MTN Project Fame Season 9 came to an end on Saturday, 24th of September, 2016 with a grand finale and closing gala night held at the Ultima Studios in Lekki, Lagos.
The event was held to select the champion of season 9 while also showcasing the amazing talents of the “Super Six” – Dapo, Kitay, Elizabeth, Okiemute, Winner and Pere – to the world.
As stated by both the judges and faculty members, the closing gala was not held as an end for these final six contestants but rather as the first day in what we hope will be a blossoming career. It was a magical night that kicked off in the afternoon with guests gracing the yellow carpet.
The night kicked off with comedian Seyilaw taking to the stage to share some rib-cracking jokes before the presenters, Joseph Benjamin and Bolanle Olukanni, kicked off the final show.
Kicking off the performances for the night was Miss Ige, a faculty member. She left every single person in the audience with Goosebumps as she gave a powerful rendition of “Hallelujah”. It was amazing to watch.
The Super Six Performances
Pere wowed the audience with his rendition of Sam Smith’s “Writing on the Wall”. Pere’s grandmother was seated in the front row and she couldn’t hold back her tears as she cheered him on.
Winner took to the stage in a gorgeous dress as she belted out the notes to Adele’s hit song “Hello” while Kitay turned the crowd up and got everyone dancing with his fun twist to Kiss Daniel’s “Mama”.
Elizabeth and Okiemute both rocked the stage too. The ladies went with Tiwa Savage’s “Standing Ovation” and Phyno’s “Fada Fada” respectively and they killed their performances. Their outfits for the performance were also top notch.
Dapo gave a sweet and melodious rendition to Labrinth’s “Jealous”. He made the heartbreaking song sound so beautiful.
The Show Continues
There were other noteworthy moments during the show including a lovely choreography number by the Academy’s dance instructor, Loveth. She and her dancers went from using the theme song of “Game of Thrones” to Beyonce’s “Run the World”.
YBNL artist Adekunle Gold was the guest performer for the night and he had the ladies screaming as he performed his hit singles “Orente” and “Sade”. To round up his performance, he sang his new song “Ariwo Ko” off his debut album.
The Winning Moment
Finally, it was the time everyone was waiting for!
None of the super six contestants walked away empty-handed which was admirable. In 6th place was Winner who walked away with N500,000. In 5th place was Dapo who walked away with N1Million. In 4th place was Pere and he walked away with N2Million.
The top three were Kitay (N2Million and a Salon Car), Elizabeth (N3Million and a Salon Car) and the winner was Okiemute. She walked away with N5Million, an SUV and a recording contract worth millions.
All six finalists also walked away with a lifetime of memories, lessons about music and contacts in the industry.
