“My story, my script, my film was written a 100% by me” – Omoni Oboli’s Okafor’s Law Movie Premiere cancelled due to a Court Injunction over Copyright Infringement Allegations

After months of hard work and preparation, Nollywood actress, director and producer, Omoni Oboli‘s Film “Okafor’s Law” could not be screened at the premiere which held at the IMAX Cinema in Lekki, Lagos today.

The actress was served a court injunction at 5PM today, just an hour before the premiere, because of a lawsuit filed by a third party over allegations that she infringed on a writers intellectual property.

Omoni was clearly heartbroken as she broke the unfortunate news to the audience.

Clap for yourself, Bella. When the allegations surfaced last year, did you publish it? You’re suddenly out to say after years of hard work.

She arrogantly refused to address the issue since 2016, but, she was addressing trivial matters such as a review of “Wives on Strike” on YNaija.

All these could have been avoided, so, let’s chill on the clearly broken part.

That’s pure wickedness. At least the court or the third party would have given her the notice before now. Not when the audience are seated just an hour to the premier of the film.

She has been aware since last year. The third party just wanted to be petty since Omoni was petty and arrogant enough not to respond to those accusations since last year.

Excellent! I am happy to see this. You all keep stealing people’s intellectual work. Best time and date to get served. If anything, you will lose some sleep tonight. And to all you big shot producers who keep stealing from the upcoming, we are all coming with lawyers this time. I will never celebrate a corrupt human. Omoni it’s either you cut him a deal or you throw your investment away… . UBA and filmhouse investment I mean

If she’s been in the known like the other comments say, then she really got served.
There’s this story of a lady who was owed a huge amount of money and the debtor kept eludig her. One Sunday she went to church and as a tradition of the church visitors were called to introduce themselves and let know why they visited.
As u may guess she mentioned her name and called out the debtor’s name as well as his deeds. Immediately she was ushered into a chamber and the debtor summoned. By the close of the service, she was given the money.
When people try to cheat u, embarrasse them the most embarrassing way

i never liked her ever since she put Jonathan’s reelection on her head like a gala hawker. Nobody hates you that much, sort out your issues and put your house in order, You had litigation unresolved but you proceeded to launch a premiere, what happened to tidying up the court case first?

Your case is a clear case of bad belle. If you had opportunity of Johnathan calling you won’t you go? Who knows you but Omoni has made a name for herself. Try and make yours so that you will not need to hate anybody. Thank you.

An injunction is not conclusive proof that someone stole another’s work. The party that secured the injunction still has to prove their case in court. So, all of you shouting that Omoni stole someone’s work need to calm yourselves because the matter has not been adjudicated in a court of law.

I’m sure there’ll be very detailed paper trails and email conversations, so this case will be very easy to prove. Apparently the guy wasn’t even asking for that much money from Omoni, so I don’t know why she ignored him all this while. I guess she was desperate to be acknowledged as the writer of this seemingly great script!

There is something called Prima facie evidence. Evidence on face value. If you read the orders made, Anton piller was made for the seizure of anything okafor’s law in her possession and for this to be granted there must evidence on face value that proves that omoni has a case to answer. Let her pay her lawyers to defend her. U can’t be shouting piracy is bad when you have skeleton in your cupboard.
She was accused since last year, she no talk. The guy should have served her at Toronto sef, he just pitied nollywood.
Let her defend herself and don’t let’s do pity party or be sentimental about it.

Jude is the one that threatened to sue her last year. Although I cant confirm but it seems jude is the one sueing her now. A lot of blogs ignored him when he was telling his story last year. Now everyone is carrying the story. Omoni should have dealt with this thing. Alot of producers disrespect upcoming creatives; This will scared them from misbehaving.

I don’t believe Omoni Oboli completely. The guy who claimed copyright brought facts, she needs to bring hers, and she should’ve settled with him instead of ignoring him. She probably thought he won’t do anything.

This is not the first time she’s been accused of stealing someone’s work.
I’m not saying she stole from Jude but it’s high time we start taking intellectual property rights seriously in Nigeria, people have gotten away with nonsense like this too long.
