“Private Moments Matter!” – Tyrese Gibson warns Social Media Users that Overshare
Fast & Furious actor, Tyrese Gibson in a series of videos posted on Instagram has chided users of Social Media for their inability to keep their private lives away from the public. He said:
“We live in a day and age where some of y’all are so caught up in the matrix, and including me. I had to gain control of it coz I didn’t know I got sucked into it. You can’t eat food, you can’t get gifts, you can’t have any family birthdays, private moments. Some of y’all are getting pregnant, as soon as you get the word, you’re tweeting it, instagramming it, you’re putting your ultrasound pictures up. There’s no such thing as a private moment. Everything about everything you’re doing all day, everyday is up on your timeline. I’m not saying stop. I’m just saying are you even conscious of the fact that you’re addicted to strangers, you’re addicted to the validation and feedback. Now we all know the power and the benefit of social media; but I’m simply asking a question, “are you conscious, are you aware of the fact that you’ve allowed for social media to take over your life. When’s the last time you got a gift or a surprise of laughed or had a beautiful private moment without feeling the need to feed your timeline with a bunch of strangers you’ll never meet and you’re seeking the validation and feedback and whatever they gotta say about every private moment you have in your life. As long as you’re aware of it and you decided to keep doing it, I say have at it. But if you’re not aware of it and you got sucked into the matrix the way I did about five years ago, it’s time to pull it together. Not everything you do and say and everywhere you go and every moment are supposed to be fed to strangers”
