Ngozi Adebiyi’s Business Nuggets: Delay is Dangerous In a Quest for Leadership Growth

Imagine if you were granted thousands of opportunities daily to make an impact and change things tremendously and like the proverbial genie that grants wishes, these wishes are exhausted and a new batch are allotted with the turn of each new day. What would you do? Definitely use up every opportunity that comes your way!
Well the good news is we all have 86,400 opportunities every day! These opportunities come clothed as 86,400 seconds daily.

What we do with those opportunities determine how far we expand the reach of our leadership potential. Leadership is a game of influence. The more people you are able to positively influence their thoughts, words and actions, the more effective you are as a leader. Time is a very important asset in our leadership journey be you a leader of self or a leader of a group.

As 2017 beckons, don’t blow away the time required to make life transforming decisions. Determine to make the valuable investment in becoming a better leader. Determine to read a book, listen to an audio book if it’s easier, review past training and workshop materials, register for a certification course, get a mentor, coach or reverse mentor (reverse mentoring refers to an initiative in which older executives are paired with and mentored by younger employees on topics such as technology, social media and current trends).

When leaders procrastinate in developing themselves, there’s a huge impact on not only the people they lead but on themselves. It’s like wear and tear on a building that is not adequately maintained. The process of maintenance is similar to keeping abreast with trends in your industry, career and space. Will you do this for yourself or outsource it to your boss or HR in your company? Would you make good your leadership space by not dangerously delaying your learning curve?

As the year comes to an end, leaders and organisation are locking in developing strategies for the coming year, others are starting to take stock of how the current year has been in other to re-strategise for the future. One area you must not neglect is your personal development as a leader. It’s time to prioritise your development and take ownership without delay. Make up your mind to invest time in your leadership development. You’ll dangerously delay your growth if you put your leadership development on hold. #ActNow
