Trump says he “took a pass” at being TIME’s Person of the Year, Magazine says it’s “incorrect”

US President Donald Trump tweeted he “took a pass” at being named TIME Magazine’s “Person of the Year” after he was called by them.

He wrote on his Twitter:

Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

The magazine has however denied his claims, saying it never comments on its choice until publication, which will be the 6th of December. They wrote:

TIME Magazine’s Chief Content Officer, Alan Murray, outrightly called Trump’s claim a lie, saying there isn’t a “speck of truth” in it. He wrote:

Trump is known to have a sort of obsession with being on the cover of TIME, with him making fake covers with himself on them, and having them hung in some of his properties.

In 2015, when TIME named German Chancellor Angela Merkel its person of the year, Trump complained on his Twitter that he probably will never be named the person of the year.

He was eventually named the person of the year in 2016 after defeating Hillary Clinton in the US presidential elections.
