Go girl! I know you’ll definitely go far.

I’m predicting Miss world, miss world top model or miss world Africa. I just know you won’t come home empty handed.

You definitely stand out! I’m rooting for you!

I’m rooting for her but her speech is weak and her diction could have been better. I honestly don’t see her winning anything.

So you want her to speak like Oyibo abi. Come on she is an igbo girl and probably schooling in one of the eastern university. Leave her alone we like her like that. She is coming home with something. People of the world na Waoo for una sha.

Yeah, just the way most Nigerians did not see Agbani winning anything until she did. Tall and extremely skinny was not considered pretty in Nigeria till Agbani won the Miss world title in 2001.

I re-watched the 2001 miss world paegeant on you tube recently. Agbani was definitely not the prettiest girl in the paegeant, her ‘diction’ as you put it wasn’t the very best, but she was tall, had grace and poise. Agbani got prettier with age too.

Fact is most times from Africa, conventional beauties don’t go so far. Our standards of beauty are different from Western standards and Miss world and Miss universe are Western paegeants.

Diction? What is wrong with her diction? Is she supposed to sound American??. She is igbo biko. A french man won’t bite his tongue to sound any less that he does. Ugochi baby SOAR!

True to that on the diction. Watched that of Viet Nam and although she has her native accent, the presentation and production of her video are better and Viet Nam is supposedly poorer than Nigeria.

For all of you complaining about her diction remember that the organisers of miss world and other foreign nationals who will be voting for her won’t know that. Don’t forget only we nigherians know English is our first language. Most times when a Nigerian speaks well people are more impressed than usual cos they believe that we shouldn’t speak so well to begin with. What i’m Trying to say is diction ain’t putting any extra water in her cup for miss world, content of speech however is what’s key.

You were wrong! Feels so good to say that now!

Diction not Accent. Know the difference!!!
for instance, Chimamanda still has a Nigeria accent but impeccable diction.

Then let Chimamanda come and represent us nah… Or better still come and do us the honors.

No one really cares about her diction here cos there are lots of other contestants who are struggling to speak very bad English and they still make the top 20….year in year out.

who diction help? She’s Miss Nigeria… Not Miss England.

She is an exceptionally beautiful girl and of course her accent is not her criteria for her winning or not winning. However, those who constantly watch introductory videos to Beauty Pageants would agree that her video is weak. Her speech didn’t come out as lucidly as I would expect. Even her spoken grammar is not entirely smooth. I would have expected her team to put her through thorough speech grooming before shooting the video. She needs to also speak with more assertion wheather anyone likes it or not. I am sure more training will come as time goes on. Wishing you all the best dear!!! Go make Nigeria proud!!!!

I love the way you criticized her constructively.
Let’s remember that Ugochi just won her crown less than 2 months ago… She definitely did not have the time to prepare.

She may not be the most articulate person, her video may not be the strongest but I do not agree that the video was weak. She is the tallest contestant, has grace and poise, is talented (she paints for real), she’s smart too.

Luckily for her, her video is better than the other contestants in her group (group 13….though Liberia and Malta are yet to release theirs). So with the sheer population of Nigerians, we can vote for her to reach the top 40.

My point is… This is a girl (imperfect as she is) who came out to represent her country and ours too, the least we can do is support her.

I’ve never met this girl, never knew her before she won mgbn, but I think it’s time Nigerians support their own. So let’s vote for her!

      Love and light.

She is GORGEOUS! However, she isn’t articulate and her diction needs some grooming.

Ugochi, if you ever read this, do not mind the people commenting on your speech, diction or whatever the heck some of them are yapping here.
You are absolutely GORGEOUS!! One of the most beautiful Nigerian queens I have seen in a long while. You have the beauty, the height, the carriage. You spoke very well and your video was anything but weak!!! Just know that with your beauty, jealous and bitter women will look for little or minute things to bitch about concerning you just to make themselves feel better. In their mind. this is what goes on “at least I speak better than her”. But that is a bunch of dog poop.
Ugochi, I repeat, you spoke very well. DO NOT EVER TRY TO CHANGE YOUR ACCENT AND START SPEAKING THROUGH THE NOSE LIKE THESE INSECURE NIGERIAN S . You attended FGGC Owerri and that tells me you are smart and can speak well. Use your natural accent, hold your head high, go out there and win that crown. You can actually do it. Agbani did it and so can you. Goodluck beautiful lady.
Ps. I don’t know you and don’t comment much here but going through some bitter comments disguised as wanting the best for you, I had to drop a comment.

Even with a bad diction or accent , her speech should be strong enough to convince anyone listening or watching her. Them no try for that video, it could have shown clips of other parts of Nigeria , our diversity and all not showing us Lagos only, The video is too focused on her and it does not even capture what she wants or is using her passion (she mentioned painting and modelling) for; in terms service to humanity / the environment.
I think that information is necessary to take the world stage.
Have you watched Miss Cote d’ivoire speak? She doesn’t speak english but her speech is strong.
Ugochi, stands out with her poise but lets see the confidence (modelling has not given that in my opinion) and the sky will be her starting point.

Going forward, the organizers could put the video on social media for people to critic or put a good team together to do that.
