A Dig at the AMVCAs? Yvonne Nelson says most awards in Africa are “Who they Cool with Awards”

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson is noticeably missing from the red carpet of the 2016 AMVCAs and so are a number of her recent movies from the nominee list including “If Tomorrow Never Comes”.

The nominees for the AMVCAs this year were released based on submission from the actors, actresses, directors and cast of nominated movies as it was strictly a viewer’s choice scenario this year.

Yvonne Nelson however doesn’t think so.

She took to Twitter to share her thoughts a few hours after the AMVCAs started airing.

She wrote:

Yvonne Nelson

Do you agree with her?

@BellaNaija… it has always been a viewers choice scenario hence the name of the awards “African Magic Viewers Choice Awards”

      March 5, 2016 at 10:13 pm

It has always been a Viewer’s Choice Awards, hence the name BN.
As for Yvonne, she’s a bitter person. If she’s not there or involved in something, it doesn’t sit well with her. Bye girl!
Shirley Frimping-Manso and Frank Ajase, (your Ghanaian siblings that won, Yvonne) congratulations to you guys.
Congratulations to the other winners and the 1st Malawian winner; you guys put your country on the map. Great show.

Ehn she’s always making noise. I heard If Tomorrow Never Comes was good but I have seen some of her other movies and they suck, including Single and Married and that one where family members convene because their father is dying. That movie was very forced and their portrayal of a character who was gay was a stereotypical insult to gay and straight people – in fact to anyone who can see.

Honestly Yvonne just wants a bit of attention today. Thats the plain gospel truth.

      I sorely agree with he!

Nigerians are hypocrites. Imagine after many years it’s now they remember to give Bukky Ajayi a merit award. I love Genevive Nnaji so much but did you think she wasn’t going to win in that category when she is an Amstel Malt ambassador? In fact i won’t be surprised that she was rest assured of winning and based on her her statement “wishing Stephanie good luck for the rest of the category” it was obvious that Stephanie was also going to win.

You talk about Leonard Di Caprio, do you know that was his ever first oscar? Do you how hard he had worked for many years to finally win an Oscar? And then these people feed us crap with Amateur actors like Adesua and Daniel as best actors? I swear, even Hollywood will over look their craft. NO SHADES.

I tell you what happens in this film industry nowadays; you see well privileged actors given platform because of who they know and how much money they have, while hardworking and deserving lots are pushed to the background.

Na only Nigeria this kind thing fit happen. Long leg factor.

She is just a hater; a small-breasted hater.
Congrats to all the AMVCA winners joor!

      March 6, 2016 at 3:43 pm

Wow! You had to bring in her breasts….
And how a number of people think it’s so funny a joke? Maybe I’m just weird….

    • Mercy

      March 6, 2016 at 7:37 pm

Women actually find this post funny. This body shaming in the name of comedy is absolutely unacceptable. This man could have made his point without referring to her body parts. In any case, this girl is a very beautiful woman. Why should it matter if her parts are big or small? Make your point about how she is a hater but leave her body out.

    • JEGAism

      March 7, 2016 at 12:39 am

@angel and mercy lighten up, will you. It’s not that serious.

    • Tosin

      March 7, 2016 at 7:01 am

but that’s how I am about awards too. if they share my taste, they’re great. if I get one, they surely have great taste. otherwise, they probably suck. basically. human nature.
Nobel Prize, i’m looking at you. very critically. publish your criteria 🙂

    I don’t agree with her,she’s a confused lady.

  4. Jay

    March 5, 2016 at 10:07 pm

Ghanaians are usually very timid people. Their inferiority complex is on another level. Yvonne is still bitter with Nigerians because of Nyanya.

    • Iris

      March 5, 2016 at 10:56 pm

That’s an Yvonne problem. Don’t project it to encompass all Ghanaians.

    • Drew

      March 5, 2016 at 11:31 pm

Grrr I accidentally liked your colmeht!! So you’re going to turn this into Nigeria vrs Ghana yet again like you people always do,right? And insults all of us because? Ghanaians are timid yet we got our Independence first in and paved the way for other Sub-Sahara African Countries to fight for thiers. Ghanaians are timid yet we beat your behinds almost always whenever there’s a football match between us. We will rather be known as timid than annoying-loud mouth-uncouth aggressive people perceived as fraudsters. Muppet!

    • tish

      March 6, 2016 at 12:17 am

Eish! you are complaining of exactly what you are doing. Which one is ‘you people always do’ here now? Mschew. Please focus on the Yvonne Nelson of a person who is obviously unhappy over too many things that is looking for an avenue to ease her pain. You kuku know how these comparisons btw the 2 countries end, so don’t go there.

    • Bola

      March 6, 2016 at 1:04 am

Drew, although Jay’s comment was totally unnecessary, Ghana did NOT pave way for other Africans to gain independence. Please, sit down. That comment shows you know nothing about African independence.

    • ElessarisElendil

      March 6, 2016 at 1:08 am

Sorry abeg forgive us, don’t take it like that nah.

When it comes down to it we really don’t have a stick to beat Ghanaians with. They even have a better economy.

When can we start hanging our leaders? can’t even yab common Ghana in peace again.

    • yvey_yves

      March 5, 2016 at 11:44 pm

ah! i dont understand. what kind of reputation do Ghanaians have over there in Naija? Cos there’s always at least one hateful comment about us whenever Ghana is mentioned. Yvonne Nelson spoke for herself, not all of us. Stop generalising!! cos if the whole world did it to u, u wouldn’t come out smelling like a rose. I promise u!!
And i thought BN moderates the comments. some things should not be allowed.

  5. anon!

    March 5, 2016 at 10:07 pm

  8. bruno

    March 5, 2016 at 10:13 pm

its a fan voted award, voted by the public online.
it’s not that serious.even tho I believe the amvca is all about padi many time will they nominate blossom or oc ukeje or rita Dominic.

just imagine leonardo dicaprio or luita crying cause they were not nominated for a people’s choice award or a bet award or a mtv movie award. pls its not that serious.

  9. Ejiro

    March 5, 2016 at 10:28 pm

There will always be people angry about the award, Egypt Oscars, bafta, the headies, now amvca, just like wen will politicians stop going to court for tribunal, humans we don’t knw wen to be happy for people and come back with revenge which is success (been better) and blossom is a very talented actor I stumbled on most of his movies he is very good so as oc, for etomi adesua I dnt knw, for genny movie that’s a new slot I guess but congrats to all better u next time I guess

Yvonne Nelson hun, you have always been my fav Ghanaian actress but with this your talk jare, its a no no for me, I know you are better off then this, its the #AMVCA, work hard on your up coming projects you might get nominated next year and probably be one lucky winner, #StillLoveYouTho

  14. hrju

    March 5, 2016 at 11:09 pm

This year Amvca is the worst of all, how can they nominated more popular and talented actors and end of the day they will give the awards to the upcoming actors, won’t they have category for upcoming or new actors, don’t tell me adesuwa and Dkd is better than the likes of Nse, majid, Genevieve, Mike, next year awards, people may shun the award

    • Pretty

      March 6, 2016 at 12:05 am

That’s why the said vote . so people voted for them

    • Bola

      March 6, 2016 at 1:11 am

hrju, I didn’t intend to be insulting but your comment is stupid on all levels. What exactly is wrong with up and coming actors getting awards, are you for real? You want the same set of people getting awards all the time? You don’t want to give the new generation actors a chance? If that’s the reason you concluded that AMVCA this year is “the worst”; then you have serious issues. By the way, it’s called VIEWER’S CHOICE.

    • Bola

      March 6, 2016 at 1:15 am

By the way, I love Nse, she won the award in that category in 2014 which she deserved. She can act and she’s loved. You don’t expect Genevieve to win in such a category, she lost the 1st even one to Jackie Appiah in 2013, Nse is just a good actor as her if not better, Adesua is upcoming but better than Genevieve and has starred in more roles than her this year and last year, and it’s viewers choice; how many people do you think will vote for Genevieve with her allegedly nasty attitude? Change your mindset. Next time, spend time voting. That way you won’t have to rant afterwards.

    • Squad

      March 6, 2016 at 7:55 am

Lol forget who is upcoming and not ADESUA will flood GENEVIEVE IN ACTING. FACT! Like jenifer lawrence didnt win against big stars then abeg ghan sit. Its high time nollywood grow….we need new faces.

  15. Chiemeka Ugo

    March 6, 2016 at 12:05 am

My dear please don’t spoil the fun of this blessed night Biko. Before I send vultures to eat you up. For your information adesuwa is a fantastic actor and knows her craft. If not that Genevieve my queen produced and acted in her movie I swear adesuwa would have still won. If you have followed her craft rught from “knocking on heavens door” and the rest you will definitely not be saying this. See e I voted for her and Genevieve but am very happy that she won. When you are good, your hardwork will definitely pay. Atleast her winning shows that gone are the days of “because your popular and old, once you get nominated for any movie that you must win”. Atleast now her market and resumee don go high. All adesuwas movie has been hit after hit at the cinema. To me this has wen the best amvca award since the started and am glad that each year is an improvement of the former. Not like AMAA award that has refused to improve after so many years.

Yvonne please I am Ghanaian like you, but I will say to you, ka wanu tum (shut up your mouth). Maybe unlike ghana movie awards (a complete 100%joke) organized by Fred Nuamah, finally AMCVA has decided to STOP AWARDING FOR MEDIOCRITY as they have in the past, Tis about time they award real talent and not mediocres like you, Jackie, Nadia, Juliet Ibrahim etc.

Spend more money on acting lessons ad producing movie lessons and less on red bottom shoes and Brazilian weaves and someday your talent will be recognized at the AMCVA. So please stop the stupid shade and complaining. You sound pained.

I have never cared for any of these stupid african movie awards not in africa nor ones held abroad but this year I am finally proud of AMCVA. Less mediocre nominees and winners this time. Finally you’re getting it right.

    March 6, 2016 at 1:20 am

Yvonne is just a sore loser. She boycotted the movie awards in Ghana citing some unnecessary things as the reason because Abraham Atrah from beasts of no nation was nominated in most categories AND went ahead to win most of them. Yvonne, please stop talking miss ‘i have the best legs in the industry’.

  18. Ibe

    March 6, 2016 at 1:28 am

Frank Raja Efosa Arase is a Nigerian, from Edo state but he relocated to Ghana after he sign an MOU with Ghanaian production company to help develop and discover new talents in Ghana film industry. just google it to confirm what am telling you

  19. TofuNation

    March 6, 2016 at 6:40 am

People voted, people won. Celebrate others and work harder you’ll get your recognition in time. Throwing shade won’t throw more talent or creativity into your acting or producing. ?

  20. fabulicious

    March 6, 2016 at 7:18 am

Stop complaining. That’s what happens when you are friends with rukky sanda..Nobody takes your acting or your directing skills serious anymore. You better wake up and realize its a viewers choice awards and some of us spend time voting good actors who are newbies because i personally voted like that. Go and polish your craft and come back.

  21. Yesisaidit

    March 6, 2016 at 8:28 am

Not just frank arase but Abdul Mumuni who produced that movie Beyonce is also 100% Nigerian living in ghana as a foreigner doing movies claiming Ghanaian
