Have you ever tried to Google “Nigerian men”?

Labo Daniel did and the results were alarming. 99% (Ok maybe 98%) of the articles that popped up bordered on infidelity, ego, chauvinism, domestic laziness and domestic violence. Ultimately inferring that they are a selfish, stone hearted breed of human species who have no feelings, never make sacrifices and exist for themselves only.

The shocking stats prompted her to write this article on BN. With the feedback received on the article, she decided to explore this conversation further.

On Episode 9 of ‘Conversations with Labo’, Labo Daniel had an interesting conversation with counsellor and career coach, Jimi Tewe.

He talked on what he thinks the reason for the stereotype is.

The average African man, takes his image of what a man is from what is traditional. He saw the way his Dad treated his mother and believes that’s how to treat a woman, but things are changing.”

When a man meets a woman, it’s either he wants to sleep with her, or he wants to marry her thereby skipping a key part of relationship, friendship, which is the cause of all the problems.”

He gives further insights on how to solve the crises and of course touches on the mother of all stereotypes, all men cheat and talks on how he remained a virgin till marriage.
