BN Living: Bisola Ijalana of M12 Photography shares Cute Photos of People living with Down Syndrome in Nigeria

As a part of its corporate social responsibility, the M12 Photography team visited the Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria to help create awareness about the Down Syndrome condition and support for persons living with Down Syndrome using photography as a tool of social information and transformation. The M12 Photography team led by its CEO, Bisola Ijalana, took portrait photographs of persons living with Down Syndrome.

Down Syndrome is a genetic condition involving an extra chromosome which occurs around the time of conception. A person living with Down syndrome has forty-seven chromosomes instead of forty-six. They usually have a certain degree of learning disability such as problems with reading, writing, communication and speech difficulty and are prone to medical problems. Some are born with congenital heart problems. A significant number have hearing loss, ophthalmic problems, thyroid disorder, respiratory problems, poor immune systems etc.

Most Down Syndrome children are neglected, relegated and or abandoned by their parents and society on the basis of culture and myths that tend to stigmatize them and their family.

Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria is a non-governmental, non-political and not-for-profit association of children with Down Syndrome. The foundation is committed to bridging the gap between people with Down Syndrome and the rest of the society through a support system that seeks to integrate them fully into the community in which they live.

Bisola Ijalana appeals to Nigerians to support The Down Syndrome Foundation, to help;

– Provide surgical fees for Down Syndrome Kids with heart defects
– Sponsor a child with Down Syndrome to school
– Create jobs for adults with Down Syndrome
