.

    • jhennique

      March 6, 2016 at 8:43 am

Aikay pls go chop. All these pple don chop belleful

  26. Nwanma

    March 6, 2016 at 6:45 am

It’s all in your head. You are the one that thinks that Genevieve is not loved. Genevieve is Nollywood foremost screen goddess in and out of Africa and she is quite influential. There is no gainsaying that AMVCA is vested in upcoming actors where they are given opportunity to compete with established actors. These new actors have a new/young fan base and that follow and vote them. If you follow the awards of previous years, you would understand my point. When it gets to the real African awards-AMAA then the real heavy weights like Afolanya, Ramsey, Ozokwor and Clarion Abiola are nominated and awarded. All these upcoming actors wouldn’t even smell it.

    • Quiss

      March 6, 2016 at 10:51 am

She is very loved indeed that’s why she lost best actress 2nd time in a row.

    • George

      March 6, 2016 at 1:15 pm

MR QUISS OR IS IT MISS, U TELL ME TO SIT DOWN WHEN U DONT EVEN NO MUCH ABOUT THE AWARD AFTER SAYING ALL MOVIES AND CATEGORIES ARE DETERMINED BY VOTES( only the top 4 drama and comedy acting cate along side best movies from west, east south and local languages are based on voting)

    • Bola

      March 6, 2016 at 4:28 pm

George, please ago and relax. The show ended last night. Genevieve’s PA, how much is she paying you? Always ranting on all posts related to Genevieve. She lost, she lost, deal with it.

Didn’t watch the show but here’s my take. What’s all the hate about Genevieve about? If it was really viewers choice Award, Genny would have won hands down. Even with all the presumed hate, she is still queen, she is still popular and the young generations darling, her colleagues look up to her. That being said, I am happy Adesuwa won, it’s time to pave way for new generation of stars especially among the female actors. After the Gennys, Omotola’s and Rita Dominic’s era we haven’t really seen big female stars. Nse is just an exception. I think the media should pay attention to Adesua so we see more of her. She should be photographed at every event and invited to every show. These are the pros of being best female, like Jennifer Lawrence was forced down our throats. What’s all the speculations about Genny acting just the rich wife role? When were y’all born? How can we forget Ijaele and rest of them? She was very versatile in the past, you don’t expect her to feature in Asaba movies or struggle for roles with Adesuwa and co. Maybe most producers can’t even afford her, she needs to produce better movies so she can take the lead role like Stephanie did with Dry. I think this year’s award was fair. I am happy for Stephanie and her speech was remarkable. We need to tell the African stories as they are.

You have idea of what you’re saying, because it’s viewer’s choice is the reason she didn’t win. Groupies and fans are two different things. Unsurprising, this is the second time she’s losing in this category.

if you’re a leading actor, you should be in great projects doing great work. not photographed at every show, that is maybe for models – they get paid for photographing well. let’s try and focus.

You guys are hiding my comment! There is God!
Anyway, this responds is for people that use AMVCA as a criteria for judging best and worst actors. No! There is a reason why it’s called a viewers choice award. Viewers and fan base get to vote who they like in a movie based on certain sentiments and not necessarily based on acting skills.
AMVCA majorly sponsored by Amstel malta is basically about throwing the spotlight on new and emerging talents in the movie industry;thereby giving them the platform to compete with established actors. These new actors demonstrate the freshness, vibracy and image of New nollywood and they have young fan base that go all out for them. It’s almost like alluding that Burnaboy sings better than Fela cos he appeals to youths of this era. This is just a choice award not the African oscars,b/cos these new actors would be hardly recognized in the AMAAs.
I will pick people like Genny, Joke Silva, Ezuruonye, Ramsey and Liz Benson as better actors cos they are an embodiment of what African actors/movies should be,not some Quasi Mimicry of day time American Tv which is mostly a characteristics of these new nollywood actors.

I am so happy for Kemi ‘Lala’ she has really come a long way. Adesuwa too, her acceptance speech was amazing! Finally, so happy for Stephanie Linus, I can’t wait to watch the movie Dry. Best awards so far!

  31. Adas

    March 6, 2016 at 10:15 am

Exactly my point! I don’t know what the hate is about. This is just a platform for viewers to pick who they want not an overall Criteria for who is the best actor.
For those hating on Genevieve, where were you when Nigeria/Africa was enjoying the diverse roles of Genny from a Poor widow,Gold digger, blind student and housewife etc??
Even girls like Mercy Johnson,Adesuwa, bimpe etc look up to her. She is still and will remain the Queen of nollywood. This is a different era of nollywood and i’m glad she is still relevant. How many producers can afford Genny sef? She has paid her dues. I refuse to use the little achievements of new comers to spite people that have been there from the start and are still embracing change inspite of themselves!

You need to relax, not everything is hate. Is that the only word in you guys vocabulary? She lost, she lost. People vote for who they want and they voted for Adesua and Dry, please deal with it. If Genevieve won you won’t be talking about hate. Channel your energy elsewhere, it’s only an awards show. Clearly she isn’t Africa’s favorite as this is the 2nd time she’s losing best actress.

Highlight of the Eve for me was Bukky Ajayi winning her award, her speech almost made my entire family tear up, second runner up, was Steph Linus winning For Dry….the others well, at least the show kept us on our sit till the end #lol

@Nne you actually voiced out my thoughts on IKs comment concerning flavors performance. I didn’t like it either. It didn’t portray good MC.

Congrats Adesa Etomi.. you’re such a beauty with brain. Keep it up girl.. you will go places by the grace of God
Congrats to Mrs Linus, I was so overwhelmed when DRY was announced as the Best Overall Movie , and that your speech also nailed it. I love you Mrs Steph Linus.

Yes o! Very loved and admired.
Don’t spite her to magnify upcoming actors. These new actors will not make it through the real Oscars- African Movie Academy Awards- AMAA. So this is a big deal for them. Relax! It’s just for viewers and groupies.
People like Genny and RMD wouldn’t die over a Viewers choice award. The end- AMAA justifies the means!

It’s very obvious you are uncultured and uncivilized otherwise you wouldn’t be rude to people that have a different opinion about Genevieve Nnaji.
You need to learn how to counter statements without insulting people.
Yes,i still stand by my word. Genevieve represent the fine nollywood of yesteryears and she has seen it all. She wouldn’t lose sleep over a viewers award that caters for New faces and AMAA-Oscar is not for these new actors.
    Be Civil!!

If you’re civilized, you should be exposed to know that not everyone will think and have the same mindset like you. People have preferences. You were saying some bs earlier about how the new actors won’t go far and make the AMAAs and Oscars, all cause your idol Genny lost? Now, that’s being very civilized and cultured, right? I think you should also get a life and stop ranting. She didn’t win, she didn’t win. Aren’t you tired? The awards are over and the winners are at home resting. You need to have a new mindset and understand that the only constant thing in life is change and one can’t have a position forever. Genevieve is no mini god, she has her fellow old colleagues just as good as she is and even better, and there are new colleagues who are just as good. Deal with it! It’s not that serious.

There are different definitions of hate based on the context. Hate could mean Spite or dislike which is applicable in this case. AMVCA is a Groupie thing and not a yardstick for measuring best and worst actors. If i follow your analogy, then Blossom and Oc are poor actors cos they lost this year.
Both knew they were not getting anything this year cos the spotlight was on a new face. Oc stylishly traved to South Africa cos he knew all along. You need to understand that it’s about media marketing not the most loved or best actor mbok.

    • NANA

      March 7, 2016 at 1:58 am

Blossom and OC are actually poor actors. They won last year cause they had more votes. You cannot compare them with RMD, Adjetey, Joseph Benjamin or Majid.

Once again (I’m looking at you Quiss) only the comedy/drama acting categories, best tv series and best movie for each region are based on votes from viewers. Everything else from screenplay to makeup to costumes to documentaries AND also BEST OVERALL MOVIE AFRICA is judged by a professional film jury. Have a blessed day.

Did you say Blossom and OC are poor actors? Oh Lord.
And did you say people voted for them because they liked them?
    Oh Lord!
Did you say that RMD, Benjamin etc are better than them? OMG!
You ended up shooting yourself in the foot.
That confirms that AMVCA is for new talents that people like.
Last year, RMD lost out to Blossom and OC but we know RMD from the old nollywood is better than both of them. You only ended up supporting my opinion about AMVCA.
Keep your ignorant comment to yourself!

    • Lee

      March 7, 2016 at 11:24 am

The fact that you just said OC and Blossom are better than RMD and Joseph Benjamin shows that you’re the ignorant one and without a doubt, you have a serious issues; pardon me. Like who in their right state of mind compares RMD with Blossom or OC?!?? Are you kidding me? You honestly need to slap yourself for saying that. Please, GET A LIFE! You have left way too many illogical and incomprehensible comments on this post. The show ended on Saturday night, it’s enough. Never seen such ridiculous and ‘loserish” comments. People like you find it hard to accept defeat. Please, move on!

@Lee you really need reading glasses! Where did i say that Oc and Blossom are better than RMD. I am not the Ignorant Nana that made that statement. Nigerians are so quick to attack people without reading thoroughly!
My stance is that AMVCA is only a viewers thing and it doesn’t mean that Oc,DKD and Blossom are better than RMD that lost an award. For Pete’s sake, RMD and Genny are veterans and they don’t need to patronize anyone.
AMVCA is for new comers. Get a LIFE and stop attacking people unjustly!

    • Nwanma

      March 7, 2016 at 7:55 pm

@Belema if you are civilized you wouldn’t bully others for having an opinion about actors you hate!
Whether you like Genny or not,she has paid her dues in Nollywood and nobody can dispute that? You think she cares for your opinion? You think she would die because she lost at a viwers award where people vote because of different sentiments?
Genevieve is an icon in nollywood and an inspiration and pacesetter to others including Adesuwa.
She doesn’t need to beg for your votes or for you to like her.
Amvca is not a do or die affair for icons like Genny.
She remains the Queen of Nollywood, even Oprah,Hollywood and CNN can attest to that.
You are defintely Uncultured, let it pain you.

    • Lee

      March 7, 2016 at 11:28 am

And RMD lost to Blossom cause Blossom had more votes. Doesn’t mean he is better; you think RMD has time to campaign for votes? These people are legends, RMD, Bimbo Akintola, Oge Boyo, Omotola Ekeinde, Stella Damascus, Gloria Young, Ramsey Noah, Liz Benson. etc. awards mean nothing to them; they’ve done their part(s) and are paving the way for the new ones and are not bitter like you. Your comments make me cringe, smh!

    • Nwanma

      March 7, 2016 at 7:41 pm

You are only validating and supporting my opinion that Blossom’s victory at the AMVCA doesn’t make him better than RMD and the other veterans in nollywood.
This award is not a yardstick for measuring talents. Why the unreasonable attack? You don’t know the difference between Nwanma and Nana. Scroll up and see how you made a fool of yourself. Nigerians are so Hot headed!

    • Lee

      March 8, 2016 at 7:27 pm

On the contrary, you made a FOOL of yourself; a complete one at that. You’re talking too much nonsense. It’s okay for you to support Genevieve and even idolise her, what’s not okay is for you to tear other actors down just because of her. You have received way too much insults from different people on this post because of your ridiculous and senseless comments; yet you’re not tired of leaving even more irrational comments. The fact that you could even say Blossom is better than RMD shows how “smart” you are, Blossom himself will laugh if you said that to him. You should shut up already; aren’t you ashamed? So pathetic.

lets not forget that the AMVCAS is based on the viewers choice, that been said . how many of the big wings actors actually come to lobby for your votes on line? rather they leave their names do the voting for them. i remember the ist time Funke Akindele got nominated for her role in Jenifa, she didnt win…fast ward to the next and this day… she will gently remind us that we should vote for her and we can all see the result of that …….’.
Also the woman that won as against Beverly Naya, said some thing in her acceptance speech thanking people that voted tirelessly for her saying ” you people can vote for Africa”
so please if the likes of Geny, Nse, Maji didnt win …..they didn’t see the need to canvass for vote from their fans.
maybe if they so deserve it next time, they will have to remind pple to vote for them.
