2019 Presidency: I’ll support Atiku even if Buhari contests – Minister of Women Affairs

Minister of Women Affairs Jummai Alhassan

Aisha Alhassan, Minister of Women Affairs, says she will support former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar if he decides to run for office in 2019.

In a video which went viral on Wednesday, the minister declared support for the former vice-president which has sparked condemnation, particularly among supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alhassan in an interview with BBC Hausa, described Abubakar as her godfather, saying she does not mind losing her job for supporting the former number two citizen.

“Atiku is my godfather even before I joined politics. And again, Baba Buhari did not tell us that he is going to run in 2019,” she said.

“Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel and tell him that ‘Baba I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister but Baba just like you know I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather. If Atiku says he is going to contest.

“If because of what I said, I am sacked, it will not bother me because I believe in Allah, that my time has elapsed that is why… Baba is not a mad man like those calling for my sack. They have been sending it and spreading that if Baba sees this I will be sacked‎.”

Alhassan should do the honourable thing and resign. As for supporting Atiku, can there be a crook worse than Atiku in this World? She will support Atiku because he is her God father not because he is the best for Nigeria. How did we end up with leaders like this?

This is clearly a vote of no confidence on Buhari. The man has done more damage than any other leader to the Nigerian entity. I wish more rent seekers can speak up rather than this deafening silence.

I honestly dont know how people like this become our leader.
A very unintelligent answer for a Minister.
you are supporting atiku because he is your god father and risking the lives of 150 milliom people.

Why has she not been sacked already?

Why? For sharing her voter perspectives? She clearly feels strongly about her opinion. the only premise for being fired is not doing the job right. Do you have info on that?

But she will return to office. That’s Nigeria for you. She’s thinking of her future + her pocket and is ready to jump ship at any instance with AGIP. I think she still has gubernatorial intentions in Taraba State in 2019 and she’s setting her stall. Sings “sack her now…”
