Rochas Okorocha asking Imo Adults to pay ₦3,000 "Community Development Levy" - BellaNaija

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State

The Imo State government led by Governor Rochas Okorocha has instituted a new levy for adults and communities in his state.

Human rights activist Professor Chidi Odinkalu on Twitter, shared the photo of a letter sent to communities across the state, informing them of the new levy.

Every community is expected to provide the names of at least 2,000 “leviable adults” who pay the sum of ₦3,000 (three thousand Naira) each, known as the “Autonomous Community Adult Development Levy.”

The letter said that therefore, each “Autonomous Community” is to pay a minimum of ₦6,000,000 (six million Naira).

Salaries and allowances of the traditional rulers of communities that fail to pay will be suspended, the letter said.

Okorocha this man sha… instead of giving adults you are collecting from them. Where do you want them to get 3k from? Will it come from unpaid salaries? What ever happened to the federal government allocation given to your state? Now I see that your so called charity was a scam and an investment. If you had the kind of heart you were portraying during the time of your NGO you wouldn’t be saying some things. You have gotten and still want to get back a million times back of whatever you think you spent on goodwill/charity in your so called NGO. Wonder when African politicians will learn small sense

That’s Igbo communities for you…launching, launching, launching. Things fellow Nigerians get free, you don’t,
like free education abroad, student loans. Most schools, civic centers are built by communities. Scholarships given by communities.

Now he is asking for yet another levy.
From natives whose community roads built by Sam Mbakwe, are now death traps and have not been fixed since the 70s/ 80s when they were built?
