#Rio2016: “Go for Gold” – President Buhari tells Dream Team VI

President BuhariPresident Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday night praised the indomitable spirit of the Nigerian soccer team to the ongoing Rio Olympics, which saw them flying over Denmark 2-0 to qualify for the semi-finals.

A statement by Femi Adesina, the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said an elated President Buhari urged the Dream Team to go for gold in the football tournament.

“Again and again, the unconquerable Nigerian spirit has come to the fore, showing that where there is a will, there’s always a way.

This was a team that was not given much chance, but which has now advanced into the semi-finals.

Go for it. Go for the gold, and let the Nigerian banner be held proudly aloft once again on the global stage. We are almost there. Let’s go,” he said.

President Buhari enjoined the Nigerian nation to pray and support the Nigerian contingent to the Olympics, “especially the soccer team, so that the rest of the world will know that even in the face of economic adversity, the Nigerian spirit remains resolute and lifted high.

“And this, we shall demonstrate in every sphere of our national life,” he added.

Msschhheeewwww… I’m so pissed… Nigerian athletes have suffered immensely for these games, just to represent an ungrateful country.. If these boys had not done so well, no one would say anything positive to them…

Nigerians are some strong people. Their patriotism is to another level. If I’m an athlete, I will never represent Nigeria. I will represent another country that will actually appreciate and pay me. Go for Gold Buhari? You are slowly becoming not so funny comedian. These athletes get nothing back but humiliation. They suffer for a country that treats them like shit.

Capital HISS… Typical attitude of a Nigerian (African) parent. They won’t show support until you show signs of success.
Mr President, na now Olympic begin?

We do realize that the president does not have a direct hand in everything right? Is anyone blaming the president for the gymnastics body in the US for failing to respond to or investigate sexual abuse claims?

Your comment is dumb. Buhari has no excuse for not encouraging the olympic team until now. What he should be doing now is commendation for their effort and more encouragement. Releasing this statement comes off as one who just joins the bandwagon mid way to celebrate them because they are succeeding.
