Polio: Dutse LGA to Immunise 120,000 Children
No fewer than 120,000 children had been targeted for immunization against the wild polio virus in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa during the forthcoming exercise.
The Information Officer of Dutse Council, Malam Ya’u Garba, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse Friday that the council had received enough doses of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPVs) to cover the targeted number of children.
He explained that the children would be immunised against polio and other childhood-killer diseases during the five-day exercise. “630 ad-hoc staff had been trained to conduct the exercise.”
Head of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in the council, Babangida Musa, had also urged traditional leaders in the area to mobilise their subjects to participate in the exercise,’’ Garba said.
NAN reports that the polio immunisation for the month of May, would be flagged off in all the 27 local government areas of the state on Saturday, May 14th.
