Peculiar Okafor: Your Opinion or Just Jealousy?

All these extravagant weddings sef, they don’t last. There’s no need to spend on the wedding and ignore the marriage’

Why are they vacationing at this time and posting pictures when they know there’s a recession?

I thank God for the little things I have, at least I can sleep well at night.

Statements like these are very common in a lot of our conversations. We offer ‘genuine feedback‘ to people who are achieving; we tell them things they can do better, regardless of how harsh the tone is. Every mistake they make is scrutinized and we also poke holes at their successes. The truth of the matter is that in a way we might just be jealous.

The human spirit is strong and bad intentions can always be felt even when we lie to ourselves that we are offering well meaning advice or the very famous ‘personal opinion‘.

Ask yourself, when you criticize, put down, decide to start a food fest under each article of a person, what is your aim and what do you intend to achieve? is it to feel a bit better about yourself, to convince yourself that the successful people are not all that?

My people, let’s live our lives and let others live. More importantly, let’s be honest with ourselves about the fact that we all want to be successful and experience the best things life has to offer and it can somehow make us feel inadequate when others seemingly get these things easily. However, poking holes in their success doesn’t make them any less sucessful, it just makes us look ugly.

Like a BN commenter once wrote ‘appreciate and celebrate the worthy instead of expressing the unnecessary.’

Live your life and stop jealous!

Stop Jealous is a not-so-popular slang.

(Cont’d) which* makes you feel better about yourself. Just like that lady whose jealous of her once “bimbo” girlfriend. Even the most innocent comment usually carries a thinly veiled sacarsm. So all in all, most of the people who give all sorts of comments, especially ungodly ones, are jealous.

Hi Peculiar. I’ve missed your ever so succinct and insightful pieces. Good job. Yes I agree that jealousy/bad belle is at the root of most hurtful comments and that’s not healthy at all. I also feel this jealousy stem a complex which is runs deep. Most people are unhappy about something with themselves and they tend to give off this negative energy in the process. We really need to stop people! Stop jealous!
