Flight Delays & Cancellations: Arik Air Laments Scarcity of Aviation Fuel

arik-airArik Air on Friday alerted passengers of worsening aviation fuel supply leading to flight delays and some cancellations at airports across the country.

The airline made the announcement in a statement signed by its Communications Manager, Ola Adebanji.

The statement said the fuel scarcity which has been on for several days was becoming more intense.

It said this was due to the inability of approved major fuel marketers to meet the demands of the airline, especially at this time when the maximum number of passengers were travelling for the yuletide.

“Arik Air, the largest airline operator, has been operating over 100 daily flights and therefore experiences a larger impact of this scarcity, compared to other airlines.

The airline requires a daily supply of approximately 500,000 litres for its operations but it has been getting between 180,000 and 200,000 over the past 10 days, which has severely impacted the scheduled flight operations.

Despite the abrupt and random fuel price increase by some marketers, which the airline may be forced to pass on to its customers, the product supply still remains epileptic,’’ the statement said.

It therefore, appealed for the understanding of its passengers, who had been booked to travel on its flights.

According to the statement, passengers are also advised to always visit the airline’s website, www.arikair.com or contact the Call Center on 01 2799999, for information about their flights.

Arik Air has been struggling for sometime now, aviation fuel is not the issue. The airline should stop deceiving itself thinking that they aare deceiving the general public please.

You can’t blame them!!. There are no facilities to maintain these aircrafts in this country.

Aircrafts have to go through various checks, We have `CHECK A, CHECK B, CHECK C and CHECK D. (These have to be performed after a certain number of flights)

CHECK A is like your very basic check and can be done in Nigeria (Just like changing your car oil)

CHECK B – Am not sure if this can be done in Nigeria.
CHECK C & D – forget it! the aircraft has to be flown out, taken apart piece by piece and undergo serious maintenance in a hangar. most airlines just put the planes aside and forget it.

How do you expect to operate an airline in a country where you can only perform basic maintenance like change oil.
      – dont forget dollar is not cheap to maintain this part

Only God knows how they are able to survive despite all this challenges.

Silly! Isn’t it the same aviation fuel that med view, airpeace, first nation and other international airlines use? Why must you be the only ones to complain? Anyways. Congratuation on achieving, without competition what you are known for; delay and cancellation of flights. Keep it up

Airpeace is also struggling to meet up with flights and Dana too has joined the league. They’ve been rescheduling and cancelling flights like crazy. This does not take away the peculiarities of Arik operations.

Apart from the fueling issues, Arik has issues with their aircrafts. Had a doctor friend who traveled with his entire family. He said their particular plane kept dropping. The pilot later announced they were experiencing “Technical Difficulty”. Had everyone scabashing from Lagos to their destination! NB The flight had been delayed for 9hrs. Return nko? Fire! Flight was delayed for 2 days! After paying 300k to and fro. Needless to say he shelled out another N150k to another airline!

      Lie lie.
An airline with100 flights a day certainly needs more fuel than the ones with 20 or less.
Arik is doing well considering the business environment in Nigeria.
All airlines reschedule flights, even BA.

Yeah right! Stop playing Arik! Fuel issues or not, you guys need to pack it in already! Crappy airline! Till today they have still failed to process any of my refunds for flights canceled or me having to make alternate arrangements. I have cut my losses. They need to shut down already. Not sure what the FG is waiting for.

Arik is the worst airline ever. We’re currently at heathrow airport waiting to claim ourbaggages. Flight landed since 8:30! We were meant to leave Nigeria yesterday, they cancelled on us. I’m too tired to type. Nigeria has a long way to go!

Actually, Arik Air is a total disappointment to herself and Nigerians!! I am having a refund issue with them right now!

My flight to Owerri from Abuja was cancelled by Arik due to “operational reasons” in a rather unpalatable manner. My ticket number and booking reference are 725 21089 75326 and IDQSWN respectively.

I made a refund request at the Arik Air counter at the airport on December 6, 2016 and was told that I will get a refund in 21 days. Up to this moment I have not heard from Arik Air. I have sent several emails to Arik Air concerning the refund and there is no response from them whatsoever. How can airline that really wants to succeed in the industry be so callous and unprofessional?

I really need the refund of my payment of N48,799 for the round trip ticket. I used my ATM card to make the payment and the cash left my account immediately. It is, therefore, incomprehensible to me why the refund should take so long. What is more annoying is the lack of response from the Arik Air on the matter.

I have written to them severally (to their many emails) and even copied CPC and I am still waiting.

How can an airline that claims it has no aviation fuel be allowed to book clients for flights, cancel the flights in a disrespectful manner at the last minute, and still be allowed to do business with passengers’ funds for months before making refunds? Can you imagine how many passengers that gave up pursuing their refunds and what may have happened to their money? If they are counting on me giving up then they need to think again, again, and again!
