Serena Williams is back on World Number One Spot following WTA Rankings
US tennis star Serena Williams returned to the world number one spot in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday.
In the week dedicated to Fed Cup action, the pregnant 35-year-old moved up one place ahead of Germany’s Angelique Kerber with Czech Karolina Pliskova holding the third spot.
Williams revealed on Wednesday that she is expecting her first baby and will not play again this year. Following an outstanding career, which has seen her win 23 Grand Slam singles, one short of Australia’s Margaret Court all-time record of 24, she is unarguably one of the greatest players of all time.
Her coach Patrick Mouratoglou revealed that overtaking Court’s record is a determining factor in her motivation to plough on after the break.
Williams is due to give birth in September.
