The Chairman of Lagos Task Force, Superintendent of Police, Olayinka Egbeyemi, has said that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit would enforce the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012 around filling stations across the state.

He made this statement yesterday during an operation to clear traffic around filling stations. The operation which took place in Ikeja, local airport road, Oshodi and Mushin saw the impounding of over 60 motorcycles plying restricted routes and the arrest of 10 persons for hawking fuel by road sides around filling stations.

Noting the need for sanity around all filling stations across the state irrespective of the fuel situation, Egbeyemi warned that the government would no longer condone parking at obstruction zones around filling stations and warned that the vehicle of any motorist caught obstructing traffic by parking illegally at any location would be impounded.

Why are they arresting the fuel hawkers. The fuel stations wont sell in generators or kegs anymore and there is no light. These hawkers are the only way for some to get fuel for their generators. You dont want to give us light, we’ve bought generators with our money, then you don’t want to give us fuel for the generators because they think we will sell them as black market. Yet somehow, these fuel hawkers always have fuel to sell on the roadside. I am just laughing o….some of these black market people will soon have enough money to buy private jets with the kind of profits they are making….people are suffering everywhere. An old man struggled to roll his generator to Forte Oil on Awolowo Road yesterday, only to be told that they wont sell fuel for his generator. Clueless bunch.

Urgently address the issue of gridlock caused by these gas stations, forming 3 lanes on major roads are just absurd. A 1 mint drive took me 3 hours this morning and i’m not laughing at all.

You then arrest the petrol hawker and resell their petrol smh…
