Sierra Leonean Pastor Unearths 706-carat Diamond, Hands it Over to the Government

A Sierra Leonean pastor, Emmanuel Momoh has returned a 706-carat diamond he unearthed in the country’s Kono district, to the president.

This was disclosed in a statement on the Sierra Leonean government’s website on Thursday.

“A 706-carat diamond was presented to President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma yesterday evening (Wednesday March 15th, 2017) by Paramount Chief Paul N. Saquee The 5 of Tankoro Chiefdom in Kono district led by the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Honourable Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray at State House,” the statement read.

CNN reports that President Bai Koroma thanked the pastor for not smuggling the gemstone out of the country.

President Bai Koroma also said that Momoh will be rewarded after the diamond is sold.
