Solomon M. Yusuf, 1 of the 3 University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) staff kidnapped by Boko Haram back in July has in a letter called for the Federal Government to intensify the efforts to rescue them.

Yusuf, in the letter written to his wife, dated September 4, 2017, confirmed that he and his colleagues Yusuf Ibrahim and Haruna Dashe are still alive.

The handwritten letter was obtained by Sahara Reporters, who reported that the letter was written to his wife.

Yusuf, in the letter, said it’s been 42 days since he and his colleagues have been in captivity, and to be honest they never expected they’d be there for so long.

They believed the Federal Government would hastily negotiate and rescue them, he said, considering over 70 lives were lost in the process of their abduction.

Yusuf thanked the Association of Staff Union of Universities and its UNIMAID chapter for including their cause in the agenda of the present strike.

Yusuf also addressed President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki, reminding them that he and his colleagues were on an official assignment to acquire gravity and magnetic data, and soil geochemistry samples for hydrocarbon exploration.

He begged that the FG continue negotiating “with the present contact given to them by the University of Maiduguri as a means of contacting soldiers of Khalifa under the leadership of Abu Mus’ab Albarnawi.”

He sent greetings to his children, his new baby, and asked that his father name his new baby in his absence.

He added that his colleagues also sent their best wishes to their wives and children.
