Jonathan shares post Reminding Nigerians of "Freedom Enjoyed" under his Government - BellaNaija

Goodluck Jonathan

Former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan shared a throwback of a speech he gave in December 2014 saying he was the most insulted president in the world.

The post, which so far has over 2500 comments, is a photo of a quote from the speech. The quote reads:

I am the most abused and insulted president in the world, but when I leave you will all remember me for the total freedom you enjoyed under my Government.

His post is seen as a subliminal targeted toward the present government’s insistence on curtailing what it has termed “hate speech.”

The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had in a series of tweets last week said the government is taking a stand against hate speech.

He said hate speech is a type of terrorism, as stated in the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) had also in the same week announced its planned censoring of broadcast stations.

It stated broadcast stations are not allowed to discuss ongoing court cases in the country.

It also said broadcast stations are to begin screening callers before airing them, to ensure there is no hate speech.

Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, in an interview with Channels TV, also disclosed that the military now monitors social media to sieve out and react to anti-government, anti-military, and anti-security speeches.

Most times, You don’t know or appreciate what you have until it’s gone. Unfortunately, this fascist dictator has refused to die. Things might be better under Osibande. Only thing is, he is also now an expert junior Liar Mohhamed.

It’s either he was hacked or he is the daftest person ever. Hope he is arrested for this their hate speech thing sef. Instead of him to hide himself in a corner and shut up. From that weird ass rally or whatever he and his fellow mofos carried out last month to this. He’s high on pot. Oga swerve, your government was as useless as this government just in a different department. You all are a bunch of headless chickens. GEJ leave us alone we will never elect you back. Stop the slimy attempt at a subtle campaign for a reelection. Aaargh. This country is a waste.

APC obviously can’t stand criticism but they were happy to dish it out while campaigning. What goes around comes around dudes. Useless party that has succeeded in drawing the country back like never before. You must reap what you sowed. Shikena. No more, no less.

But did he lie? At least they gave us freedom of speech even when he was insulted everyday, unlike this dictator

I’m a bit confused…. pple keep saying there is no freedom of speech bla bla bla…. i see pple abuse Buhari and Osibanjo daily on different SM platforms, yet none of them has been arrested, at least none that I am aware of.

When are we going to put aside hate and start to really care about our future? These politicians are the enemy, on all sides, and they know a house divided cannot stand, so they keep fueling the flames of hate using ethnicity and religion. How do we overcome them if we can’t speak TRUTHFULLY with one voice? I find this really sad.
